Okay, so I'm having a serious issue with my laptop.
I'm using Avast for virus protection, but I keep getting rerouted to a website that is for Video plans, etc. This happens all the time. I've run several scans and gotten ride of whatever it said to, but it's still happening. Also, my google search is screwed up. Again, I click on links, and get rerouted. Not only do I keep getting rerouted, but my connection seems really slow, and keeps timing out. Help?? Anyone know what I should do?? Thank you in advance. Try downloading Spybot search and destroy and a registry cleaner. Your virus protection may already have something to deal with spyware, but it doesn't hurt to try multiple ones.

I agree with Dunham those are both really good options. I am running avast as well and haven't experienced any of this. You can also pull up you task manager and see if anything is running that you aren't used to seeing. If you find something there you can always search your PC to see where it is and that might help track it down.

lol i accidentally hit the back button and lost a much better, more detailed version..
sounds to me like you probably have a rootkit. (detailed info). rootkits can get tricky so if you do not have any experience removing malware/spyware i suggest either finding a support forum where you can post scan logs and get direct help(huge list here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...ombofix#forums), or taking your computer somewhere to have it done by someone experienced. if you decide to do it yourself, try following this guide - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.html i ended up needing these tools: Hitman Pro - http://download.cnet.com/Hitman-Pro-...-10895604.html GMER - http://www.gmer.net/ Combofix (read the guide before downloading) - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix after scanning with these tools install and run Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Microsoft Security Essentials - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ and whatever you normally run to detect virus/spyware/malware we received a security update at work a few weeks back notifying our security team that the newest version of hitman pro removes most popular rootkits, so you can try running that by itself first to see if it removes your troubles without doing all of the extra work. |
