Hi Everyone!
On behalf of the Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA) and PMS Clan Inc. we wanted to offer all of our clan members a one year complementary membership into ECA. This is a regularly a $20 or $15 (Students and military) membership and it's usually only complementary to well known people in the gaming industry such as Adam Sessler, Tommy Tallarico, Amber Dalton, Will Wheaton, and TriXie (Her I"m a member banner" will be on the site soon). What is ECA? The ECA is non profit advocacy group for gamers. We're not a lobby group, just a grassroots advocacy group made up by a community of gamers. The mission of the ECA is to give gaming consumers a voice and ensure that state and local politicians hear their concerns and appreciate their demographic power. The ECA focuses its advocacy efforts on consumer rights, anti-games legislation, and a host of other public policy concerns like net neutrality, internet usage caps, and broadband for everyone. Besides that it's like AAA for gamers because ECA also provides community and affinity benefits to its members. For people in the gaming industry I usually say it's job security. The people who run ECA have been in the gaming industry for a long time and saw a gap and a need for representation on behalf of gamers. We spend so much for our hobby and have a huge say in this industry that we sometimes don't take advantage of it. ECA also owns the following properties you may be familiar with: GamePolitics.com, GameJobs.com, and GameCulture.com ...and participates in the following charities:
What do we get?
Once you log into your profile on the ECA site you can go to the benefits page to see the whole list. Note: This list is constantly updated and changing What do I do? You don't have to send any payment info. After a year and when you log into your ECA profile you should get a message to renew your membership. Just email me the following info at Daniela@TheECA.com. You can PM me here as well. Just put "PMS | H2O Clan ECA Member" in the subject title and I need:
Once the information is entered into our database you should get a confirmation message. If you don't after a week, just go to the main site and under "Member Login" there is a small link that says "Forgot Your Password?". Just enter the email you sent me and you should get a password to log into the site to change any profile info and see the benefits page. This offer is open to all US and all Canadian PMS and H2O Clan members 18 and up. This is for new ECA members only that have never signed up for ECA through PMS Clan, GamerChiX, at a gaming event, an ECA Chapter, on the ECA site, or any other way! After orientation please email or PM me the following information. How can I become more involved?
After joining the best way to get involved is by joining an existing ECA Chapter in your area run by local gamers or starting one of your own if there isn't a local ECA Chapter in your area or college. We're currently updating the chapter page so you can automatically join your local chapter, but for now check this drop down list or email me at Daniela@TheECA.com for more info about our chapters. It's a great way to meet new people, participate in gaming events, meet contacts in the gaming industry, make your voice heard and make a change, and it's awesome to put on the resume as well. ECA can help with all aspects of starting a chapter from sending you product to use for prizes and promotional materials to helping with getting you started with organization and recruitment, and even possible sponsorship of chapter related gaming events or LANs. It really doesn't take much to start and run a chapter it just really depends on how active you want to be. Some presidents are more active then others, but you really get one you put into it. Some just communicate and plan events or activities via Myspace/Facebook and email and hold gaming events on Xbox. Others hold events or meetings at LAN's or attend gaming events or town halls together.
Watch the Xbox Calender for the ECA Community Playdate March 1st. If you're interested in volunteering to host or just participating email me. More info TBA. We host weekly ECA Game Nights on Xbox and PC, those dates also TBA. We'll also be launching our GoCrossCampus game in January. Sign up for an account to play. It's fast and fun!
Learn more about our advocacy efforts and what you can do to help make your voice heard.
ECA has it's own forums and is on Facebook, Myspace and other social networks found here
TheECA.1up.com is posted weekly about different events I attend with the ECA as my views on different gaming issues and news. If you guys have any questions about membership that you can't find on the site or about chapters don't hesitate to PM or email me: Daniela@TheECA.com.
