Hi Everyone.
Does anyone know how you become a Pro gamer? Really want to become one.

You need to go to an event, and place high enough. Depending on the game, is what determines the minimum place required.
So... for example. Go to a MLG Event and have your team play one of the "Pro" games. Work your way up the tournament ladder, place in the Top of the tournament. So for Halo, I'm not sure but I think its Top 8? And... that is out of about 200+ teams. It is very difficult to become a pro, partially because you have to be good and have a good team. It takes a lot of dedication, since you need to go out to events (pay for flights, staying at a hotel, food, paying to register your team, etc). Most times people get sponsors to pay theses fee's, but usually you need to already be recognized as a Pro Gamer in order to obtain sponsors. Every game has a different Top "X" to be considered "Pro." They even have "Semi-Pro" for those that place in another grouping. I think Top 12 or Top 16 for Halo. I'm not sure if that's the only way, but I'm pretty sure that is the basis of becoming a "Pro." There could be other ways, or you can join other tournaments such as WCG.

It all depends on where you go. The Championship Gaming Series holds combines every year and they do a draft and if you're selected, you become a pro gamer through one of the 6 American teams (games: CSS, FIFA, Forza, and DoA).
There is also the MLG (Halo, GoW, WoW, RSV2) and you have to place high enough in their double-elimination tournament. I'm not sure what placing WoW has for pro, but I know that the top 16 in Halo 3 are pro, while the top 32 are semi-pro. Top 8 are pro for Gears of War and Rainbow Six, while top 16 is semi-pro. Mind you, for some games, skill is a must, but for others like Gears of War, teamwork and communication matter more than individual skill. I've heard that individually, the pro players from Infinity aren't all that amazing. It's their teamwork and their communication. Practice as much as you can, but not so much that it's all you're doing. Last edited by Zeppelin; 10-12-2008 at 05:22 PM. |

Back when Final Boss (halo) was untouchable they averaged 4 hours a day according to several interviews (with the exception of strongside who was known to play for 18 hours straight)... I did that over the summer between work and school. I never got close enough to be a top tier gamer. I think in addition to the practice you have to have a knack for it before even starting the game. No matter how hard you practice or how long you practice, its no guarantee. Though, its a start.

with you man. Some people are just born with it. You can't teach vision or reflexes these are some of the assets you need to become "Pro". Then you gotta have the experience and the team to back your play style up. Then finally you gotta practice your strats with them. What more can I add? Ohhh and I don't really think there are any MLG PS3 games. I don't know about CGS though....but yea move to the 360 if you wanna become "Pro". Since most gaming competitions hold their games on the 360. Just don't talk to the players on XBL. Urgh worst guys ever >.<
