Attention all Lez Bee Anns!

Maybe I am over reacting; someone help me out here... but I was just posting in Xanadu's thread about the NH primaries. I was saying that as a lez bee ann; gay marriage is a very important issue that I consider when choosing who to vote for.

Now you might be wondering why I keep spelling lez bee ann that way......

Well here's the shocker, the administrators of this site have deemed that word to be somehow innappropriate, and the auto censor replaces it with the word "girl."

Maybe I am over reacting, but I REALLY don't know how to NOT be offended by that! It's not a foul word. It's not a distasteful word. It's a personal identity like "african american" or "southerner." If one considers that word to be foul and distasteful, they must also consider me and every other lez bee ann in this clan, or in this forum community, to be foul and distasteful.

I've asked for a public explanation for this in the original thread where I commented, and I am asking again. Please explain to us all why this word, our personal identity, has been deemed innappropriate.

i agree...that's ridiculous! i don't consider myself one, nor ever have, but if the word "bisexual" was filtered too i'd be even more upset!!!!

Thanks. It really is upsetting because I know that the word filters are not set by some random hosting service. It is set by our fellow clanmates. If the explanation for this somehow includes "protecting the children" that will be extremely offensive because the only lesson the children could learn by censoring the word lez bee ann is that if the word itself is bad and to be avoided, than ergo actual lez bee anns are bad and to be avoided.

It might be because at some point someone was using the word in an inappropriate way. Thus causing the admins to filter it in order to prevent it from happening again.

To be honest I find most of the word filters are ridiculous. I mean you hear the word @ss all the time on TV (even turning primetime when there's kiddies around) and no one has a problem with it, yet for some reason I can't say the word ass on the forums.

I realize the need to protect members and all that jazz, but there's protection and then there's over protection. Why do members need protection from words they use themselves probably in every day life or in this case words that are who they are?

It has been removed. We use a word filter from a big list of words from a censor site.

And "ass" does not have any commonly used positive meaning in the dictionary.
