Well lets start this off. He did what now to get arrested? Oh yeah, freedom of speech. When did he start swearing and going out of control? Oh yeah after he was getting arrested. Why did he resist arrest? Oh yeah because he was doing what he came their for which was an answer. BTW that was clearly going to be given to him. Regardless of what he did, he had no weapon and i DOUBT he hit a cop with 6 of them there watching or holding him down. So what exactly did he do to deserve to get tasered? Resisted arrest? And why did he get arrested again? Thats my whole statement of being an idiot for thinking its necessary. I can understand if he actually did something wrong. But he didn't. Meaning, its unnecessary. No he didnt do anything wrong but you also got to see it like this.
The cops all have procedure for these events. They are their to protect John Kerry. When it was certain that this guy was there to verbally attack him and not just cut to the question the police felt the need to "move him along" or so to say. But then when things dont go along to procedure they dont always go so smoothly. He wasnt being arresated, he was being escorted away. The guy wasnt really resisting arrest, he was resisting being escorted from the premesis. One can argue that it's a freedom of speech issue, but there are also countless ways to counter that argue. Public property, state property. This and that. Thats why this topic is so talked about. there is no simple answer to who is at fault here. I can keep going on and on buddy, but I have to get back to my work. lol |

Freedom of Speech isn't why he was arrested (The whole Bush Theory is a conspiracy) it was because he was causing a scene. John Kerry was going to answer his questions, he even started to. He even felt bad that it happened. The cops at these gatherings have to be extremely cautious and like it was said before they have strict rules to abide by if someone gets out of hand. The did what they had to do by what means they had necessary. (Being tased is a lot better then being shot, beat up, etc.) Now onto him being tasered. He put on quite a nifty show. When you are tased (speaking from watching quite a few videos on it and even speaking with my dad and a friend who is a cop) you just kinda go numb all over. Watch the video. It seems as though he had it quite easy off. If he had really gotten tased he would have been limp and numb for at least 5 or more seconds. Go watch some videos then watch the tasing on him a few times. Cameras are rolling, action! You are still arguing the point that a person can resist arrest. When someone asks you to do something do you continuously wiggle and cuss and not listen to directions? If you did that to your parents when you were younger you'd prob have got a nice walloping and even if not throwing a hissy fit in public if I had did that because I didn't get what I wanted...Whew! Fanny tanning time! People are saying about the 6 people and they couldn't restrain him. Let me just say this. If your adrenaline is going you'd be very surprised at what you can do. Example: I have a fear of heights but when there is a fire or practice burn my adrenaline kicks in and I can go up on a 105ft high ladder on the Ladder Truck at work. I also mind you have quite a few extra pounds on me with the scba and bulky gear and boots. I am not saying you become hulk but your mindset is different and your body reacts differently to things. There is no conspiracy theory here. There is no real cause behind all of it. There is no infringement on free speech. With the people that I saw smiling in the crowd when it happened it looks like they kinda saw it coming or at least thought "What a moron!" You can't just resist arrest period. Go outside and talk rude to someone, cuss, and throw a hissy fit and disturb the peace. See what happens to you when you resist arrest and start being a wiggle worm and being rude. Like I said before it probably would have taken him 10 seconds or less to not be in that position. 1) Don't be an ass to your elders and just plain ole respect. 2) Don't throw a hissy fit when you are around a political official that has secret agents that would have not been so nicely if he went any closer to the stage. 3) Apologize after you realize you put your foot up your butt and acted like a booboohead trying to get attention. 4) Sit the funk down and let the guy answer your questions. 5) Don't resist arrest. Cooperate!!!!!! That's all it would have taken and maybe even just #5! He chose a different path, lesson learned by him hopefully but then again he loved the camera so maybe no lesson learned. You can't tell me you can go around yelling at people and being rude and not except some recourse of action taken against you? All they would have done was escort him out. He could have said "I will sit down and listen to the responses. I am sorry for acting like a nincompoop and making a complete butt out of myself." like I said above. He chose the path that lead to him being arrested and spending a night in jail. That's pretty lucky for what he did. As for the conspiracy theories. I take them with a grain of salt. They are just that conspiracy theories. There is only so much "Freedom of Speech!" stuff that can be said. Last edited by PMS Kassi; 09-19-2007 at 09:47 PM. |

If you notice, He only spoke for 31 seconds before someone tried to stop him. In those 31 seconds all he does is thank Mr. Kerry for his time and for answering questions, and then talks about a book that says Kerry won the 2004 election. I see no grounds for stopping someone there. I actually see nothing wrong with anything he said. The only thing I see wrong with what he did is the tone he took, but then again I'd probably take that tone too if people kept trying to stop me for no reason. Then as the cops are trying to drag him out Kerry says "I'm going to answer those because they are important questions" (or something to that effect). I think at that point if I was one of the cops I would have thought "Oh he wasn't a disturbace. Maybe we should let him go now." I would think that if he was being such a disturbance Kerry wouldn't have even bothered trying to answer his question let alone mention that they were important questions.

I think that when you fail to follow the directions of an officer, you are putting yourself at risk. Follow their directions, and if they are wrong, fight it out later through legal channels. That being said, if six officers who are professionally trained on how to subdue someone, can't manage to subdue one college kid without using a weapon; they seriously need to look into another career because they are obviously not qualified for law enforcement.

I know a few people who have resisted arrest before (my dad included). I dont know anyone who has been tasered though so.....? My whole point is the police being unnecessary. Like i said, if he WAS a threat to Kerry, then they pull out the weapons. But, he WASN'T a threat. Thats EXACTLY where they went wrong. Im pretty sure with someone as important as Kerry there, they need to go to the extreme and the extreme BTW, were those 6 cops. They aren't supposed to go over the top and taser him as well. If this case was "well the cops were doing their job" then we wouldn't be sitting here discussing what had happened, now would we? I dont understand why you stick so much onto to "the crowd was smiling". That has nothing to do with how the crowd feels. You say watch some videos? Go read some more. Deaths can happen because of something so simple like a taser. I say simple because thats how you make it seem. This isn't some Little spankin you get from your parents because you didn't do something you were told to do. If you haven't found that out already. Sure there is punishment. But not harsh punishment. Regardless if he was resisting arrest or not. My final statement, is to wait to see what happens and maybe laugh it off if the story's ive been hearing are true. I guess this guy has done multiple things just to get on camera and to get attention. But my argument stands till proven. |

If the dude was that much of a threat, then why wasn't Kerry lead out of the building? Kerry wasn't lead out of the building for his own protection because he wasn't in danger. The dude was tasered because he was annoyed that they wouldn't let him ask his question, and that showed in his voice. Basically he was tasered because of something they caused.

That is very true. If the boy had had some kind of heart problem, a simple tasing could well have been fatal. Yeah... that would have been a rare and odd coincidence, but certainly not out of the realm of possibility. When I was in high school, all those many years ago, a good friend of mine died running track one day. He was 16 and had an unknown heart condition. Use of weapons, even one as "harmless" as a taser should be the very, very last resort. No question the boy was out of line, but if they couldn't handle the situation without using a weapon, they don't deserve to wear a badge.

The whole death thing is like saying "Don't ride airplanes you may die!" It happens! I could walk across the street and be hit by a car. Or I could act like a retard resist arrest and get tasered. I think I have more common sense to not resist arrest and not have that chance of being shocked happen. He got his 15 minutes of air time that's what he wanted. He was raising his voice and too worried about being killed by the government to prob even shut his trap for a moment and let the police escort him out.
Still really don't see how poeple keep arguing the "I can resist arrest and get away with it!" Heck I will say it over and over. He did it as a show. "Ow Ow Ow Ow" is definately not the first thing most people say when they are being tasered. He's a baby, he got his 15 minutes of air time. Next person who wants his 15 minutes of fame is probably already thinking up of something better then what he did. *shrug* |

Not one time did anyone say it was ok to resist arrest and he should of gotten away with it. We were saying it was too harsh for ONLY resisting arrest when he shouldnt of been escorted or arrested to begin with.
Its not exactly the same thing as riding a plane and whatnot. Those are called accidents. Getting tasered when he could of been pinned down by ONE more person and dying from it, is no accident. Big difference. LIke ive stated before. I stand with my arugment unitl there is proof he just wanted to get on tv and get attention. |

What I've been arguing is the fact that they even tried to arrest him to begin with. If you got the chance to get up and ask someone like Kerry some questions, and someone tried to stop you not even 20 seconds after you started talking, you'd be pretty annoyed too and raise your voice. He spoke exactly 31 seconds before someone tired to stop him and a lot of that time was spent thanking Kerry for being there. As you say, they tried to arrest him for raising his voice, but he only raised his voice because he was provoked. He also asked for an explanation as to why he was being dragged out, but was offered none. I'm also pretty sure you'd also be yelling "What? I'm getting arrested? I didn't do anything wrong! Why are you arresting me?!?!" too. The answer to why he was yelling only when people were around is simple. What's the point in yelling for help when there's no one around to answer your call? The simple solution to this problem was not to arrest him to begin with. He did nothing wrong. Kerry even wanted to answer the questions he had asked. Oh and about the taser thing. It was unnecessary. I'll tell you a story which should explain why. When I was in 11th grade some police officers came to our school to talk to us about drunk driving and stuff. Prom was around the corner, so I guess it was some sort of preemptive thing. Anyways they demonstrated how a brethalizer test is given. Some students volunteered to take the test to show exactly how it works. They explained that chewing gun and that sort of thing won't fool the machine. They also talked about other road side tests they administer. They then showed up how to act and how not to act when you get pulled over. On the way into the auditorium we passed the cops and I made a funny "crap the cops! Hide the weed!" comment, which made me the guinea pig for this demonstration. I sat on stage in my imaginary car while the cops walked up and asked me to roll down my imaginary window. First time around I did everything the cop instructed me to. Kept my hands on the wheel, asked for permission to get my papers out of the glove box, etc. Everything went smoothly. Then is was take two. I was to disobey the cop. When asked to roll down my window I refused with some pretty colorful language (everyone thought it was pretty funny). I was asked a second time, and refused again. At that moment I was ripped from the car by my arm and flung to the ground. On the way down the only thing I managed to say was "What the h3ll? My door was locked!" (that was pretty funny too) before I slammed into the cold hard floor. It's at that moment I felt a heavy pressure on my upper back which held me in place as my arms were forced behind my back by what I assume was the second cop and cuffs placed around my wrists. My friend Nick didn't think I resisted enough, and asked if he could be the volunteer for one of the next groups coming in. He put up much more of a fight, which ended the same. He was arrested and then released because he had to get back to English class. There's was a difference though. He's 6'2 and weighs 250LBS, and I don't. The moral of the story: If 2 cops could subdue a 6'2 250LBS dude without the use of clubs or tasers, then I'm pretty sure 6 cops could have done the same with that scrawny dude.

I'm still wondering...what did he do to deserve to be arrested and tasered???
I know the answer is still nothing. Stupid police officers. What happened to the freedom of speech? And why are we fighting for freedom from terrorism when we don't have the freedoms we are automatically supposed to receive due to the bill of rights? Why does someone get arrested for speaking his mind? I hate how this country is run...so much corruption.

I'm debating on if I'm actually going to read most of this, but before I do I just have to say that WOW, this topic got TL;DR QUCKLY.
Time to flip a coin and see if I'm actually going to read it or not. It landed heads. >_< Ok, serious time now. Calling it an accident is almost pointless because these officers have been specifically trained to know when these situations are a necessity and when they are not. Not only was the guy restrained, but he was also dragged away from the location where the mic was at. If he broke loose and ran in a raging fury towards Kerry or something, I could understand the need for that force. However, he was already down on the ground, and even after he had been there for awhile, he still got a nice shocking reminder that police brutality is still an issue. As far as the whole freedom of speech and rights being taken away thing goes, all I have to say is if a revolution ever starts up and it's a just cause and I agree with their motions, chances are you can count me in. I've personally had it with this irony that we call Democracy that has been going on in this country for YEARS now. If you take a good look at the way things are going here, it's been a downward spiral for a long, long, loooong time. When Osama Bin Laden recognizes that the American people do not want the military in the Middle East but the American government doesn't bother listening, that's bad. When the political party that opposed for so long the troops even going in there in the first place, now have even have THEIR hands in the whole ordeal, that's bad. No socialized medicine, the freedom that many people have risked their lives protecting (my father being one of them) or have died protecting is being taken away, a law system that is no longer swift and just, but corrupt and prolonged, a dieing quality in our products, a disgrace of a school system, corporations and lobbyists having more sayso than the entire general public... ...the list goes on. Now I'm not a conspiracy theorist. Nothing that I'm saying is anywhere short of the truth. In fact, it's pretty obvious. America has turned to crap, and our image has been ruined. We are a farce to the world. If I'm not mistaken, there's a document that was written a long time ago back in 1776 that would say that we are on pins and needles of needing a nice change of picture around here. Oh yea that's right... It's the Declaration of Independence. Quote:

I guess all the times that I said before in response to your posts that you shouldn't be able to resist arrest. Even though you do somewhat say that it should be okay then randomly say you never said anything on those lines. I won't quote but you can go back and read your posts and my responses all over again. Which you also stated that your dad did, but you didn't say what his punishment was either for doing so, though you said he didn't get tasered. It's a case by case basis. The guy was a booboohead got his 15 minutes of fame. I will say it again. I laugh at it the whole time maybe it's because people there are actually laughing too. People read too much into the crap and decide to "stir the pot".
I still don't see anyone actually pointing out anything obvious of why he shouldn't have been placed under arrest. Getting rowdy at a gathering with someone that is important isn't being the brightest crayon in the box. Yes he was all nice at first but then he got loud and crap. It's like someone said earlier in the posts. He should have just let them escort him out, apologize, and walk away and then ask if he could go hear the responses to his questions..politely. He had no common courtesy so why should they extend it? Let's also remember the fact that yes we are under even more watchful eyes in our actions but I feel a bit safer knowing that. Heck I get the random search at the airport pretty much every time I go. I don't pitch a fit. Then again that will spark up more controversy. LOL. Lose lose situation. Seems like this is a one sided discussion and me on the other side. Don't mind but think it's funny that I am the only one that sticks up for our peeps in uniform. Must be a buncha law breakers around here..*giggles* Oooo here is a conspiracy theory for you. Maybe he use to date John Kerry and was upset that he didn't return his calls? *snicker* P.S. Not to burst your bubble but it's NORTH America and SOUTH America. Not just "America". =o) P.S. 2 Blame Canada..only thing they have there that's better is 1) More snow. 2) Health care. 3) More Mooses!) 4) More trees. 5) Being able to say eh? and not get called a canadian.. 6) More Snow! Yeah you are right it was different situation. He got arrested for drunk driving btw. I will stick up for anyone who is in the right. Being police or just a random person. The police in this situation were definatly in the wrong. Like someone said above, police are human, they make mistakes. Its obvous that it was a mistake and it wasnt right. To stun someone when you already have them pinned down. I mean cmon. I dont see myself sticking up for anyone who would do that.
BTW, we are reading text and we have no expression so its really hard to understand exactly what someone is trying to say. So yes, maybe in previous posts of mine it look as though i was saying it was right by not actually saying it. "It" meaning that its alright to resist arrest. But i dont feel that way at all. |
