Hi Ladies!

WE DID IT!!!!

September 2nd,

I am happy to be able to confirm that female marines are playable in competitive multiplayer as well as co-op, complete with customization elements. This is something the team has been planning and working on for quite some time, and that work is finally at the point where we can confirm it will indeed ship with the game when it releases on February 12, 2013.

In the aliens universe, I don't think there was ever a female marine. Ripley was just a miner.

Vasquez (the most iconic and notable)
Ferro
Dietrich

*In universe*, the Colonial Marines are about equality, there's supposedly roughly the same amount of females enlisted as there are men

Signed and supported! I can't believe that Gearbox would disregard a core majority of the Alien franchise by denying the option of playable female characters. It makes no sense to me. I'll do some more reading and keep abreast of this from now on.

Did you see Aliens, which the game is based off of? There were two primary ones, the standout of which was Vasquez... Not to mention that, while not a marine, Ripley was the hero of the film. It doesn't really seem justified to not have a playable female marine.

No, THANK YOU. I didn't even know about this and ALIENS is my favorite film of all time. I was so looking forward to the game. I would have actually been heartbroken without the option to roll like Ripley in the game!

I went there and read the article then made the mistake of reading the comments. By the Gods the dismissive misogynistic attitude of most of the male comments is not only disgusting but makes me really, really sad. It also pisses me off.

It also makes me wonder if any of them have actually watched Aliens or, going one further, read any of the literature based on the movies. Do they not understand that the canon in which this game is being drafted from not only has stepped passed the whole 'women have no place on the battlefield/women should stay home and be baby makers and take care of the men' but have women on equal footing and respect with the men.

I just do not understand!
