Default ESPN.COM picks up MLG

Looks like MLG is getting some bigger help. If you visit espn.com you'll already find a large section full of some nice info under the video gaming tab, and not just stuff on MLG, but also game reviews and more.

Official MLG announcement:

man some cool kid must have told you this news.

but this is great news for MLG and competitive gaming all together. ESPN has ran many shows on special sports in the recent years. Paintball being one they have shown multi times.... Maybe they can stop showing poker so much.

I Still don't think ESPN should be involved, IMO Gaming isn't a sport.

It's important because while it's not "mainstream" sports right now, this is a way to get the word out! It's very good in general for the competitive gaming scene and will bring more light to it

And really it's all in your definition of a sport. I consider something that's spectator and involves competition with prizes (cash) is a sport. I mean, they show poker tournaments and I don't think that's a sport

To LOST: hehe I posted it first thou

Just like any sport, gaming takes practice if you want to be good. You cant just walk in not having played in your life and expect to be competitive.

That's awesome. I think it's particularly good because gaming IS a lot more mainstream than people think. I was reading some statistics somewhere that the gaming industry is making more money right now than the movie & music industry combined. That could be crap though, I'm not sure.

Cool Re: ESPN.COM picks up MLG

I am pretty giddy about the news. I think that this is a huge step for mlg. and gaming is totally a sport. A lot of the competitors train not only on the console but a good portion workout together as a team. I read an article about TSquared he does that I believe, I will try to find the article.

I can't wait for the day, when Dan Patrick on Sportscenter goes over a match played in MLG.

I don't think I will be able to control my laughter at those guys trying to give a play by play of it.
(i.e. "Look at the way he just pwns those noobs. That's got to hurt")

When that happens, I can die a happy man!

Its awesome for MLG but bad for clans.

This is the next step in gaming being more of a sport. In sports you have one major league that is basically the sport. We are heading in the direction the MLG and CGS will be the only mjaor circuits left as they use the cut throat policies of other major sports, because they work.

But unfortunetly bad for clans like us as your clan afiliation is stripped in both organizations. Soon all major pro gamers will be property of the major leagues.

Your exactly right and thats why I have always said if you are making a clan make sure it is a camp for pro players and remember some will get picked up by these major leagues. So clans really have to have there P & Qs in order. Also I believe clans like us have nothing to worry about because we have a community base or shall I say corner stone. I guess if any of us wanna go Pro to take the time out to learn what your division in PMS/H2O is teaching you so you can compete on the pro level. this would be the time for clans to reorganize and commit to making the best gamers available. We have to get re- involved so we the gamer have a say in our sport. But this is awesome that the television market is going to dominate or video games. If directtv or comcast get more subscriptions the more gaming television you will see and more Tsquares and ogre bros for you to keep track of like barry bonds and all other atheles. Also the more innovative camera controls in games you get the more games will be added to circuits. Lets just hope Clans like PMS/H2O get recognized for bringing the best gamers to the pro circuit. I believe PMS/H2O are fine in this field. BEST GIRLS AND GUY GAMERS ANYWHERE ON THE FACE OF THIS EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, exactly right Snake!

On a different subject I think gaming is not a sport and the word "cyberathlete" is kinda insulting to real athletes. I look at competitive gaming as entertainment, not a sport. But yeah it would be nice to see some gaming tourneys on tv stations. Although they are kinda boring if you're not cheering for a person or group in particular. lol

I'm excited... but there will definitely be a lot of critics. Most of my friends make fun of me so much... telling me that it's "just a video game" and that MLG is ridiculous and stuff like that. People just don't understand it as a competitive sport. Hopefully... this'll help people get into it. =]
