I've been in the hospital since Friday night/Saturday morning with my dad. He's been through 3 different hospitals with 4 different hospital trips in and out of the emergency and being admitted.

My dad has a leaky valve in his heart. There's mucus and other fluid in his lungs. Chest pain. Chronic coughing. He's also on Coumadin (Warfarin), some beta blockers and other stuff.

I hate the fact that they let my dad go the same day he had catherization done on Monday. He was the 1% of people who ended up bleeding after the 6 hours of "healing." They kept him for another 3 hours and let him go. Saying he was ok. He ended up in the emergency the following morning. In a shitty hospital. Who had discharged him even when he wasn't feeling better yet.

I remember asking the nurse if it was ok for him to stay over night in the hospital where he had the catherization done until he feels that he has recovered. But they sent him off saying he would be fine.

He's not. And I feel as if it's my fault. I could of said something, I could of insisted a little more.

I'm at my aunt's house, I stayed the night last night. Her house is closer to the hospital where my dad is now.

How could the other hospital discharge him? He ended up in the emergency for the third time. I brought him from that bad hospital straight to the one he is in now. He was in bad condition when we first got there. But, with each hour that we were there, he began to show us he was feeling a little more better.

I wish there was something I could do. I don't think it's right that everything was supposed to be fine according to the doctor and nurses when he just ends up back in the hospital, in the emergency. More payments, more $1500 for ambulance rides, more $225 per day at the hospital even with insurance and medicare. More everything.

Ridiculous.

There's too many things I want to say. I just can't think straight. Because I know there's a lot more to the story than I wrote.

My dad says he probably isn't getting better because he's been going through so many Doctors, Nurses and Hospitals. Each person says there's something else wrong with him. They keep giving him different medication. They keep doing ultra sounds, xrays, tests, whatever. It's draining and stressful. To me and especially to him.

I want to become a Registered Nurse/Nurse Practitioner. And I'm going to. I've wanted to do so for so long, and I know now that I needed a push. This was my push. I can't let this happen to someone else. It's not right.

My twitter has more information about what's going on, and I try to update it as much as I can. Most of the tweets involving my dad are to @H2OMexican if you want to read them. There's just more info on twitter because I tweet as things come up when I get the time to.

Your best bet is to get a specialist to look at your dad. Not just a phisician or the doctors at the hospital they see so many people that they dont have the time to spend with one patient. You need someone who specializes in heart patients Cardioligist I believe is the term. If he is still in the hospital you can ask the nurses or his phisician for a referral.

Generally the nurses wont be able to technicaly refer a docotor but they can tell you who you options are.

I dont know if this helped or not and I dont know what all is going on with him so if there are other things I would look into haveing a specialist in that type of medicine look at him as well.

Hey Buckeye, yeah he's seeing a cardiologist. And still all this. The cardiologist says he is going to need open heart surgery because when they fix his leaky valve it will fix everything else. Hopefully everything goes right. But my dad does have a high risk of a lot of things happening while under the knife.

Hi there. I'm just a passerby, and seen this blog post, and it hit home with me. I didn't see how old this post was before I registered, and it appears that im too late to offer any advice on the situation. On the other hand, had I seen this post when you posted it, i would have been too early.

Anyway, I had an Aortic Valve Replacement on January 12, 2010, at the age of 26, and was passing by to offer and advice on what to expect, and how you could help if your father did need a valve replacement. Since I'm too late for that, I hope all is well, and I must ask if everything got resolved?

Omg!!! This makes me so sad.. In a happy way! Because I'm actually doing it a year later I'm actually becoming a nurse!!!! Wow. This is amazing.

MegaJohn, now I'm late with MY reply! I'm so sorry. I hope you will come back and read this. My dad has been doing fine! 3 months after the surgery he was fully up to speed. They took him off coumadin! Which is a great! He exercises every day for a hour and he is a completely different person! But, recently he started to get a weird feeling. He went to his cardiologist yesterday and they hooked him up to a 24 hour EKG. We got the results today and they said his valve is inflamed now and his heart rate is very unstable. it would go to 50 then straight to 120 then back down. We're going to find out more soon. Hopefully it's just an episode and will subside! My dad is a very strong person. I know he can get through this. He can get through anything.

How are you?! I'm hoping you're doing fantastic!!! Hopefully you get this because I'll be checking it until you do! Which may be forever. Lol
