Anyone have DirecTV? If so can you explain what the 'On Demand' set up is like for it? And what channels they have available On Demand? I am thinking of switching because right now I am paying around 250 dollars a month for Comcast Digital Cable with Internet.

$250 a month? You must have every channel and a business connection. Sounds like you're getting screwed. I have dishnetwork ($40 a month) and cable internet ($50 a month). There has to be something way cheaper out there.

I live in New York and have Verizon phone service which allows me to "package" together DSL, Direct TV and unlimited long distance all in one. Without premium channels it is around $150 a month for all three. They also offer a special cellphone package with it also. I heard about it through Verizon. They can't sollicit you but when you call about services then they can offer everything! Good Luck!

I have TimeWarner(now purchased by Comcast), with net speeds of 15Mb/s down and 368Kb/s up, Digital Cable with 1 TiVO box and 2 other digital boxes, and Showtime & HBO, as well as On Demand. I pay $130/month. I'm about to cut out TiVO, as TiVO with Cable is $20/month, whereas on DirecTV like I last had it was only $5/month.

That's a great download speed and a CRAPPY upload speed. Why such a disparity? I only have 6mg down but 1mg up. If you want to host games, a good upload speed is crucial. XBox games are *supposed* to be playable with a host upload speed of 256kb's to get Live certified, but honestly most games would chug to a stop with speeds like that.

Actually, not true. When I was on DSL @ 1.5Mb/s down and 256Kb/s up I could host 10man servers for pretty much any game just fine with peoples pings staying at a decent rate, not as good as a dedicated server of course, but decent enough to play at. Would I mind FiOS's 15Mb/s down and 2Mb/s up, I'd love it :P

And.. I dunno, I was paying for 5Mb/s down and 368Kb/s up, then all of a sudden last month the speed was upped to 15Mb/s down, and it wasn't just me either checking the speed tests. The download speeds actually add up as well, I now download @ over 1600Kb/s.

But yea, I'm not the biggest for hosting servers, so the upstream isn't of the most importance to me.

Comcast is one of the worst...we've never had so much trouble with a cable company.

If FIOS is available in your area, I highly recommend it, fast internet, good phone, and awesome TV, and my dad says its a lot cheaper then it used to be for all three services.

Games like GOW would be pretty much unplayable on a 256K up host.

I'm just wondering why they would pair up such a weak upload with such a strong download is all.

Yea, I was wondering that too. I recently got in contact with Comcast. Seems they changed and upped a few things from my original provider.

Down is now 6Mb/s and up is still 368Kb/s. However, something called PowerBoost gives it 12Mb/s+ for a while on the downloads, halfway through the download they said.

If I want the 768Kb/s up I have to pay $10 extra a month <_< Grrr... Why can't FiOS be here >_<

And yes, it is true Unique, Gears of War would probably demand a decently sized 500Kb/s or so. However, again, it depends on server size. Cmon, I can host a 1v1 :P
