Favorite quote:
"Please understand that I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I don't think that there are any aliens at Area 51. I know that AIDS was not created in a secret government lab, I believe that men really landed on the moon, and I am 100% certain that Sasquatch shot JFK with the help of the Loch Ness monster. But something clearly isn't right here. The government and the media just can't go around making this stuff up, right?"
I remember reading this article a while back, and really I believe the error on the politicians part is not looking at statistics and instead relying on sensationalist news stories like the "men kills so and so over xbox" thing. Even the association was loose in that crime, but it forever links violent video games to violent crimes. That would be like linking driving a car to violent crimes because someone got hurt while in a dispute about who should pay for gas.
Makes you wonder how politicians even support their argument other than by emotion *shrug*

So very true- the killer of nations and the innocent is ignorance and misinformation :(
Anyway we already knew this, just glad more people in the position to spread the word are doing so

I agree with you guys.
Some months ago, there was this young guy in Antwerp who killed a child, a woman and if I remember well, he also killed/wounded a man.
In the beginning, he assumed that he was a racist (all the victims were foreigners) etc, but racism is a crime. I am sure he couldn't get out easily with such arguments.
And it is the that the lawyers came (I come from a family of lawyers. I know how it goes.)... Suddenly, GTA was the cause of his crimes, his inspiration.
There is A LOT going on behind the scenes. Now that ex-Mrs. Clinton is running for pres (my expectations of having a woman governing the USA are kind of mixed now), there will be a lot more going. Abortion doesn't create as much polemic as it used to, so it seems that video games are (good) substitutes at the moment.
Everything always circles back to columbine about it too, it sucks. Most of us play video games, and we are just fine. People just have a issue or something in their life, and find w/e as a way to solve it. Killing is an outlet for them.

i can relate to that easily! teachers, super intendants, and counselors all agree that video games to cause violence amoung students and can lead to either shootings, school bombings, or other mishaps. i mean i'll admit that i do know some guys that do sound like they have some screws loose up there but i never would expect them to blow up the school, but then agian there are others that can easily crack under a small amount of pressure and things like columbine happen.
Another example is that there was recently a school shooting in Tacoma, WA. (about an hour from where i live) and it really shook everyone, we never knew that there could even be school shootings up here because there never seems to be a point to.....

Its 2 bad since video games will always be attacked it seems even a age limit cant stop things since muumys and daddies will go out and by their underaged child summet like manhunt or GTA or wotever....everyone is responsible for ther own actions. theres a big gap between reality and makebelieve but as videogames become more graphic more sick and violant it will allways be blamed....but then if thats true shouldnt other industrys suffer too? such as the film industy or even music now with all this Gangstar rap etc people are trying to copy their idols which causes trouble..
so i could start going on about jackass or dirtysanchez THESE are a bad influence
But it will always seem that videogames will take the fall before anything else...

But there is one important thing you missd, we have better means to stop violence and kids are scared of getting their buts whipped, violent video games do cause violence in kids its just that kids get beat when they misbehave, trust me I should know from personal experience, I did vandalism many times and I got chased by cops twice, I have violent attitude only when I'm irritated and sometimes just tapping me on the shoulder I'm prepared to hit you, but if I did get in trouble for being violent and they see how many games I have played they will immediately try to blame it on violent video games, only one problem with that, I can blame it on reason of insanity because I am insane. Not to mention kids in school get bullied a lot so its also possible they did that because of the anger build up and they have nowhere to release it, thankfully some schools have punching bags that kids can let their steam off, I use it when I'm irritated.

Ok so the rest of it is with a serious tone I take it, but.... this is sarcasm right?
"Please understand that I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I don't think that there are any aliens at Area 51. Its the author trying to evoke some humor into his piece, not sarcasm - the rest of the article isn't a joke at all, and the goal was to make people laugh and realize the absurdity of the situation. Not sarcasm, different thing ;)
I do it all the time with whatever I write, and I'm not terribly sarcastic...ok...well sometimes i am but still thats a diff story.

just making sure, I myself try not to use sarcasm in cases where my tone can't be heard, confuses the hell out of people
