I had to say, living here in Grand Rapids Michigan I never thought I be watching history unfold. I got home from school (ITT-Tech, Grand Rapids) in time to watch a few F-15s do a few tricks before forming up for the Missing Man formation. I watch them come together, leader in front (also the one that that plays the Missing Man at the end) and head to GR. They formed up real fast at the last 30 seconds before you seen them on TV. It had to be hard to do for those 21 fighters to pull that one off. He was doing some tick until I notice he was doing a final practice before he does the Missing Man maneuver.
I may be 10 minutes away from were Ford was laid to rest. The smoke from the 21 cannon salute you can see very well with the sunset. I had to say it was a perfect end to a American story of a beloved President. At the moment its unclear how many shown up to say there final good byes. Numbers are between 45,000 - 55,000 people (saying from Wood TV 8 news).
At first, I thought those F-15s was the new F-22 Raptor that is currently replacing them. But, when they started to move into formation I notice what they are. I was happy to see the F-15 once again. Last time I seen the F-16, F-15, and the F-18 was in Chicago when I was at a Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox game (Go White Sox!). F-117 and B-2 bombers I seen in Palmdale, CA (Edwards AFB) I seen them a lot.
Anyways, I just wanted to post about these event that will be in the history books that I seen with my own eyes.
Rest in peace Ford and welcome back home. <salute>
