Hey.. I was wondering if you all could give me tips on being a better sniper? Cause.. I really suck at sniping.. Like hardcore, it's so bad for me that I can barley make kills and I would really like to improve. Can you all help me?

Someone posted this on a youtube video

"I find that leading the target helps, and always steady your rifle before making the shot. Also, equip a bipod. And for long range, make sure you have a high vantage point, where your back is covered, by either boundaries, walls, or even claymores or motion censors. I always am a recon sniper, and I level up quite a bit using these techniques."

Maybe watching this might help you out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CQlW65fFMA

A few little pointers. As a sniper, don't expect to get a lot of kills, or even score. There's a reason the class is called "Recon". Your primary goal is scouting and communication. You gain a vantage point and you watch the objectives and mark/call out the enemy positions to allow give a heads up for your team. That is the most important role a Sniper fills.

As for kills, prioritisation is your friend. When sitting at 700+ metres it might be a little hard to tell which class is which, but you always want to go for the enemy medics first - it stops them reviving and anyone who comes to help them, has to spend a few seconds trying to find their kit.

The next important tip for kills is "Who's the biggest threat". Maybe your team mates are rolling up in a tank, you spot an engineer hiding away - you take him out first. He's the biggest threat.

If you're playing a mobile sniper, stick the edges of the map. Decide where you're going and then take the route with the least combat. Position yourself so you can see the objective/point and have a good view leading to you. If you're sniping from a building, do NOT snipe from the window and also do NOT snipe from the back of the room. You ever seen Black hawk down? "Stay away from the walls! - Wha-*BOOM*". Snipe from the middle of the room. This requires you to make a very purposeful decision on where to stand. If you're watching a flag on conquest, you'll pick the building that gives you the best view of the flag, whilst allowing you to expose the minimum amount of yourself.

Equipment is a useful little bonus, the T-UGs is invaluable to a recon class. Stick it down, set up camp for a while and keep an eye on the map. A good rule of thumb, keep it slightly away from your position - if anyone see's it they'll immediately be on the look out for a sniper - so by placing it a little way away, you've now got a heads up and the enemy is looking for you in the wrong place.

<I'll add more when I have a little more time!>

Estimate the distance of the target and remember the bullet drop then lead the target unless standing still. It's still really hard though on BF3. I think it's easier on BFBC2.

Seriously Jaina...
I don't think you need any help with this particular subject.
We all have our bad nights (yes, even us Trolls).
And sometimes those bad nights extend to a couple days, even a week.

However, if you still have problems, I recommend posting something specific.
Something like...
"If I shoot at somebody and miss, all my shots miss after that and he/she gets away."
Then you get tips for that certain problem.
Or
"I can engage far away targets, no problem. But sometimes they get up close, and I have no time to pull out my pistol. This happens often."
My answer to that would be: "Choose a scope that you can use at both long- and short-ranges. Like the ACOG, or the M145, or even the 8x. Keep using it till whoever comes after you learns his/her lesson, or you find a spot where they can't find you."
Or you'll get a different answer from someone else.

If you have a problem with sniping from buildings, Dark Star's tip would help you out, though he doesn't tell you why sniping too close to the window or back against the wall is a bad thing.
The Black Hawk Down quote pretty much sums it up but there's another reason for it.
If you're sniping from a building, do NOT snipe from the window and also do NOT snipe from the back of the room. You ever seen Black hawk down? "Stay away from the walls! - Wha-*BOOM*". Snipe from the middle of the room.

-Sniping from the window allows you to get a better view of your targets or target objective, but also allows the enemy to get a better view of you. Sometimes it's unavoidable and you have to stick your head out the window to engage targets of importance.

-Putting your back up against the wall gives you a not-so-good view of your targets or target objective (if you can even see it), but protects you from being spotted by the enemy (especially if you're hiding the flash from your rifle with a Silencer or Suppressor).
However when someone does find you, and they don't care much for revenge beyond killing you, they're best course of action would be to launch 40mm grenades or Rockets into the building you're occupying.
If your back is up against the wall when one of these projectiles hits it, you're more likely to die than if you had been away from it.

([Fact on the quote from the movie] The other reason was that the 7.62mm rounds that the AK-47 uses would sometimes ricochet off the wall, and instead of flying away from it, would sometimes ride up against it and into anyone unlucky enough to be leaning against the wall, or in clear sight of that bullet)

-Sniping from the middle of the room is the best course of action, but I wouldn't get too comfortable.
Once you start getting kills and what not, and you've been up there for a while.
Move away.
Doesn't matter if you've moved in your TV, your bed and comforter, put up all your posters...
One, if not all, of your enemies are packing Tubes and Rockets, and are ready to evict you from your Home away from Home.

Well...people use the M39 EMR strictly for if there gonna run and gun, they put a grip and a silencer on it as well as a close range scope like a acog.

but really...If I'm gonna run and gun I'm going to use a different class. You wanna know how to be a medic then you give me a ring.

Or if you wanna know how to MAV...I'm pretty good at that...I'm getting better...lol prolly the best PMS with a MAV lol!

One last thing! Supressors increase the bullet drop by a lot so if you wanna be a better sniper try sniping with out them

Like most people have said already, you can either be a long-range recon that calls out objectives, enemies, and enemy vehicles, while watching your teammates backs. Or you can be the aggressive recon with a PDW, or a semi-auto suppressed sniper with a small scope.

If it's a close encounter map, that has a ton of buildings, with windows, you want to play the semi-auto with a bipod, and suppressor. Set up somewhere, but remember....if you get a ton of kills, you definitely want to move to a new location. If you want to play the aggressive side of recon in those close encounter maps, take a red dot/kobra/holo, to your semi-auto, or your bolt action, if you feel you can always get those headshot's. I particularly use my bolts for medium, to long range. If you have the jump on somebody, take the time for those headshot's. Headshot's are you best friend with a sniper ;)
