This is news from where i live!

LEE COUNTY: Bell ringers with the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign received a $1,300 drop in the bucket from an anonymous donor. Officials with the Salvation Army say it is a good example of how just one coin can change so many lives.

When the holiday season comes around, officials with the Salvation Army just hope for spare change to make a difference. This season, they are hoping to raise $400,000 to help Southwest Florida families make ends meet.

While that goal would take a whole lot of pennies from most people, one coin helped them inch closer to that goal.

Tim Vintine donates his time as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. He says he simply tries to bring joy to others during the holidays. But he can only do that when people drop money into the bucket.

Meg Geltner, of the Lee County Salvation Army, explained that on Wednesday night, someone helped more than most people do.

"We received a beautiful donation - a gold coin in this kettle," said Geltner.

It is the third year in a row that a gold coin has been dropped into one of the buckets to help those with the Red Kettle Campaign achieve their goal.

"We checked on the internet and the coin is valued at $1,300," said Geltner.

But Geltner does not believe that it has been the same gift giver each time because they have all been dropped in very different locations. The latest coin was given at the Publix in Morse Shores along Palm Beach Boulevard.

No matter where the coins are dropped off though, they all go toward providing the same holiday spirit.

"We have more than 2,000 families that couldn't make ends meet this Christmas," said Geltner. "The $400,000 we hope to raise will pay for the items we have to purchase for our Christmas Cheer program."

Geltner just hopes the gold coin reminds people that all it takes to make a big difference is a little change.

Now that officials with the Salvation Army have determined the value of the coin, they are trying to sell it. If they don't find a buyer, it will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. All of the money will go to the Christmas Outreach Program.

That's really cool, but I must admit... I'm the one that gave that coin.

But seriously, that's what the the holidays should be about.

Yea, theres no way someone wouldve gave that coin away without knowing its worth. They did it on purpose out of the kindness in their heart! Because they still havnt come forward!
