Im no pro at PS but i do know quite a bit!
Thats not a bad sig for a very first one.
You could start by blending the render and giving your entire sig a sharper look. Also background that are mad using brushes tend to look better than images. Thats just a couple of things
But not bad for a first sig, pretty good actually!

I would say maybe blend the render more, and grey doesn't tend to go with fire, What I ussually do is to blend the edges, grab a round eraser, Set opacity to 30% on eraser and erase the edges, and to make it look a lil like the background colour wise, Go to the layer, Go to image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and click colourize and mess around with the bars. Also you might wanna try and put text on bg and blend it, Cuz text on the render takes away from its quality, The thing I mostly do, Is kinda hide it so its hard to see, But not invisible. Also if you need some brush's, lots of renders, Or Fonts just pm me and i'll send you a link.
But good job on your first sig. Kicked mine's ***. My first sig didn't even have a render or text, lol I didn't know how. It was just a blurry background.
Also another thing. Tuts help so much. They give you techniques so later on when your creating your own you can try some out. You can find some at gamerenders, goodtutorials, and some other good gfx sites. But for a beginner, I would reccomend a vid tut with audio commentary, Because if you get a written tutorial and it says like 'Grab the lasso tool' you'll be like...WTF is a lasso tool?
Oh and BTW a brush is like. Well its hard to say. Look at some backgrounds and you will see, Its a set of brushes in different shapes that give different effects, There are grunge, Abstract etc.. Also if you need any help with anything you can pm me or add me on msn at skate_ty10@hotmail.com

Good advice right there. But i want to point out one thing there:
What I ussually do is to blend the edges, grab a round eraser, Set opacity to 30% on eraser and erase the edges
There is a little easier way to this.
First hold ctrl and click the layer the image is on.
Then go to Select --> Inverse
Next go to Select --> Feather and set the setting between 5 - 10
After you click ok --> Press the delete button and that will fade the edges.
The directions above may seem longer but once you actually do it only take 30 secs or less!
