Frag Dolls posted this myspace bulletin, thought you all might wanna do this too:

Today, Bristol-Myers Squibb, the pharmaceutical monolith that charges nearly $1000 for a 30 day supply of one of its HIV/AIDS medications, is donating $1 to the National AIDS Fund for each person who simply visits their website and "virtually lights a candle."

Please, please take a minute to "light a candle":

i don't understand why they just don't donate the money regardless.
everyone should also check out buy red as well.
when you buy products from companies that are part of the campaign, a part goes to helping hiv/aids people in africa.

Yeah I don't trust that. Mostly because how they advertise it doesn't tell me how it helps, and many christian organizations have been changing their issues from jumping in to politics over homosexual marriage and abstinence to AIDS/HIV in Africa. So it makes me suspiscious whether that money is going to an actual charitable organization that specifically deals with that or if it goes to religious organizations that can (and probably will) support that. But what the religious organizations will do with the money, is questionable. Because of the importance of how prayer can change the world, it would worry me.

Yeah sorry, I'm a very spirtual person and believe in god (non-denominational)--but am writing a research paper that involves a lot this stuff so I'm especially wary about giving money to religious organizations with how much funding they already have from our government (despite laws against it).

But yeah, I like this better cuz I'm broke and don't have money to buy a new cell phone.

EDIT~
JoinRed gives the money to the Global Fund, so my suspicions were wrong.:) yay.

Ya'll have to understand that I just watched a special yesterday on abstinence only programs in high schools (which has been forced into politics by the religious right). Some of these abstinence programs give no teaching on contraception as part of the course and tell kids to seek professional help if they think they are homosexual. ..blah! Among many other government invasions by religious belief.

I think the concept is good. The incentive for people to go to the site is to help give $1 to the AIDS fund. Once they are there, the site gives people the opportunity to learn more about those living with AIDS by clicking on the candles, share their own stories and hopefully raise awareness. Nicely done site as well! Thanks for sharing!
