Final Boss announced today that they would be making their first team change since the beginning of the 2005 season, letting go support player Saiyan in favor of StrongSide. This move marks only the second team change for the squad since they formed in the middle of the 2004 MLG season during the era of Halo: CE.

“StrongSide’s a really dedicated player,” Walshy explained this week. “I think that drive will help us keep our game up, whereas we slipped a little bit this past season.” Final Boss had dominated most of the past two seasons on the MLG Pro Circuit, losing only a single tournament (MLG Philly, 2005) until the end of this season when they fell to Carbon three times in a row and lost the National Championship title for the first time since the creation of MLG. Ogre 2 mirrored his captain’s praise of their new player as well, “We chose StrongSide because he is a very skilled player and has an incredible drive to play and improve.”

There have been criticisms in the past of StrongSide’s mental game, notably from his former team, Carbon, who dropped him in favor of Ghostayame before winning the final three tournaments of the year. Final Boss however, dismissed all those criticisms. Ogre 2 said that with StrongSide, “Final Boss will improve in every gametype. He has played as our fourth in the past when Saiyan couldn’t get on and he’s been to our house several times. We’ve played next to him and he listens very well and adapts. He’s already great, but he could be amazing with a little bit of help.”

“After StrongSide got kicked off of Carbon he’s been practicing his 4v4s non-stop,” Walshy said looking forward to the 2007 season. “Over the next few months he’ll be spending time with the twins and myself to help improve his game even more. He’s going to be an absolute beast by the season opener.” When asked directly about whether the acquisition of StrongSide will allow Final Boss to retake the championship from Carbon in ’07, Walshy had only this to say: “We’ve already played a few games with him and he seems to fit into our lineup really well, so I don’t think it’ll take long to adjust. Things are looking very good for this lineup.”

Final Boss recently signed an agreement with NBA star Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards to be the team’s sponsor. Walshy described talking to Gilbert about the team change and said in the end the decision was left in the hands of the team. “As an NBA player he knows that team changes happen all the time. He said that if this was what we were feeling was necessary then we had to follow our instincts no matter how difficult it was.” So with the team sponsor leaving the power to make the decision with the team, Final Boss contacted both Saiyan and StrongSide and made the change official.

StrongSide’s former teammates on Legendz appeared to be unsurprised by the move. Explaining their certainty of StrongSide’s departure Vash said, “When it comes down to it, we’ve known he was leaving for a while now. We used to joke about him going to Final Boss all the time. Mike goes to their house and plays with them more than he plays with us. It was obvious.”

Not only were they unsurprised, the members of Legendz seemed unconcerned with the team change. Defy, in particular, said the change might be good for Legendz. “Mike didn’t really fit with our team,” he stated. “We had the same problems with him that Carbon had. He’s a great guy, though, and if he fits with Final Boss’ style of play then I could see this benefiting both teams.”

Of course this also leaves questions about other roster changes in the league, particularly for Legendz. After finishing fourth at the National Championships in Las Vegas, Legendz will be shopping for the most powerful free agent to fill StrongSide’s place. Mack suggested that Legit from Storm Ventures and Saiyan are at the top of the Legendz wish list, but added, “All that depends on whether any other teams make a change… If that happens it brings other players into the equation for us.”

Just a few weeks after the end of the 2006 season, major changes seem to be taking place in the league. Final Boss made their big move by picking up StrongSide early, giving them as much time as possible to improve their teamwork before the ’07 season opener. Other top teams will be looking to secure their rosters as well, so keep your eyes on mlgpro.com for the latest in pro team news.

Well, it seems like an interesting exchange.

I think we will be seeing more wins in the upcoming '07 season from FB.

Hope everything goes well for them.

Wow. How ironic would it be if Strongside was the factor that allowed FB to get back on top of Carbon.

lol, like 2 or 3 days ago I was watching one of the VoG Vegas vids and i started wondering if FB losing to Carbon 3 times in a row might push them into dropping their weaker link (Saiyan) and picking up someone fresh. Boy did I call that one... but then agian, who didnt?

Wait, i'm not!? awwww shucks!
:tomato:
hehe.

The move doesn't really surprise me much, and I think it can potentially make a better FB - but I also don't think that they can blame their losses just on the guy they've dropped, I think they all need to step up their game again to take it back into first. Still, with such narrow gametypes I do believe that another team could pop up for the next season, I suppose only time will tell.

OMG I judge all these bamazing tournaments and have the authority and power to disqualify any bamazing pro that I want.

I'm so 1337 too.

OMG I get free meals from the owners of MLG, who made all this possible.

I'm so 1337 too.

Anyways, If Saiyan wants to keep playing, he'll get picked up by another well known team. It'll make things interesting for the 07 season.

When people kept Saying how "Sayian was the weakest link on FB.." I started to think of who they would replace Sayian with if they actually removed him from the roster. I thought StrongSide. I guess I was right. :)

Considered to be the #1 Team in the world at Halo 1 and 2

Here's a brief overview:

Final Boss, considered to be the top Halo 2 team in the world, has won more tournaments and matches than any other team ever. During the 2005 season, I think the lost maybe 2 matches total. Just matches. They dominated the scene so completely, that they were considered the undisputed champions of Halo 2.

This season though, Carbon, who has been a top 4 competitor, really elevated their game. They made a team change about halfway through the season, which was considered a very questionable move by many in the Halo community. The following tournament though, Carbon proved that their choice was serious by being the first team to beat Final Boss this season. This was considered a fluke occurance, until, at the playoffs, Final Boss was beaten again by Carbon. Many thought that Final Boss was slacking, and after they obtained a coach (an optional position on any team), they appeared ready and willing to retake their crown at the Las Vegas Championships.

Well, Carbon dominated them once again, and proved that Final Boss needed to make a change in order to remain a competitor for the top spot. Saiyan, who has been with Final Boss since the beginning, was replaced by another veteran Halo 2 player (who has been a free agent since being dropped by Carbon. Ironic).

Now, with the practice time available between this season and next, things should get very interesting. Hopefully that helps some.

Some corrections Brandon.

SS isn't considered a Veteran, because he only became a questionable player, last year after Seattle, after he practically carried SV.

And he didn't drop Carbon, he actually left Legendz, and like the new's says, Legendz is now looking into picking up Sayain, and Legendz wasn't surprised that he left, because more often then not, he was practicing with FB at the ogre's house.

they shouldnt have dropped Saiyan in favor of StrongSide.
saiyan was a good team player even though strongside is really talented will he beable to pull of the team work.

INHO He will be able to pull off the teamwork. The article spoke about the fact that SS, has replaced Saiyan in many different practices, etc. And to top if off like I said, he lan's with FB quite a bit, so i think after a little time, he will be an amazing player for FB.

Ok Blue.

I talked to Clap, just to clarify myself. I'm sure that you know that Clap is one of the upper dogs with MLG. I asked him who Ghostayame replaced on Carbon. He said:

(14:34:40) Mr MLG Clap: strngside
(14:36:58) r33hash: thanks. i thought so

Also asked a fellow judge:

Dan says (2:38 PM):
strongside
Dan says (2:38 PM):
who's not on final boss
Dan says (2:38 PM):
*now

And considering that Strongside has not only been the only player to challenge Karma in any way, shape, or form when it comes to 1v1, and he is eligible to play on a team called "Legendz", as well as fill a spot for Final Boss, I'd easily call him a veteran of the MLG scene.

Yes, but after Carbon, he was on Legendz.

As for calling him a veteran, I consider someone a veteral if you have been around for a long period of time, such as (Ogre 1,2, Walshy, Killer N) People that came from H1.

It's just my opinion, based apon the def of veteran. I don't not consider him a pro in any way.

r33hash
12-08-2006, 04:10 PM
Veteran and pro are two different areas. He is definitely pro. You can't get selected to play on the number 1/2 teams and not be pro.

As for veteran, Halo 2 is quickly coming to the end of its life cycle. I don't think you can put a time period on someone's worth. A veteran is someone who has been around long enough to influence his given position in a larger way than any normal person would.

In my opinion it goes like this. FB picked up strongside because well, he's strongside. Strongside is a good team player when on a team who he fits in with. I talk to Michael "Strongside" Cavenaugh alot. He told me something big was gonna happen to him eventually and few people would see it coming.

As for FB picking him up (keep note this is only my opinion). Who would you pick up on your team to help you get better so you can beat another team? wouldn't it be someone who was on that team? I think it would be. I think FB wanted someone who could pick up some slack (not calling Saiyan a slacker the man is a beast. but he sucks at getting out of Gemini. it took him and Ogre 2 a hour just to get on top of the portle..anyways) and who knew ALOT about the other teams play strats. Sure, strategies change. But, i think StrongSide KNOWS how Carbon thinks. He knows more about Carbon than FB did. So now that FB has someone who was on CBN they can learn how they think as well. i think it was a smart move by Walshy and the Ogres.

I mean it does seem pretty Logical. Pick up someone who knows how they think. Brilliant.

Plus, he's the only one who can consistently challenge Karma in the 1v1's. If he can up his game in both the 1v1 and 4v4, FB might claim top spots in both categories next season.
