Earlier this year Cryptic Studios was bought out by Perfect World Entertainment a Chinese Free to Play company, with such titles as Perfect World, Forsaken World, Rusty Hearts and a whole slew of other games. The purchasing of Cryptic set about a precedence for it was one of the first big purchases by a Chinese game company.
Now after months of speculation Cryptic has announced that Star Trek Online is going Free to play, but unlike its previous title Champion Online which went F2P but with heavy restrictions in content and what players could do or make without paying a monthly fee. In fact the model posted by Cryptic is basically a free game and you really only pay for more character slots and inventory space.
STO online plays much like EVE with ships and learning skills and tech to fly ships but also has social as well as ground combat. The game is enjoyable and features "Featured Episodes" which are campaign missions with a plot that places you in the middle of the action. They have Fleet actions which consist of upwards of 20 people. They also have STF or Special Task Force missions which are a mixture of a Raid as well as a story episode. 10-25 people can join in the fun.
This being stated I just created this post as a form of "Hey check it out" kinda deal. I have plans on playing this as well as Firefall for some fun but will be also playing Forsaken World if you wanna join me. Also I feel it is a better game then EVE for it mixes space and ground combat. Also yes I played this game as well as EVE so I sorta know what I am talking about. xD
