I'll try and get a link up later for it.
IT WAS SO SWEET!!!! A little short but I was satisified.
I almost missed it cus it was two kids staring up at the sky and then one gets up and hes the chief and there is wraith fire over head and he throws a grenade down and it creates a bubble shield and it protects him from a blast and then he runs and jumps off a cliff, into a swarm of elites and wraiths. The land looks barren and sandy and very bright. Umm I'll try and post a more detailed description lol Or someone add to mine please I know its lacking.
That new grenade/shield was amazing, it made my jaw drop lol
So we have a new "grenade" device besides the spike one confirmed by this commercial.
Any thoughts questions comments etc?

The commercial will not be aired again on T.V. anymore.
In like 3 hours it will be available on Xbox.com
Sometime tomorrow it will be available on Marketplace.
Luckily when I saw the kids under the stars I was like "Hey this visual is cgi-esque maybe I should turn my head and watch" lol ^_^

Yeah I can't wait till Halo 3 either. :) So cool.
I was thinking the same thing, SkywaLker. I'm guessing that it's before the Spartan training since I doubt that they have time after they were taken to lay around and look at the stars. But I still have no idea who she is. -_-;;
I really want to know too. I'm one of those storyline people. Just got to know everything lol >_<

I think those were Brutes. My support?
Bottom right enemy has something that looks like a blade coming out from his hand. Looks like the blade on the Spiker, and Bungie has said that the Spikers are Brute weapons.
The middle enemy clad in red carries a hammer remarkably similar to the one carried by Tarturus in Halo 2.
From the trailer, they look like Zakus(from Gundam) to me more than organic enemies lol.

I think the girl is Cortana, I know it sounds stupid but hear me out...
I remember reading somewhere (In one of the Halo novels I believe) that Cortana is an AI interpretation of someone who once lived, and also that H3 is supposed to reveal Cortana's past.
So if you think about those 2 aspects it doesn't seem so far fetched afterall, of course i'm probs wrong but for now thats what I think.

Cortana is an AI modeled after Dr. Catherine Halsey in the Halo storyline, the one behind the Spartan II project. Dr. Halsey is older than all of the Spartans (she was in her late 20's or so when they were recruited).

ACtually Dajin, there are several other spartans, two female ones who's status is not entirely known after the end of the last novel. Dr Halsey was traveling with Kelly last we knew about them (if memory serves), and they did recover Linda in a cryotube as well (she's the one who is a sicccck sniper). At least thats what I remember, whether or not i'm 100% right, or if they'll show up - I don't know.....but it would be flippin amazing if they did.
I'm not gonna lie, the trailer is amazing looking, and has got me excited about halo again - as much because I want the storyline as because the game looks good (i know that was CG but still).

Supposedly, its a combination of both CG and In-game representation, although not actually using the in-game engine. Bungie stated that its a close representation of what the game will look like.

from bungie.net's update
-The commercial is 60 seconds long.
-It will air during Monday Night Football on December 4th. Sometime around 6-ish, PST.
-That’s the US date. Everyone else will get a chance to see it soon.
-An HD version will appear on marketplace fairly soon.
-The commercial is a mix of CG and Live Action.
-It is not supposed to represent gameplay.
-It is supposed to show pure action from the Halo universe. Think of it like the Graphic Novel.
-It was made by Hollywood effects house, Digital Domain.
-Digital Domain did base its stuff on our in-game 3D models.
-It is packed full of clues and stuff.
-It is nifty.
-We may host it on Bungie.net at some time in the future.
The question is whether by character models it means that the textures were all what we'll see in game or not. I know we won't see him running like that in game, but damnnnn I must say the motion capture on that is absolutely perfect. Some people thought it looked odd, but if you notice he holsters the pistol in mid-run. And then he also is affected by the blast, so yeh it does look really realistic. Definately not what we'll see in game, but looks damn good in CG.

But thanks for your opinion on the matter.
Besides, knowing Bungie and their ways of advertisement, it makes perfect sense to look into anything they release regarding Halo moreso than with any other game.

If you know anything about bungie, they usually produce some kind of hidden hint in a commercial like this. as far as chilling out? i like halo, i like the story of halo, and i like to try and find any hidden secret in something like this, in fact bungie even stated there were some hidden hints in this commercial.

So they are brutes, its just the angle that makes them look so small, besides most of them are hunched over sorta from what it looks like in this picture:

The enemies he was running at were a different breed of hostiles. I have proof later on so hear me out. Also you can hear Cortana's voice (I highly positive its her) and the sarges calling the chiefs name in the background.
K so the new enemies. Heres my first prediction the head one is carrying what I believe to be the fist of Ruk't which is tartarus' hammer. SInce he was kia this new race took their spot as protectors of the council much like the brutes did to the elites.
Now as to what the new race looks like....
The screenshot posted earlier cleary shows their not elites.
Now over the summer this screenshot was realesed and its pretty definative the race in both pictures is the same. This screenshot was leaked out on the Bungie forums some time ago.

Linda, Kelly, Dr. Halsey, Fred, the Spartan-III Gamma Company (consisting of one team that is wiped out completely, one that sustains heavy losses, and the other is put into a type of slipspace-cryo) are inside a compressed Dyson Sphere in the middle of Onyx. It amounts to a space much larger than Earth, yet only a few meters in diameter in Onyx.

i am currently reading this book right now, and id have to say it is amazing
I need to talk to my friend about getting those books, because I haven't read any of them. To be completely honest, I only learned about them a little bit over a month ago.
About the sheild grenade you guys were talking about, that's not what it does. I have two links from halogrid.com that explain it somewhat, but I'm not entirely sure that it's all for certain.
http://www.halogrid.com/hgforum/showthread.php?t=47006
and this next one disproves that.

but it's got a whole lot of discussion about the grenade being used for a sheild, instead of the x button.

this link is the official halo 3 commercial discussion thread on halogrid.com. I haven't read through it yet, but I will when I post this.
Unless it was said by Bungie themself, it is considered speculation. Just because those people said it (and no doubt, none of them work for Bungie) doesnt make it true. Though having the X button used to make the shield makes sense, that doesnt mean thats what it does.

Funny stuff
I highly doubt that girl would be Linda, since Kelly was the one that hanged out with the Chief more then the others. It will be a surprise to see Kelly in the Game, it will actually tire the books and the games together. But Linda was badly wounded in the First Strike novel, so they had to put in a tube. I think she died, but they said they could revive when they got back to earth, so who knows.
Oh yeah, if any got the Special collectors edition for Halo 2 you will know the name for the new race.

The two kids are rumored to be Dr. Haysley and Captain Keyes.
Girl: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v203/mazt0rchief/Untitled-1 .jpg
And much to the dismay of many, Boy: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v203/mazt0rchief/Kid-2.jpg
I copied this from Bungie forums and it seems pretty interesting take on the whole speculation of the commercial.
"Moving on, just who are these kids? I can tell you one thing, the boy is most likely not John. The Fall of Reach describes John as taller than all the other children at his school, by a full head no less, and you can see in the video that the boy is nearly the same height as the normal girl, I'm not being sexist or anything but at thier age boys are usually taller than girls, especially boys who are a foot taller than normal boys his age.
So if it's not John, how do we explain what is going on?
Perhaps it is not John's memory, maybe instead it is one of Cortana's memories, she is after all, a basic copy of Dr. Halsey's psyche, maybe what we're seeing here is Dr. Halsey as a child, long before the war started? Something that supports this is in a post authered by Sibko, he writes what is an interview with Frankie and KP, in which the follow question and answer are shown:
Ironlion -
Who says "Time to go" as Master Chief gets up in the ad?
Frankie - The little girl.
Frankie - A little girl.
At the times when the little girl says this you can also hear Cortana screaming "Chief, leave me"
Some would see this as a coincidence or nothing more than just two voices screaming in Johns head.
Playing Bungie games for as long as I have, I've come to know that Bungie doesn't do coincidences.
There has to be some significance to the girl because of the way she is replaced by John's Helmet, she disapears into thin air, and John is thrown back into combat, much like Dr. Halsey leaves John and his team on Governor Jiles' asteroid, just as Covenant destroyers exit slipspace to destroy them.
So perhaps what we are seeing here is a strange Cortana/Halsey flashback.
How is this possible? There are a few ways this can be happening, the one I believe to be the case, is Cortana is sending another cryptic message to John, like she does in the Halo 3 trailer. Another possibilty is a previously unknown side effect of Cortana being "poured" into John's mind, leaving scars, thoughts and memories that belong to Dr. Halsey, in John's subconcious.
Based on the evidence I come to the conclusion that the girl is Dr. Catherine Halsey, and the boy we dont know yet."

Even though what Butler posted seems more logical, I found this take from IGN pretty interesting:
The peaceful and innocent opening to the trailer is a stark contrast to the shell-shocking moments that follow. Why Bungie included this pair of children, asking questions about life in space, is a mystery. The sequence appears to be a flashback of Master Chief as a boy before being taken for the Spartan II program. It's not unlikely that John, as he was known before Spartan training, was fascinated with space and the unknown. What's all this mean for Halo 3? It looks like Bungie may be trying to include more sophisticated story-telling elements than using the mutant plant from Little Shop of Horrors to narrate the story. With a giant universe at the writers' disposal, including games, comics and books, Halo 3 should have a deeper story than ever.
As far as I remember, John/Cheif has never hinted at an interest in space or aliens over the past two games, nor has he hinted at a hate of it either. If they suddenly did add this little twist in the storyline and how it develops would add an interesting twist, but it would be rather sudden and, I believe at least, confuse those who don't delve that deep into the Halo storyline in the first place.
Also from IGN, I found it pretty interesting what they though the X button would be used for:
While there's a lot of speculation about the X button, it does seem about time for the Chief to start running. It's pretty clear that a cover system flies in the face of the quick, twitchy gameplay that Halo is known for. But a sprint feature? This would just enhance the madness. Whether it's implemented like Gears of War, where the Chief would not be able to fire, or if the Chief is only able to get off sporadically-aimed rounds is hard to say. But this being Halo, we're guessing the Chief will have a limited sprint feature that will allow the Chief to fire with limited accuracy.
Will sprinting be the big X button? We doubt it, considering all the hype that Bungie has bestowed upon the little blue button. But if melee is B, and jump is A, and it's unlikely that Y would be used for a major function like sprinting, that leaves X. We'll all just have to wait and see, but it seems like the people are ready for an even faster Master Chief. Time will tell.
While they doubt that it will become a sprint function, I, for one, find it possibly the most logical idea. If the shield grenade (if it's implemented in game) became the regular X function, and with the consideration that because it's being mapped to a separate button from the other grenades gives you the thought that they may be unlimited, the multiplayer would severly suffer. Just imagine a multiplayer match. Unless they made it so bullets and melee could penetrate the shield or limited the shield time, people would run around, shoot a couple of shots off, and as soon as they took a little bit of damage, throw up that shield and go into hiding until their armor shielding regenerated.
Meanwhile, if sprinting became that function, I could see Halo working much like a Gears of War format. The sprinting could be a useful way to move from cover to cover and advance up on the enemy, or act as bait while your teammates flank the enemy, which would be useful both online and in single player. Imagine, Cheif being able to actually run across a hallway and distract a rocket camper while one of his teammates sneaks around back and assassinates the rocket camper.

i agree that it is not john. nor is it kelly, during the spartan training they had barely enough time to daddle like that. also as said, john is a "giant" amoung men and that kid was normal size. i can see that being a Halsey Keyes flashback.
Also from IGN, I found it pretty interesting what they though the X button would be used for:
By they way, the link to the entire breakdown of the commercial by IGN: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/749/749182p1.html
IMO the X button will most likely appear as a sprint function, however, i hope to god it does not become a sprint/duck/do everything button like GeOW. a sprint button would be suffice to me, but the hiding behind corner GeOW style is not what halo is about, and hopefully halo will not follow that trend like r6:v did.

It's plausible that it's Halsey and Keyes, but I didn't think they knew each other until FoR?
It could've been John, before they took him to train him, possibly. It's pretty interesting stuff.
I had a feeling it was John at first because it was setting up some good irony and foreshadowing. "Do you think we'll ever meet them?". That's the last thing John hears (which echoes) during his shell shock, so it could be a memory of when he was a young child talking to a friend. That's what I got out of it, anyway.

They sure know how to build hype for a game. So short, yet so sweet and so many questions needing answers...

It will be a Beta; one you have to sign up for. I've finally managed to find a way to register my Gamertag though, so I'm a happy person. :)
It is made very clear at the beginning of FoR that that is the first time Keyes and Halsey meet; it can't be him. To be honest, he's a character that belongs to Halo CE, not Halo 3.
It's an interesting idea that it could be Dr Halsey's memory; we know that Cortana is actually using the Chief's brain for processing power, and since we can be fairly certain that the Chief was one of the first to be united with an AI, side effects can be expected.
Spring, get a move on.

Um, how big a man reaches after puberty has nothing to do on how tall they are as a child. Hell I was small as a child and grew to be 6 foot 7 so I know what theory isnt true :P I've heard other "Giants" among men irl that were short or normal sized and grew to be ignorant size ( 7+ feet). I think its Chief, dont know why but it just seems to fit in with the commercial, perhaps a memory triggered due to him being stunned/knocked out/ect.

i was a big baby. and im a big teenager as well :P
also, from the book discription:
"He had tousled brown hair and a sly grin that revealed a gap between his front teeth. A few freckles were speckled across his cheeks....He was taller than the other children by a full head and stronger as well."
it was kinda dark in the commercial, but i didnt see any freckles, however the brown hair does check out. he was the same size as the little girl, so him being a full head taller isn't right from the commercial. grr i wish i had photoshop still so i could brighten up his mouth. he opens it but its to dark to see if there is a gap lol.

I really doubt they tried to get an exact match like the books.
