Netflix's C.E.O. apologizes about the recent change to fees this summer. Though they won't be changed back to the original, he states that he wished he would've communicated better and because he didn't Netflix lost 1 million of it's 25 million customers.
In addition to that the name Netflix will remain for the streams but won't refer to the DVD-by-mail anymore.
That name has been changed to Quikster and they will appear as two separate companies on your bill if you have stream and dvd by mail.

I heard about this earlier today... I don't get movies by mail, but it is a weird adjustment... I don't understand why they had to take this step but I will continue to be a happy customer of Netfix =):mvboogie:

Here's the deal: the Qwikster website will be up and running in a couple months, but here's why it's gonna suck.
1) Two separate services, two separate charges. Reed Hastings has said that anyone who wants to continue using both the streaming service and DVD-by-mail will automatically have their account set up on Qwikster, and will begin to see a monthly charge applied from both that AND Netflix streaming.
2) Goodbye, integrated favorites and movie queues. There will be no correlation between the two services, which means that anyone who has spent literally dozens of hours over several months rating movies that they have watched and seen their recommendations and suggestions become honed to their taste, will have to start all over again. Your choices on Netflix will not affect Qwikster, and vice versa. No longer will you be able to select a movie and see immediately if it is available for instant watch, or if you don't mind waiting for a DVD.
3) Qwikster service is adding video games to the mix. Normally I would be ecstatic about this, because I have been hoping Netflix would do this for a couple years now. But in lieu of the announced separation, I feel inclined to share my thoughts. Netflix as a whole has never been good about getting brand new releases for good movies on either their DVD OR streaming libraries. Everyone else always has the movie first. Why should we expect the video game service to be any different? As of right now, the only announced platforms Qwikster will support are Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. I have a feeling that this will also incur a secondary or additional charge to the basic service fee, driving the price of the DVD-by-mail service up even further.
Don't get me wrong, I think Netflix is okay (just...okay), but I can't help but feel like we're ALL being given the runaround. Just exactly how is splitting up the service supposed to improve it? Granted, DVD shipping may increase in quality and speed because they will have just THAT to focus on, but the overall service may suffer.
In my completely unprofessional opinion, I think Netflix, like Blockbuster, is scrambling to stay up-to-date and fresh because it sees that its appeal is waning. DVD-by-mail is a dying industry, which would explain why the company wants to keep the famous Netflix logo attached to the "way of the future," as it were. That way if the DVD-by-mail business DOES tank, it won't drag its streaming business down with it.

✼Thanks for this... I didn't exactly understand how it was all going to play out. The game renting sounds like a good idea though, regardless if the games are going to be new releases or not... ✼

The problem I'm having is that the streaming service is not fully up-to-date. They are constantly dropping good movies and picking up, for lack of a better word, crap. They rarely get the newest releases for the streaming. It's looking like I'll be dropping streaming soon since they don't even have half the shows I want fully uploaded for streaming.
