View Full Version : Virus Warning!

If you're on an IM program and get a message from a friend asking "Is this you?" with a link to what at first glance looks like it's to a Picture.

DON'T CLICK THE LINK!

I've seen a couple people on these forums infected by it, so I figured I'd warn people about it.

What it does is install a virus on your computer. This virus sends the same message your friend sent to you to everyone on your list over and over again. I don't know any of the other affects of this virus, but I can bet that there are plenty of them.

I don't want to have to keep blocking people.

Also, I'm not sure if virus scanners clean this up. I got one once, and my scanner didn't seem to notice it. I ended up having to reformat I believe.

I had to block her :( because I kept getting the message "Is this you? :p
www.somelink.peopleontheinterwebarestupid.org/index.php?pic00028.jpg
"

PS: anyone know how to stop the forums from converting my text into a link?

that is why you need to have more then one virus scaning program and you should also get Adaware SE to help because it might not ba a Virus but instead it could be a spybot. and most spybots can't be cleaned by using a virus scan.

There's ways that a website can make your computer do things without alerting your antivirus/spyware software. They use scripts I believe.

i clicked it...i got the virus out, if you do click it exit MSN and do a virus scan.
after you do that go to START then PROGRAMS then ACCESSORIES then SYSTEM TOOLS then SYSTEM RESTORE...when you do that somthing will pop up, there should be somthing that says "Restore my computer to an erlier time"
Click the a bold blue number that is on the 24 or 23...or close to that one.
click that keep clicking next till your computer shuts down wait till every thing is done loading...AND YAY ITS FIXED!!

Glad you got it fixed. :)

BTW that number you're clicking (23 or 24) is the date you want to set your computer back to. Just thought that would be a usefull piece of info since sometimes taking it back only a day or two won't help.

on myspace if you click it, it takes you to this false login page.. then when you enter your username and password, its stored in their database and until you CHANGE your password, stupid bulletins will be psoted.

I know, but you get the box. I wanted to keep it as plain text and not have it automatically converted into a link. It's a pain in the @ss but I guess we have to live with it.
