Has anyone had a chance to watch it? I thought it was fab and i'm trying not to be so GoW bias. It really it a great ad.

On the other hand, what happened wit PS3's commercial? It's like they really cheaped out. I didn't get the whole egg thing. Shouldn't they have tried to show off their new system by showing us some kick butt graphics or something? Shesh.

lol Dont know whats up what their commercial......the baby one really creeps me out the baby calling ps3 mommy???? but yea that GOW commercial Stays on lol I hear it in the other room everything I play GOW online in the late nights.lol

Yes, the first time I saw the GofW commercial I was speechless really.........and that song has been stuck in my head for weeks now ("Mad World" by Gary Jules for those of you who didn'y know, originally a song by Tears for Fears).

As for the creepy baby commercial for PS3? I saw that last week during the Simpsons, and I sat afterwards thinking, "wtf was that about??". Very, very creepy. I just didn't get it......

They shouldn't because they know they can't beat the graphics of the 360 games that are out now...

I don't think the PS3 is going to do a whole lot better than the 360 TBH.

Now don't start thinking i'm a m'soft fanboy because before anyone does start thinking that before I bought the 360 I was completely biased towards Sony, but as far as the PS3 goes, the difference isn't exactly phenomenal.

Back on topic, I havn't seen the PS3 commercial but i've seen the GoW one and its gone down in my book as one of the most effective and emotional commercials of all time for a video game, it really struck a nerve with me.

you can also grab the Gears commercial on the marketplace.
I've seen the baby and egg one for PS3, as well as the bird and the cube one. I think they're just kinda too strange in my opinion, but oh well.

The PS3 commercials annoy me.

They think their thinking outside of the box and being creative with their marketing when in reality I really dont care. There not getting anything across in my opinion to the viewer.

The GoW commercial does the opposite it highlights the tone of the game and matches the videogame art with a complementative choice of music blending together rich visuals and sounds.

PS3 blows up a rubicks cube......

Well I was going to edit my post but I like seeing my post count go up (/nerd).

But even though I dont really find much interest in consoles, Gears of War defininately picked up a song (Mad World by Gary Jules) that made me notice it. Maybe that sounds really dumb, but when you're as avid as a PC player as me, the instant you see the Xbox logo on the commercial, you lose interest.. and even though I'm still not interested, I dont know.. the song triggered a subconcious interest which I dont understand. It makes no sense, it sounds dumb, but I guess I just like the song. I also have an accordian solo version of it. \o/

I agree with you a 100% and its not dumb at all.

They just broke the mold of a normal xbox commercial that we all have come to dislike.

I would say this would have been a good "Superbowl Commercial" if it had come out at that time.

The Gears of War ad made you 'feel' and I think thats all the devs had hoped for.
It doesn't matter what sort of artist a person is, a novelist, a director, a musician, and it doesn't matter how many awards you get for your work, i'd say the ultimate achivement for an artist is for they're work to make a person feel.

Crying at a movie, Anger at a book because one your favourite characters died or laughing at a video game because the dialogue is funny, all feelings.

I think what took people by surprise the most was that Gears was a self proclaimed next gen action/thriller game, and yet the commercial had one of the saddest songs known playing on it, that struck alot of people and made them realise the game had/has depth.

Bravo Epic.

Exactly why I enjoyed it so much.

PS3 ads are just a sad attemp to entertain its viewers through its commercials. So pitiful. I laugh with pity and am angry at the ads but I don't think thats the feelings the creators were trying to evoke from me. lol

I'm just questioning what the PS3 ads are really trying to sell...the game or the system? Freaky commercials if you ask me.

But the GoW commercial uses a very cool song. IMO, one of the best game commercials out this year, hands down.

I really liked the GoW commercial as well. I thought the direction was great, music choice (obviously) was right on the mark and it was short enough to grab your attention and keep it.

I also really like the Sony commercials. I like how they're obscure. Of course, I was an art major so delivering messages via visual and audio form, regardless of how obscure, is something I treasure. I can understand why a lot of people woudln't like them though, as it certainly isnt mainstream marketing. I think the smart decision would have been to aim the commercial in an overt mainstream direction while also delivering an obscure message as an undertone for those who enjoy that sort of thing (adding depth while still delivring a message everyone can understand from the get-go).

I think the real issue is that due to the target price, competition and lack of interesting launch titles, Ps3 is a product that at the moment most don't really care about. As a result, the majority doesn't find it worth the effort to decipher a cryptic commercial for a product they have no interest in.

I totally agree with Asphix, a console takes time to take-off and I think that it would have been in Sony's best interests to try and 'sell' they're product more in they're commercials rather than making it alot more complicated than was needed.
