None of the programmes on my laptop will open, the only thing that works is my IE provider shortcut which when connected will automatically open my browser which works fine. All the browser items work normal. Even the task manager will not open "ctrl alt del". I opened with safe mode and was able to open norton security and run a full system scan which came up with a "0" threat result. Its a windows 7 home premium edition. I dont know what else to say about it so any help will be appreciated.

I can tell you the first problem being you use Norton as an standalone A/V. Try these easy-to-use online scanners:
TrendMicro (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/) / ESET (http://www.eset.com/online-scanner)
(Should look into offerings such as ESET NOD32, Kaspersky, G-DATA, or Avira, most others are garbage)

Let's try some things,
Click Start
Type: CMD, from the results, right click CMD
Click 'Run as Administrator'
At the Command Prompt, type: sfc /scannow

It will perform an integrity check for any violations in the system.

You can also try using the Win7 Repair Tool found on the Win7 Installation disk.

Post back for further info :)

Oh just a little FYI, if you have System Restore enabled, try that function. But after using, remember to disable that feature, System Restore has forever been plagued with leaving malware/virii/etc in the restoration files and causing possible tampering of files/processes.

Ok when i did this "Click Start Type: CMD, from the results, right click CMD
Click Run as Administrator" It gave me the message "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)". As far as trying to restore it to a earlier date I cannot because no programmes will open or function.

Will it let you make another admin-user account? If so, it's a possibility this is isolated to just that user account.

How long has it been since your last reformat? What I do is make full backup images of the SSD once or twice a month, then save those 2 - 4 images on an external HDD. For the most part it keeps things pretty simple. If you are using a prebuilt, for future reference, you can look into a Windows/OS partition if the prebuilt does not already have one set up. It's definitely a life-saver to have backups laying around :)

Ok i dont know if this is possible... been for ever since i installed a OS. But on your OS installation disk is there a repair option? Maybe something was installed that screwed up something in the OS recently.

I'll have to try and track down that disc as I have no idea where it is ha and don't have a good feeling about finding it but I will give a look for it.

AVG is another good one, my boyfriend uses AVG free as a standalone A/V :)

Use the original antivirus packages to protect your laptop... avoid always downloading using your IE.. browse through latest web browsers.... antivirus will not cost more than your system....Take care of your gadgets...

Glad to hear you got everything running once more :)

Nothing wrong with not wanting to spend money on an A/V, but AVG is very unreliable and detection rate is about as good as Avast when there are free options like Avira Personal available as well as Microsoft Security Essentials (you might be pleasantly surprised, Microsoft did something right other than Windows 7 :O <-- That was my face too when I learned MSE is decent).
