View Full Version : Halo 2 cheats?

I have a question for the hardcore Halo fans...

So I here about a lot of things about "cheaters" and I wondered what these cheats were, and if they are considered cheats because: they make the game no fun to play, they make it unfair for the opposing player or they just make a person almost impossible to beat? I'm mostly asking because I generally have dealt with fighting games, where in high level play, that's what the game is; broken characters, glitches and complete and utter exploitation of bugs. But the idea is everyone knows how to use them, it's just learning how to use and beat them.

For instance in the DOA series, there's a glitch called slow-escaping--with constant motions of the d-pad or analog stick and tapping or holding down the block button causes you to come out of a stun faster. All high level players use it, it's just part of that level of play. But then there's a glitch on certain stages that your opponent can get you stuck behind something causing the time to run out and loose the match--that one is banned in tournaments, buts it's not like anyone every uses it anyway. The one time in my 6,000+ matches online I had one person use it on me once, as a joke. There's no point to it, the point of a match is to fight someone, not wait for the time to run out.

So, is it that there's more little kids on Halo that think playing online is about getting people angry and not about the actual game?

EDIT~

I realized Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (MvC2) would be a better example. In MvC2 tournaments, you just DON'T win or get anywhere in high level play unless you pick one of the top teams, you use infinite combos and every possible glitch. I think you'd have to watch a video to understand: http://youtube.com/watch?v=o5Xy2O_MNYo

But that games hecka hard to learn, omg...

yes to that, and i think the halo fan base is turned toward little 13 year olds, where as DOA is more of a "hardcore" game in the sense that it takes time and skill to master it so less of the "haha i cheated on you so im cool" kids are in it.

did you want a list of the halo2 cheats? im a lil confused about that lol

Well not really, the average DOA4 player is actually like 16.

I guess I'm asking if there a difference in the attitude about glitches and such in FPS and fight games and working with and around them, or are the glitches just redunkules and don't actually add anything to game or make it anymore interesting.

Well cheaters like to mess with the connection if they are host which creates everyone to lag except host which he/she can then run around and kill everyone and you cant do much about it (Known as Standby). The hardcore cheaters like to mod their xbox and transform the maps and make them the way they want which can be like invincibility or infinite ammo or one spawn for a team where they die instantly. The newest way which people are being screwed over is call DoS attacking someone which allows some one that isnt host to flood a persons internet which shuts it down and makes the person lag out. Others will bridge people out of matches which they can take a persons ip address and when they are host and block their ip from accessing their host which then lags him out. Some people will also consider super bouncing cheating and what this does is it allows a person to hit a certain spot on a map and allow them to bounce up to really high places sometimes out of the map which gives them an advantage. These are pretty much all the forms of cheating which people will use and most of time is impossible to beat. Bungie and Xbox try their best to suspend and ban all of these players but most of them keep making new accounts. One way to avoid this is to just stick with playing training games and custom games with your friends because going into matchmaking is only a matter of time until one gets cheated. I hope this helps you out

Then why don't people just play in private rooms with people they know? I haven't had a public room or went into one in a long time, only when no one's on. And standbying and all that are all in all online games really, we used to have a problem with that in DOAU but nobody took those players seriously. I mean I guess my question in, why is it a big deal if theres a bunch of scrubs breaking the game? Obviously if you want to be taken seriously or respected as a player you play in clan matches (where if you cheat you're disqualified) or you play offline.

Because halo 2 uses the matchmaking system where you choose the matchmaking option and get matched up with people who you dont know. You can go in with people you know if you choose one of the team options but then you are playing with you people you know against people you dont know which alot of the time will cheat on you. You can choose to play with just only people you know but Halo has ranks which rank by numbers to show off your skill at the game. Although i would have to say 80% of the number next to peopls names should not be there due to the fact of cheating or playing with good people or playing against someone deranking and not trying.

edit

You can play the game privatly but theirs no ranks in a private game and thats what keeps people playing(IMO). Its sad because anyone will do anything just to get a higher number to show off skill which about 99% no one believes because most of the tie if its soo high, theres no way you got there without cheating.

So why don't Halo people accept that and give up on rank? I'm not trying to rag on anyone, I guess it's just like in DOA4 online, respected players don't bother with rank, due to the same reasons. The person on the top of the leaderboard has like 9 million points, which is just impossible, especially for the number of matches they have. I dunno, you guys play to practice and get better right? So why let things like your rank online get in the way of that? Not that I always did that, when I used to play I used to worry about rank, now I just play to practice. Sorry I'm bored and curious. I just here a lot of complaining about cheaters. Lol, we had one idiot on doacentral.com a while ago complaining about someone cheating and DOA, and everyones reaction was, "yes, the same scrub who's always been doing that bull ****, play in a private room and stop complaining." However, doa people are much more blunt and such.

Errrr, to me rank doesn't matter too much, but on H2 you have different playlist types...(i.e. snipers, swat, team slayer) and sometimes you want to play these playlist types without having to deal with all their other game settings. So, that's one reason I play ranked a lot. And running into modders, bridgers and stand-byers is completly annoying when you're just trying to have a good time and play with friends. You can only play so much team training before your ready to try something else...

Well what skywalker said to you before. Its turned more into a game for 13 yearolds. Not degrading anyone who is 13 or anything. Its just the maturity level isnt entirely high around that age. Although we do have 30 yearold grown *** men with wives and 2 yearold daughters who call any girl they get matched up against a fat ****. But that could be any game, not just halo.

No one who is a cheater thinks about actually getting better. They want the easy way out and cheat and have a rank that they think that proves that they are good. They figure 'hey i have a level 40 so everyone has to think im pretty much pro at the game." They just dont think that when they go up against someone actually better than them, beats them and they whine and complain and then go derank. Which also ruins the game for people. I mean halo and its matchmaking is just a mess.

One word: Competition.

Why play collegiate sports when you could play rec? Notoriety.

In Fighting games a lot of the time I hear people complaining about "cheap moves." It seems to be as bad as or considered as cheating by some.

Example: Using the same move over and over again. When I played DOA ultimate I'd hear people whining about "Omg you're so cheap! You can't do anything but use that move!" I never understood. DOA has a block button as well as a counter function. If someone is doing the same move over and over again, it's because it keeps working over and over. Learn to counter it. It should be even easier to counter it since you know what to expect!

Certain characters are considered "cheap" or "noobie" because they are easier to play or have really strong moves that aren't too hard to pull off. In DOA:U Ayane was considered the "cheap" character as far as I recall. So was the unlockable boss dude, Tengu I believe his name was. I kinda agree about Tengu though.

I know this has nothing to do with the question you answered.

And about ranks. I don't know about other people, but I like keeping track of my rank in games like Battlefield and other FPS. It helps me track how I'm improving and let me see what I need to change to get better. Comparing them to others can help to see where you should/want to be and set a goal (other than winning the round) to strive for.

Ranks (and detailed stats like those in Battlefield or even Halo) can even be a powerful tool for clans in prepairing for a clan match. Before a match you can do a little recon and check out the stats of the players in the clan you'll be up against. Find out who they are likely to put in the match and what guns/kits they play the most or are best with. With this information a leader can make an informed decision on who to play in the match that will exploit the other teams weaknesses while countering their strengths.

At least that's what I think about stats, and stat padders (as cheaters are known in Battlefield) ruin this. To me the number next to my name or rank I have isn't just a number or just a rank. It's something I've worked hard to achieve.

Not to mention it's a feature that came with the game. A game I paid for. Them ruining the leaderboards means they are ruining a feature I paid for.

We call these people scrubs, it is a belief of all high level players that the word "cheap" translates to "I'm too lazy to create a counter strategy or figure out at a way around it". I don't play with people who call my character or who I play with "cheap", that means they are just trash at the game.:) However, I use Kasumi, so it's just neverending the complaining about her.

But ranks and leaderboards are just trash, I don't understand! You find out how to improve by asking for constructive criticism of players that are better than you, not by electronically collected data! Bah!:p

*REMEMBER MOST OF THIS IS MY OWN OPINION*

i agree when i first got halo 2 i loved it since i kept hosting custom games with all my friends. Then once everyone found out about the matchmaking system it starting becoming lame. lol i liked halo 2 til they released the patch. Yes it may of fixed alot of glitches in the game but y mess with the games structure.

For example they toned down the dmg to duel wielding pistols for no reason it was perfect the way it is, now they are pretty much useless. Grenades are overpowered now i mean i dont mind that too much. To me the melee combat just got screwed up.

For me i hate matchmaking since everyone pretty has the motion sensor. Motion sensor is probably the cheapest thing on any game ooo lets see yep theres a guy behind that rock i cant see him but he is on my radar woot! lol.

Plus it took them like 2 years to finally add Team Swat not everyone likes shields.

To me i just cant w8 for halo 3 since Halo 1 is the game that made halo a hit and thats wut they are basing the online play off of. Plus on 360 no more modders woot!

Halo 2 is full of cheaters especially ones that make full use of all the glitches Halo 2 has to offer. That game is extremely good at making even the nicest person use foul language and get very angry. Even though I try to avoid Halo 2 I had a few games last night and well it wasn't a very nice experience.

sh!tty *** Windows...anyway, cheatin' is for the lame, the noobs, and the asses wit no life that care too much about a game. sure, it's fun to say ur friends suck (at my school, we had a Halo game day where someone brought Halo 2 and I own EVERYONE, and some of my friends hate it) but that's just for fun. some people take gamin' too far. I once heard some 12-year-old boy say "n!ggers suck at Halo", even though I owned his ***. it takes only a few dumbasses to ruin it for all. I went up to lvl. 27 in my first three days playin' on Xbox Live by myself, and lost it to noobs of all kinds. it's also sad how people even cheat in UNRANKED games. doesn't get much lower than that. I've also heard stuff like "the only thing girls r good for is f!ckin" of course, I said "which is y u'r still a virgin" (I can roast and hurt people's feelings; it's y my rep is so low). noobs will try to talk big sh!t on how girls can't play when it's only a game and I know some girls that will own my *** in Halo (PMS, plz, mercy:tomato: ). I stopped playin' matchmakin' cuz of the cheaters and start playin' wit some friends. now some mods r fun, such as the race track on Contaminent, but to use them in a game.......I won't I jinx it in a good way, but it's only a matter of time b4 people find a way to cheat on the 360. as my sayin' goes: Technology is too advanced for its own good. of course, Halo isn't all bad. ownin' ur friends is fun and when u match up wit legit people (ranked or unranked) is also fun too, but it's funny how some of the cheaters will say "calm down, dude, it's just a game." if it's just a game, y r u cheatin'? if the feedback system does anything (I don't think it does), then somethin' should at least be done about this. can't they develope a patch for the game? or y not use the TruSkill system? at least that's based on how well u perform, not if u win or lose. just like in Carbon. ur XP Level goes up even if u come in last. however, it goes up faster the better u do, but at least u can't be cheated in such a way that ur rank goes down.....However, I've personally have noticed a difference. I can at least play for a good 3 hours b4 bein' cheated...

hopefully, this will improve wit Halo 3......and the cheatin' won't start wit the MP demo that's set to come out in Spring

I dono dude. There werent many (if any) modders on xbox live untill Halo 2 came along... in my opinion the same will go for Halo 3. Once it comes out people will be more motivated to cheat, hence mods will get created.

Kasumi - There are similar glitches in Halo that nearly all the "pros" use, that are basically just exploits of bug's in the game. Most include faster reloading, or getting shots off faster than your opponent. For example: if you happen to be carrying a battle rifle and a secondary weapon, it is possible to cancel the reloading animation of the battle rifle creating a near "instant" reload. The most well known of these bugs is probably the "BXR", where with the battle rifle you melee your opponent (B), cancel the end of the melee animation (X), and finish off your opponent with the BR (R). If done correctly you can pretty much instantly kill your opponent. There are plenty of these glitches, but most require certain conditions that rare enough that most people dont mess with them, unless your really hardcore.

Ok, so it's same as fighting games, just Bungie hasn't figured out to get rid of all these tards who are breaking the game and making the competitive aspect of the game no fun online. Bungie: quit working with Tecmo on Spartan characters, and fix your game!:p
