I'll be honest. A few years back, I never thought a woman could scream like the guys in Bullet For My Valentine, Lamb of God, etc. HOWEVER! I was proven wrong when a buddy of mine told me to check out In This Moment. I did and my jaw just dropped. The singer is just that epic. I know she doesn't scream as much during live performances to reduce the risk of losing that voice, but when she does scream... it makes my heart melt. ;p

Oh, and another thing... I find it sexy when a woman starts headbanging. Just sayin'. ;)

Watch it. You won't regret it. :D

This is just my personal opinion but to me women and metal don't really work out. I prefer it be all guys or at least the singer. I'm not saying women have no place in metal and if it's something they want to do then go for it, just not a fan of it

I can't believe you think that Obsidian, I know we are all have our opinions but there are some great metal bands fronted by female singers/bass players/drummers/etc. Women and Metal do work out, for example Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil, Epica, Within Temptation, Picture Me Broken, the list goes on... And to be honest I don't think some guys measure up to these females in the metal business, and would fall short when compared to them.

But that's my opinion =)

Ditto. Me too. My friend used to be in a band, and they opened up for them once. Was a pretty glorious occasion.

Arch Enemy ^_^

I didn't even know they had a female singer until recently. Check out this video: I will live again (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4b4bX1WkcQ)

And if you know that song, or just listened to it, tell me ... I gotta know ... Does it remind anyone else of the theme song of the X-men cartoon? Just the melody around the chorus. It makes me so happy to listen to, haha ^^ [plays the song again]

Been playing this album almost every day recently :mvshock:

all them bands are ok, but you should check out Light This City. They have a great female vocalist and the music is solid, they broke up a couple years ago but they left 2 AWESOME albums in their wake.

Here is a small taste of the awesomeness that is Light This City: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H4SVRApGhM&feature=related

I liked the vocalist, but the band didn't bring any presence....

What about Flyleaf? I heard the singer screams.... I'm not much of a fan of that band but I guess it's another to add to the list

I'm really loving this thread :) Watched all the vids. Keep 'em coming!

Actually started searching for female fronted metal bands, but didn't come up with much. Most of them are gothic type bands (I don't know the exact subgenres). I did find this video by Sonic Syndicate that looked pretty good. The bass player is a girl with a cool style, I think. Link is here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t0FGyhB6C8) I might check out their music some time.

And then I came across the misheard lyrics video for Nightwish. If you want a good laugh, check this out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg5_mlQOsUQ) :)

She throws a few screams here and there, and they are good, but mostly Flyleaf does Alternative Rock, which for them is good

Jada Pinkett Smith (yes, Mrs. Will Smith, lol) fronts a metal band but I don't remember what it's called or if it's any good. :D

When I think of metal and women, Arch Enemy is definitely the first thing that comes to mind!

I've probably heard of a lot others, but never really looked into the bands, so I just automatically think they're all dudes >_>

Not really metal metal, but Guano Apes. Did NOT know that was a chick until I stumbled across one of their music vids and surprise! haha

Other females and metal (not like RAWR metal) but I love Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil <3 and Tarja Turunen from Nightwish

Oh I know, I wasn't attacking your opinion, I simply voiced my own thereafter.
No hard feelings :mvguitar:

No Offense: But that kind of thinking, is how most guys feel about women and gaming. Just because it is a male dominated scene doesn't mean the women can't work well in a certain area.

Arch Enemy if you're into the heavier stuff. Nightwish, Within Temptation if you're into more symphonic metal.

None taken... Tic taught me a lesson in the area of "Girls can game too"... I always knew you gals could, but... Damn. :mvclap::mvclap: for Tic. LOL

Anyway, back on topic. I honestly didn't know there were that many women in metal either. I'm gonna go start looking some bands up.

Arch Enemy really isn't that heavy... its melodic death metal.... but not that heavy

Well I see Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil keep getting mentioned. People have to step out of the mainstream media to find good music. I thought I'd step in to show something different.

These guys are Russian. The singer is a female and I guess you can say she yells, but she does it without trying to sound like a guy, thus you know it's a female. The music is heavier than Arch Enemy etc. The band is Arkona. Another good song by them is "Marena".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w628V9_r-Mk She also sings clean at 2:38. She has an amazing voice.

This band is somewhat known now. I used to talk with "Kitty" a long time ago. like 6 years ago or something. good band. She's gorgeous! lol

http://youtu.be/MIR-_-I_0wA

If you want some good metal bands, I can name some. Metal = my life. Except deathcore, grindcore or anything that ends in core. that's not music IMO

Personally I do not think a girl in metal works out. For some reason I really like IWABO but she screams better than some men so it makes sense. I have seen In This Moment live and I personally think she is terrible...

Ahh some great picks here. Within Temptation is definitely one of my all time favorites.

If you haven't before, check out The Iron Maidens. They're an Iron Maiden cover band (naturally), and the lead singer can sing with the best of them. It's a fantastic tribute to Dickinson. These girls are more metal than you'll ever be! XD

Also, although they're technically a joke band, Abnormality (famous for the terrible song Visions in Rock Band 2), has a female vocalist. And she can scream/growl really scary. It's nuts!

Oh yeaa, The Iron Maidens tribute band! They're pretty good, and I do love me my Maiden. Used to see them jam out at one of the recording studios I practice at.
