Hi so i recently bought a new tv and want to hook it up to my laptop so i can stream on Justin.tv. Ive never done this before so i have very limited knowledge on the whole subject. I know how to hook up the tv to the laptop but havnt bought the vga/hdmi cables for it yet. My question is once i have it hooked up is it just a matter of pressing "Go live" on Jtv and bobs your teapot? im sure theres more too it so thats where i hope some of you guys can fill in the blanks. As i said ive never done it before so even basic things might need mentioning like if i need a graphics card, or what ever i dont know. I think it would be cool streaming my online battlefield exploits with the Jtv community so if you can help do that, please feel free to do so. All advice welcome.

What are u streaming with? like are u streaming with Dazzle or HD Capture Card? Webcam? etc what?

You need Flash Media Encoder to help stream it.

http://community.justin.tv/mediawiki/index.php/Flash_Media_Encoder

You need also download this:
http://www.justin.tv/broadcast/adv_video_games

If your doing it from console u will see other options

I don't know what capture card u got or how u getting video so I'm guessing console. The sounds I can't say I never really got my sound work but once I get HD capture card I will figure it out.

This far I can help till u tell me what u streaming from

 ummm, haha ok bare with me here, basically what i have is my ps3 linked to my lcd via a hdmi, then im gonna hook my laptop up to the lcd with a vga cable and try to stream the picture on Jtv. I havnt a clue when it comes to graphics cards so i dont know if i need to buy a new one or if the current one in the laptop will do. SiS Mirage 3 graphics is the name of the graphics card in use atm. Initially im not looking for a great HD picture while streaming, im sure id have to purchase a better card for that.Has this info helped?

By the way i downloaded adobe flash media live encoder, i havnt hooked up the ps3 to the laptop yet and tested it, coz i havnt bought the vga cable, but when i opened the flash programme it gave me this message "flash media live encoder requires a video capture device to be connected and properly installed" so im guessing im gonna have to buy one of those eh...

Yea I tried recording gameplay before with a Dazzle, way too much tinkering with ssettings and after hours wasted with only a choppy audio-less video to show for it I gave up. :(

Yea Black You need Capture Card to make the Flash Media Encoder to work so not only u missing the VGA cord, but ur missing the most important to record and that Capture Card.

If your trying record in Standard Definition: Get Dazzle

If you trying record in High Definition: (It pretty Pricey) http://www.buy.com/prod/avermedia-avertv-hd-dvr-video-capture-card/q/sellerid/11408470/loc/111/212576898.html

Yea I know The HD Capture are pretty expensive, but it only if you have HD TV unless u want record in SD then get dazzle they are cheap in that department.

From what I know you don't need worry about Graphic Card to record. From my knowledge because I was able to record from Dazzle on my laptop that I have had for over 3 years and I never change Graphic Card(It not like I can because it Laptop)

And Disco Reject I was able to Stream from Dazzle with the Pinnacle Program that was giving with Dazzle. All you had to do was connect Dazzle to Ps3 have it on and go site where say go Live and it there simple as 1,2,3 but I learn that from youtube.

It not easy to stream so youtube is best friend for knowledge.

I use a dvd recorder for now. But i'm going to stream live with my webcam on my laptop or from my Android phone. Both are decent quality imo.

i have a blackmagic design intensity pro 1080p cap card!!!!it was 200 bucks but it has hdmi in and out so you can run hdmi to computer and out back to tv with no lag! also has a dongle for component. comes with recording software and records in a few different extensions. FME live is used to stream to jtv!
