View Full Version : Just Got The Wii!!!!

Woot!!! This morning at 12:01AM I purchased a Wii. I was the second person in line, Darren was third(my fiancé) and I was also waiting with Chicken and Stratford PMS.
We left home at about 11AM on the 18th and went straight to the Wal-Mart near our house. I have to tell you I meet some of the funniest and coolest people in that line. All the employees and all the other people were joking, talking about games, buying each other food and having a really great time.
Everything was organized and orderly and done with everyone's safety in mind. They received about 26 Wii's and about 40 people were in line, although after the first 10 everyone was told that there were a minimum of 10 systems. If someone's credit card didn't work they had until the final person in line to fix the problem or the next person in line would take their place.
At about 11pm they put stickers on us and gave us a matching coupon and walked us into the Wal-Mart Layaway section where everything was laid out for us to see. All transactions needed to be at one time. So if I wanted a Classic controller, a game, and a system it could be purchased at one time to avoid complications with credit cards and so on. For instance if you purchase 200 bucks worth of stuff, then make another transaction of about 200, your bank may become suspctions, think your card is stolen and not let that transaction go through. So our Wal-Mart wanted to avoid that.
Btw, it was chilly out but overall the weather was nice in Orlando. Anyway, we watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail on Strats laptop, shared a few dirty jokes, the students next to us who were in the top 10 were waiting in line and watching the football game(they're hoping Michigan wins, hehe),had a great convo with some nice English gentleman about games and how they sadly have to wait a year till the Wii is released over there. Then they brought us some soda and crisps(chips). Super nice people. Played a few rounds of Mario Kart, lol with no CPU's as well as New Super Mario mini games. Everyone was really nice, lol and those students were actually in the same line as their English teacher who was about 20th or so. Lucky for them he got a Wii, since they have an English test on Monday. Sad teacher+Annoyed teacher=bad grade, hehe.
Anyway, here are a few pics. Oh, and out of 40 or so ppl in line, only one wanted to sell his system(his PS3 was going for 5,000 on Ebay) and we convinced him not to. We told him about the retro game downloads and I think that kinda changed his mind. He also happened to be number one. LoL, he's heading over to Circuit City right now to see if he can buy one to sell and another to keep.
So right now Darren and I have hooked everything up and our Wii called, "Gyps & Dac", is updating and the WiFi thing was a breeze. Darren made a Wii that looked surprisingly looked a lot like him and I'm about to make mine after it's done updating. Oh, yeah and I'm planning on play a little Zelda too.
WOOTWOOT!!!
Overall we had a great time and it was an awesome experience.

Hehe, finally finished updating. So much fun and the music it plays in the background is really soothing. So far the Opera browser, Forcast and News channel service isn't up yet. But it's been fun playing with my pics, and Mii(your little Wii Character you can take with you to another friends Wii or can travel on it's own to their Wii's while the console is "off")
Haven't played Zelda or WiiSports yet. We're gonna get something to eat. Btw, Aliki PMS(my bed buddy) sent me this on my cell phone while I was in line:

I will wait until they put the right price on the Wii as it only offers a different approach on how games are played its a complete rip off. I have money since I just recently paid over $200 for a set of in-ear earphones so money aint a problem but its a problem when someone comes to me with a peice of bread asking for $10...Err yeah that makes a lot of sense right? No.
I hear next year it will have a built in dvd player, and even then I will want them to knock around $50 off the price.
The Xbox 1 is still better overall than the Wii and its cheaper.
Dont get me wrong I want one of them Wii's but no way am I paying that.

OMG
we stood in line at toys r us this morning for 4 hours in 35 degree weather....the manager came out and gave us tickets, said come back at 10, he didnt want us to get sick, and leave. so we left!!! and came back (i live 1 block from T-r-U...) came back at 9:45 (they opened at 10) and we got our Wii!!!!!!! only 4 hour wait. not so bad... and now we're home playing the sports and zelda... this system is pretty freakin sweet

Well i pre-ordered zelda @ amazon and have had it sience nov 17th then i called nintendo
@ 1-800-255-3700 and ordered the component cables(should have those before dec 1st.
Lastly i went to some stores @ 11:40ish and was really surprised how many people were already there. Keep in mind just a few hours before OSU beat MICHIGAN and it was crazy
so i was hopeing most people would be partying/too drunk to pose any problem.
I ended up @ wal-mart where even though i didn't get a wii they gave out rain-checks and won't sell wii to the public until they're done filling them. I'm inpressed anyone would give out a raincheck on a hot ticket like wii. Appearentlly they did that for ps-3 as well.
After all the crap i've heard wal-mart do they actuially gone and done something really cool. Hopefully in the next 48 hrs i'll have my wii.
After standing in line i did buy second opion and monster 4x4 with the $19.99 wheel shell
wiimote housing included free. Instead of holding it like a rectangular nes pad
and turning it left/right the wiimote snaps in the wheel and you can hold a small ,but far more comfortable wii shell on any driving game. I should be getting red steel on tues.
in the absance of coruption i want to experience a shooter with my numchuck in my right hand while my wiimote will be in my left-the world's first SOUTHPAW FRIENDLY system.
Best of all i don't need to modify any controllers to play as a lefty,just switch hands.
The sensor bar won't care it'll still read it exactlly the same whichever hand you use:)

soooooooooo... you know that nifty little wrist band that comes on the wii-mote? sooo, w/ the nunchuck, it's kinda irritating, so i took it off, figuring i was a big girl and could do it. annnnd, about 2 hours into the wii-sports, playing tennis, it slipped out of my hands and into the wall about 8 feet away. to say the least the wii-motes are definitely durable. :o
moral of the story... WEAR YOUR WRISTBAND!!!!

No that is not it- Nintnedo attracts a different type of crowd and supplied fans better than Sony.
I am not dissing or flaming just addressing that the Wii IS in demand! :D

I was hoping to get a Black Wii, but did a little research and find out they weren't coming out with any other colors of Wii...and by then it was too late to reserve a Wii... :mad:
One of the teachers at my school has the Wii, and I don't! Something wrong with that :confused: Oh well, hopefully my GameStop gets more Wiis by...tomorrow or Thursday-in time for Thanksgiving so my friends and I will have something else to do besides GoW LAN. Oh well-have fun with your new Wii. :)

I'm bummed that I couldn't afford one. I was going to wait with my friend in line overnight, but decided that it wouldn't help me get over being sick if I stood outside all night in 30's degree weather.
Also, if I could have afforded one, I would have gone no matter how sick.

I had a preorder on a Wii, but I canceled it when I realized that hardly any of the release-games appealed to me. Never had a Nintendo as a child, so Zelda and Mario doesn't have the same appeal.

I got my wii from UPS this afternoon, my only thing I feel sad is that they are selling the HD component cable separate and will not be around in till December 1st.
You have the freedom not to make everyone mad, or I have to clean up the mess, and I hate cleaning! (well actually its satisifying sometimes, but i'd rather be gaming so there!)
I can now just point to the forum rules and say if ya don't comply with them not my responsibility - you had to at least see them before posting.
Vball thats a good idea, i'mma see if i can finagle it from my parents for xmas, the chances are next to none though cause well....my parents aren't exactly supportive of gaming, although my mom did fall in love with my DS Lite.
And by HD cid you mean 480P, not really high def :p

DVD quality, yeah only could they put in HD 1080i. Still having a blast with it. Just waiting tomorrow and seeing if I can hang in monkey ball while having a few beers.

Sorry I haven't updated, I'm baby-sitting some pets for a friend and of course playing. Zelda is a lot of fun and lol lazy gamer that I am I barely move, my hands are on my lap and really the only time my wrists move are to take out my sword, slash, or throw a rock and you don't have to make an significant movement, which is pretty sweet. It felt good riding on my faithful horsey Epona again, although I called her Sobe(I was really thirsty at the time). Anyway, I wrote down my Wii code, but lol I don't know where I put the paper. I'll post it today.
Rip, thanks for taking care of that, he took that a bit too far.
Btw, the Wii licking picture(and thanks for that witty observation Raevn) is a spoof of the PSP licking picture of a model licking her PSP. She got a job at IGN I think it was, because of it. She also said the DS would never succeed it was to clunky and the wifi think sucked because your playing with 13 year olds, thus PSP licking. I think she can firmly insert her big feet into her big mouth now. Hehe, IGN can expect a pic very soon of DS Lite licking, hehe.
I'll update more once I come back from my mini vacation.

As with the PS3 give it a week or 2 and everyone will be bored stiff with it, what gets me is the visuals on the Cube 2 or Wii as its supposed to be called is visually well not so great and the ONLY reason I want one cos it looks nice and it has Dragonball Z on it.

well, the office-wii just arrived and i havent been able to put it down since. I think i might smuggle it out of my gamers-vault in my office and take it with me tonight when i go back to louisville to see the family till sunday, mwahahaha
cant wait to get my own, but im going to hold off now cause it looks like my sister might be buying me one for xmas, woot!

As with the PS3 give it a week or 2 and everyone will be bored stiff with it, what gets me is the visuals on the Cube 2 or Wii as its supposed to be called is visually well not so great and the ONLY reason I want one cos it looks nice and it has Dragonball Z on it.
I fail to see how this crap is relevant in a Wii thread.

Supposed to be called? It's the Wii, that's it's name, get used to it! And honestly, I think those are pretty crappy reasons to buy a console. If you don't like it, fine don't buy it. I'm sure Nintendo won't be heartbroken. :p

I went to the Wii launch at Citywalk and it was a ton of fun! I finally plugged in my Wii on Thanksgiving, and it was so cute because my parents that never game, really got into the Wii sports. And now they want one for xmas!

LoL, Saiyan, Nintendo was never going for hardcore graphics with the Wii, it came out of their own mouth and everyone knows they're not trying to compete with 360 or PS3 in the graphics department. Their systems have always been about pushing the games and now about making gaming open to all ages and skill levels.
And the graphics are just about on the same level as Xbox graphics. Not bad for a small little console.
And lol, I doubt anyone is going to be bored with something that cost them about 260-up(Wii) or 600-up(PS3), especially if there are plenty of great games out there to keep people entertained. As far as the games, Wii has a ton of great ones to keep people busy including Classic games currently available for download.
Also soon, WiiConnect24 will be up, and we'll see how they're going to implement DS Lite wifi into games.....so I see plenty of stuff in store for the Wii:)
