Hey guys, I just recently started playing WoW and I was pleasantly surprised at what I found. Since I began playing I bought all the expansions and am enjoying it even more... That is until I had played for about a week. Since then, I have not met anyone to play with on there and seem to have hit a wall. Just was curious if you guys had any advice for a noob like me (:P) to get started again and have the most fun as possible.

Thanks :)

I had just started playing WoW again, albeit on a 10-day trial. I've bought and played the game before but I wanted to see if it was worth getting abck into again. I'm a total noob at it, no idea about some of the technical jargon that I hear on here. Still I kinda like the game but I just spend most of my time having to solo things cos I don't know who plays on what servers etc.

It's got everything WoW does but IMO better. It has world events and world bosses that WoW no longer has. The world PvP (if you enjoy that sort of thing which i do :P) is incredibly fun. Graphically it has a more realistic feel than WoW's cartoony feel which i really like. The arrange of customization topels WoW in all aspects, you can buy dye and color your gear, the talent trees and specs are all different and theres never just ONE way you should do something like WoW currently is. It's all preference but all those things i just exampled turned me on towards it.

Oh and the PvP is just a blast (battlegrounds aka warfronts)

So same as WoW? nifty.

it's an MMO, so yes. However if you had pre-ordered it you got to opt-in to a subscription every 6 months for 59.99$, which is only 10$ per month, which was really nice

Rift seems more like a Fad IMO People always migrate back to WoW after a time. You might look into making some characters on the PMS/H2O servers? Meet some people from here there. On a side note I'll be buying SW:TOR when it comes out too. And on a side side note I play WoW too.

I'm getting SW:TOR when it comes out and I play WoW too. I think Rift will rival WoW (WoW community doesn't agree lol) I haven't played Rift so I can't say if it's better or worse than WoW but at the same time I'm not gonna be the kid that says "OMG WoW is liek teh bestes!"

nah WoW got old cause it all cata did was change a few questing zones. in Rift its neatly polished and fun its like Vanilla WoW in a sence but still got a different game feel. im getting SWTOR also but thats not supposed to come out till the end of this year.

I know a bunch of people who have canceled their wow subscriptions for Rift, me including if i can grow a pair and drop raiding x.x, just like raiding too much

I dunno I heard people say the same thing about WarHammer for the first few months it was out. I'm not saying "wow is the bestest" but I also don't think rift is a realistic rival just yet. If in 2 years people still have that opinion and it's community grows rather than shrinks I'll believe it.

Well yeah I didn't mean as soon as Rift comes out it's gonna get 20 million players but in a few years I think it will surpass WoW

PMS Dioscuri
03-13-2011, 04:06 AM
I don't know. If it does great! But I wont believe it till I see it just because WoW has been such a monster in the industry devouring all other MMO's in it's path for so many years. If I had a nickel for every time some one has said that about all the new MMO's that have come out since WOW but didn't pan out I'd probably have about 25$

WoW is getting old, great game inde_ed. . . the lifespan of that game is pretty amazing considering its a MMO which can get pretty repetitive.. welll i guess most games are repetitive. thumbs up for wow having a solid community & gaming life time. blizzard is pretty epic.

Put in Perspective Rift probably wont ever come close to lasting as long as Wow. the community will probably never be as big. But us as Gamers need new material & i can understand why a spark of new MMo'ers would drop WoW subs' to play rift.

I have just been playing WoW for too long... 5 years now? And my boyfriend has been playing it since Vanilla... so we're both ready to leave WoW and move onto something else... it might be those who have been on WoW for so long that they're also ready to move on to something else, like Rift. I am just finding something to do until Star wars comes out ^_^ But I do like Rift because it still has some concepts of WoW in it, but in a different aspect because you do get that variety of specs to build on your own and you get to join other groups to down Rift mobs! It's just a fun and different game.. I was just addicted to WoW too much because there wasn't anything else to become addicted to.

What's the spec requirements like for Rift? I mean I have a pretty crappy PC by today's standards but I can run WoW, Age of Conan etc. Graphics card is dying. I just don't want to go out and buy the game, should I decide to, to find out that it's not gonna work well.

Totally agree with this whole statement 100%. When I see Rift, I am not going to lie I just see a better graphical WoW... Everything else from the game looks exactly like WoW, aside from the fact there's about 20+ combos for classes/race. I definitely will get SW:TOR when it drops but nothing will really push me from WoW when everything else that's out or is coming out whether or not it's free or ptp looks almost like a clone, with just upgraded graphics or maybe snippets of WoW, like the World Events/Bosses like WoW use to have.

Also, may seem like a bash but, not my intention. I feel Rift is going to be like Aion... Hot at first but fizzle out soon. The only game that could pace WoW IMO right now would be FFIVX if they ever decide to fix the game and make it a close replica to FFXI.

Rift's spec requirements are a bit higher than WoW's but not by a lot. Rift made there specs low to compete with WoW.

lol chode wtf out of nowhere

yeah, it does have things WoW USED to have, and that's the point, for players like myself who never got to enjoy world bosses, or enjoy world PvP to its full extent, it is an amazing game. WoW is completely boring, or more to the point, cataclysm was a complete let down, i've finished everything the expansion has to offer (except 11 more heroic bosses but meh), all the factions exalted, all the gear i could possibly need, all the gold i could want from the inflated first release prices. And it only took me 2-3 months, if that. Rift if anything is a nice buffer from the PoS boring WoW, to the world of star wars, and if it succeeds, well more power to me. I've always wanted to start a good MMO from the beginning like i never got to, to experience what WoW USED to have, and Rift does exactly that.

for a more seasoned vanilla wow player i can see the attraction fade, but if world bosses and a new beginning is what vanilla players were attracted to with wow, why not do it all again.

on a side note, i officially froze my wow account woot woot :P

The only thing that will kill WoW imo is when blizz decides to do something with that titan project. Also i think WoW should do what EQ did and come out with a classic server i think that would bring some old players back.

They need to "uneasy mode" the game if you know what I mean... I have only played since Wrath release and honestly the games only gotten more simple since then. ANd making gold is a joke cause everything is super easy to farm and sell and make easy cash on, I do agree with you Skywalker I want a fresh MMO but it seems new RPGs with possible long life come out when I start getting deep into the mold of a game i'm on... and Criptic that's if Blizzard ever gets the titan project full rolling... I mean it's been what 10 years+ for Diablo 3 and it took them almost the same if not longer for SC2? ANd what about the fabled SC:Ghost that they took 5 years on then scrapped it then it was rumored to be re done and then it got scrapped again... Blizzard is an amazing company but they take forever to do anything it seems lol... Also, ohi2u Luke! :D

I agree like Warhammer, like Aion, its hard to beat WOW as its always evolving however I wont hate the day another MMO will take over, as I will be on that MMO.

I love WoW, and I have to say Rift was a GREAT breath of fresh air. It felt like I was back at classic WoW, but better. There's just some sense of exploration and difficulty that was brought back when I played it, and although I unsubbed after the free month and a week of game time, I still think Rift is worth trying.

The only thing that keeps me chained to WoW right now (after playing for 6 years) is the raiding and my best-RL friend still plays it religiously now (i got him addicted, he only got on board at the end of BC), despite us both trying Rift out together. I would love to see Rift evolve and become another great MMO community with a lifetime like WoW, but right now, WoW is still the ancient MMO monster in the gaming world and will be until the day Blizzard finally says "Enough is enough!" or they REALLY screw up to make droves of subscribers leave...

Maybe I will resurrect my subscription if I could drag my RL friend back or (idk if this is offered) if I could transfer my character to one of the PMS/H2O servers...because I chose a server on RIFT just as badly as I did on WoW (aka PvP server playing as the minority faction)

Haha, I'd agree if only my best friend that still plays wasn't maining as a DK...although our current raid make-up will make us have 3 battle rezs, since we just switched in a boomkin druid into the team, along with our resto druid. I will probably lose more interest if they can't find a better way to make my Ret Pally fun though, because it is dawning on me the simplicity of the spec being so reliant on procs and such...This is probably also why I have my entire character list full of alts...If my patience could hold to see what 4.2 will eventually bring, maybe blizz could keep my sub money for just a bit longer...time will tell.
