View Full Version : Is Halo worth REACHing for?

I feel like I know the answer to this question before I even begin knowing the community that we have here. But, is Halo: Reach worth getting? I used to play 2 & 3 online (although admittedly not at a pro level) so I know the game style but just wondered whether I should get the latest one. One thing I'm sceptical about is the introduction of jet-packs..does it change the dynamic of the game that much more than previous ones? Anyway yeah so I may yet get it but I just want to know from those that have played it what the good and bad bits are from your experience.

Over all I feel it is a very good game. Only thing that I dont like is that some people abuse the special abilities like armor lock to the point where it gets annoying and you don't wanna play those kids anymore but all you have to do then is back out and avoid that player. Most don't use jet packs unless it's one of the challenges. The campaign is solid and one of my favorites next to ODST of course. The daily and weekly challenges make it a lot easier to level up and your level can never go down. It's based on your dedication to the game more than skill like the last few games but of course the better you do the more exp you get. I'd say get it and you'll most likely love it. My only real problem is balancing time between Halo and Call of Duty. haha

Cheers man. I hear you on the Call of Duty thing cos that's what I'm spending my time on lately. One thing...what the hell is Armour Lock? Not heard about that.

Armor lock basically the play gets on one knee punches the ground and a blue force field goes around their body for a short time where no one can hurt them with anything. Even if you try to hit them with a vehicle it will destroy the vehicle.

its an ability where you cant move or be hurt for a short period of time. But if you play MLG or Arena theres no armor lock or abilitys except sprint evade or jet pack

WTF! That doesn't sound good. I know that there used to be bubble that shielded you from some stuff but not everything. I thought this was Halo not Sonic or Mario with their level of invicibility. I still feel like I might get the game but yeah Jump Guy that would annoy me too.

TBH I'd say no to it Nijistu. That is unless you are buying it to play with friends that have it.
I bought Reach first day of Launch. Disliked it ALOT. Sold it within the first week. Got a nice £30 for it from HMV :mvreallyhappy:
I played Halo 1 and Halo 2 religiously! But when Halo 3 came out...all that came to mind was are we for real here? Halo Reach, for me the campaign wasn't very good at all, rather weak imo. The multiplayer, possibly because I only played it the first week it came out, just wasn't my cup of tea. It just seemed like a more ridiculous carry on from Halo 3. And no I'm not talking about realism, I'm talking about it just being plain stupid IMO :/
Not dissing on Halo here as I loved the first two and did still like the third one. But I just wouldn't recommend anyone to buy Reach tbh.

Halo reach has a solid multiplayer platform and community, it hasnt got a rating system really. Only postgame rating system and leagues. Campaign is nothing special, but you can tell bungie wanted to make it a popular multiplayer game.
Halo reach is the most played game on xbox live.

... IMO, people have different tastes. Some agree that reach is worth it and some disagree. All I know is that it depends on the person trying to buy it. Really.
I'd still say that you should get it.

I just seen Reach in Grainger Games for £20 pre-owned..that seems reasonable enough that it might be worth picking up. Can't get it right this second but in a couple weeks I might. Even if I end up not liking it there's not much lost.

I was looking through some stuff on Waypoint last night (Red vs Blue) and found a couple videos of Reach's Forge tool. I rememeber building levels on H3 but this one looked way better. I see the Forge being my favourite part of the game in much the same way as the theatre mode is on Black-Ops. Although I gotta say that I'd probably prefer playing H2 or H3 by the sounds of things.
Is the Forge really as good as the videos suggest?

When I first started playing Reach, I disliked it because it was so different from Halo 2 & Halo 3, (that's the point, why make the same game??) The more I played it, the more I began to understand the mechanics, what to do if someone is using an armor ability. Now I cant set the game down. I really like it. & Forge is amazing.
Last but not least
Grifball is EPIC.
Rent it or borrow it from someone before you buy it.

i felt pretty much the same way. reach is different. it is by FAR more frustrating then h3. honestly though after playing reach for about 2 weeks since coming back to xbox im slowly growing a Love for it. its seeping its way into my hollow heart. lol but really of course nothing will ever take the place of halo3. but after playing and focusing on reach you will realize how slow halo3 feels when switching back to it. plus its where the community is and even if you want to play three, honestly believe its a better game. it will never be the same. take COD4 for example. best call of duty hands down. as of now, worst community :thumb down

I love 3 and I still play both, but for me I won't stagnate on a previous title if the current one is equally if not better. Let's be honest though, Reach is better than 3.

no
and if we're gonna be truly honest with each other, CE is by far the best, and each sequel has gotten worse and worse.

if you wanna be honest why not say you suck at the game and thats why you dont like it Halo 2 was the best because it was the first halo with online. Just cause your not good at the online dosent make the game bad it means the games not for you. you dont see me saying Street fighters bad because im bad at it.
