Thoughts? Are you guys a fan of the new hip hop with electronic beats? Its all over the radio nowadays... To be honest, I goto nightclubs quite often, so I love electronic music, so I dont really mind it. Although I do enjoy some old school hip hop as well, and the new stuff is kinda... Embarrassing to everything that hip hop stood for. Its like hip pop... Radio rap.

Depends on what the beat is. I love the diversity, but it isn't the beats I don't like about hip hop now, or mainstream hip hop. It's artist like lil wayne and so on that I can't stand!!!

ehh.. I haven't really been the biggest fan of hip hop in general but it's honestly getting kind of annoying and musical talent has gone out the door.. at least with all this mainstream nonsense - with the exception of a few. It's like, you don't even have a band anymore. You just sing along with synthetic music..

It does sound kind of cool and catchy though, but not when a lot of artists are doing it..

Who all do you guys listen to anyways?

I listen to Jack Johnson, MGMT, Passion Pit, 30 Seconds to Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Nirvana, Mars Volta, Gorillaz etc.. I don't completely despise hip hop. It's good for clubs/parties

The Mars Volta used to be my ******* FAVORITE band in high school, haha. I listen to Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Waka Flocka Flame, Chris Brown, etc. for rap. And for electronic, I like DEADMAU5, Armin Van Buuren, Magnetic Man, Skrillex, Basement Jaxx, Swedish House Mafia, etc. Alot of people hate it, alot of people like it. I dont really care, Im not opposed to any genre of music other than country, haha. I like rap and electro cause it sounds good in my car with the subs. :D

Curren$sy is good. He has another mixtape coming out soon. I love Jay electronica, Kidz in the hall, thr33zy mcfly, and so on. I also love How to Destroy Angels and Nine inch nails. Yes I even listen to country ahhaa.

I listen to country too xD well not extreme country, like all they sing about are tractors with heavy southern accents lol I'm not opposed to other genres, I just have preferences.

Hip hop songs are good if I'm in the mood for something hoppin with bass :D

Yeh I get picky with some songs in hip hop. Like I get tired of hearing some of the subjects they sing about.

I like tractors and I have a southern accent. What are you trying to say?!?!?! ahahaha just kidding.

Curren$y is sooo good. And I had no idea, I'll be sure to check it out aha. Jay Electronica is pretty rad.
And LOL, my cousin listens to country. She had me liking it a few years back. :/ LOL, I just don't dig it anymore. No offense to anyone who does, though. :P

I'm a bit of a Hip-Hop fiend...my favourite genre of music. I do listen to all sorts of other stuff though; like indie (Kasabian, Muse and Gorrilaz), Electronic (Chemical Brothers, Pendulum and Prodigy) and even Classical music. My favourite artist is Aesop Rock, a rapper from NY with intelligent lyrics and beats. But I do listen to Jay-Z, Cypress Hill, Wu-Tang, Eminem, Dilated Peoples, The Pharcyde and many many more.

I'm guessing by electronic beats in Hip-Hop you're talking along the lines of Black Eyed Peas etc. I'm not a fan of them but I agree that when I go clubbing it's better than most of the other ****. I'll give some credit to Kanye West on that kind of style. I love my Hip-Hop to have a classical vibe to them, violins and other strings in the beat.

Jay Electronica was my favorite... Somewhat still is, but him releasing an album is almost like waiting on Dre's Detox album ahaha.

unlike most people, mainstream for me is some of the most annoying $*** out there. people like lil wayne and eminem are some of the ones i just cannot stand. lil wayne doesnt even rap and when he tries... its wack as hell. eminem is sorta the same thing cept the dude just yells too damn much. basically when it comes to mainstream i always say "if it plays on MTV then its wack". Now granted some songs are ok (not any from those 2 fools mentioned above) but majority of the time its just a 1 hit wonder and then the artists cave in to the gimmicks of others or just die out.

as for the beats, ive also noticed that some are getting a little techno-ish but again thats the mainstream people doing that. some of the better up and coming artist actually have better beats or "mod" some of these mainstream beats into something thats worth listening to.

Cool, I'll check him out.

And I have nothing against mainstream music. Im no fan of bubblegum pop or anything, but I really don't mind mainstream hip hop as well as old school and underground hip hop. Like I'm one of the only ones in my circle of friends that listens to (or even knows who they are) A Tribe Called Quest.

The stuff on the radio doesn't do the genre justice. you just have to know where to look for the new stuff :]

This new era of hip hop is just a wrapper (excuse the pun) for true hip hop, I live in Detroit and hip hop and rap are still at their prime, yes they may have adapted a little bit... but freestyle is still freestyle... True hip hop still speaks about hard times and aspiring to be more... All the electronic hip hop beats want to do is pump people up and get people to party
