Scanner Problem

I have an Epson NX410 series Printer/Scanner. The problem I'm having is that when I'm trying to scan photo's, the pictures are coming out extremely scratched & grainy.

Is there a fix to this? Are there any options I should consider to bypass it's crappyness? Or do I need to buy a new scanner?

Do you have the correct drivers installed into the computer?

I'm not sure, but I am able to scan pictures. They just seem too come out in different filters though. Filter meaning: Blocks, stripes and scratches.

Would I just need to update the scanner to the correct drivers? I'm sure I can find them on the epson website.
