So here is the situation. A few days ago I upgraded from Windows XP Professional, to Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade. All of that was fine. When I downloaded all of my steam games on my new OS and tested them out, I got this in my console.... 67.135.39.147:27024:corrupted packet 6109 at 6106
67.135.39.147:27024:corrupted packet 6162 at 6159

67.135.39.147:27024:corrupted packet 6237 at 6234
67.135.39.147:27024:corrupted packet 6240 at 6234
67.135.39.147:27024:corrupted packet 6243 at 6234
67.135.39.147:27024:corrupted packet 6246 at 6234
67.135.39.147:27024:corrupted packet 6251 at 6248

This happened to all of my steam games that I downloaded. So I decided to downgrade back to Windows XP Professional to see if it was the fact that my computer couldn't run Windows 7 and guess what... IT STILL DID THE SAME THING!!! Now this morning, I did a test on TF2 and whenever I'm in a large group of people was when I got the corrupted packet spam on my console. Then I was thinking that before I did all of this, I had my video settings on low but I dont remember what some of the settings were. I play in windows by the way, because its less laggy that way. Anyway, when I loaded into a server, a small box appeared on my screen on the left hand side showing the download,my stats and the map the server was hosting (I hope some of you understand what I'm trying to say). Then I was in game and I did the testing process to see if I would get corrupted packets, and sure enough, still the same thing as it was on Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade... Within 10 minutes into the testing, my game screen started flicking off and on like it was about to explode. This sort of thing never happened before I upgraded to Windows 7 then downgraded to Windows XP. Now you may be wondering what my computer specs are, well here are some of my computer specs that I remember off the top of my head...
Processor:Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 2.00GB
System type: 32-bit Operating System
I also have a NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO Graphics Card as well.

Now I would like to know this. Does this problem have anything to do with my video settings because when I asked a friend of mine what his settings were on low, I did it and it ran fine, except for the fact that red errors started spamming on my console as well. Pretty much what I'm trying to say is... my computer is stupid... I don't have enough money to upgrade my computer parts at this time so I'm basically stuck with what I have for now. So I would like to know what I can do to fix all of this... I can't play any of my games without console spamming corrupted packets over and over again. Its everytime I go into a battle | large groups that I get this. When I had my settings on real low, I did get corrupted packets here and there, but not as bad as it is now. I would really really like some help! All help much appreciated!

Also, I would like to add that my computers firewall now ask me if I want to block a certian program or unblock a certian program.

I think your best bet right now would be to contact Steam for help with those errors. It might not be a problem with your PC, or the OS running on it, but more of a transfer problem between the Steam servers and your PC. One thing you could try, is (I'm assuming you're playing through a router) to remove the router from the network and go directly from the modem to your PC. This isn't a permanent fix, but it's just to see maybe if your router's causing issues.

Does this problem have anything to do with my video settings because when I asked a friend of mine what his settings were on low, I did it and it ran fine, except for the fact that red errors started spamming on my console as well.

The biggest thing here, is that if your games worked fine before you upgraded to Windows 7 then the problem probably isn't your video settings, or your hardware for that matter.

Also, I would like to add that my computers firewall now ask me if I want to block a certain program or unblock a certain program.

Welcome to the world of post-XP operating systems. Vista and 7 will ask you whether or not to block/unblock applications all the time. My rule of thumb when dealing with this: if you recognize the application (i.e. Steam, Skype, etc.) then hit unblock, and I think there's an option so that it doesn't ask you again, otherwise block the application. (Although if you're mindful of what you're installing onto your PC then 99% of the time you're just going to hit "Unblock")

My advice is to ditch the PC and get a Mac :) It's the best thing I've ever done and haven't looked back since!

That's blasphemy! (Just playin', lol)

I've got nothing against Macs, 'cept that they're extremely overpriced compared to a PC with the same hardware. Your paying for the brand, not the performance. Of course, the argument there is that OSX is like a bajillion* times faster than anything Microsoft has thrown out there.

*This isn't a fact, just from what I've been told.

No, MAC is the WORST program ever. And I have NeoWatch so maybe I blocked a port or something and maybe thats why its acting weird. Well I'm just going to do a clean installation of windows xp pro and see what happens.

I meant get an Apple. Mac is an operating system and a new way of life. :)

To add to the Mac vs PC debate, I bought a MacBook Pro for $1000. I've gone through countless PC laptops at prices ranging from $700-$1400 and they've all had countless problems after a few months. The reason Apple is so solid is because they make all of the parts in their computers...hence less conflicts and problems. It's not perfect but it's close. A PC is made up of parts from tons of different companies...hence more conflicts and more problems. The right hand has no clue what the left hand is doing.

OK done venting. Sorry to detour from the original issue of this thread. I hope you're computer is feeling better!

To add to the Mac vs PC debate,

I wasn't trying to start a Mac vs. PC debate, I was just kidding around about it :P (I'm indifferent about both, lol)

Back to the topic at hand however: Yeah, perhaps a clean install of Windows will fix your problems. It's hard to tell really, and I'm just grasping at straws.
