Huckleberry Finn is censored (http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_newsroom/20110104/en_yblog_newsroom/huck-finn-gets-some-changes) I'm curious of what you all thing about this. For my opinion I think it's wrong. As stated in the article it's like they are trying to erase racism. It shouldn't be censored. The book is a work of art. And children should see how far we have been with racism. It's absurd. That they would do such a thing. That's like having people remove God from the bible. Are they going to censor Moby **** next? ..............

It's bull, in my opinion.

It is bull. Literature not only tells a story, but it shows us ways and history of the time.

I feel like this is 1984.... You shouldn't change history, you shouldn't change literature. We as a nation need to stop "protecting" your "youth" and let them acknowledge literature as it is.

Furthermore, children have been reading Huck Finn since it's inception. Just as they've been reading books now only deemed appropriate for adults for hundreds of years. What's wrong with this is not that we wish to rewrite history, but it shows our ridiculous assumption that children should be kept in the dark about life as it was and is.

We have so-called children graduating college at age 22-23 without the know-how or wherewithal of life experience due to being sheltered. Whereas one hundred years ago you could marry and bare children by age by 13. Was it wrong then ~ no. Why is it wrong now? Societal change. But has our change been for our benefit? I don't think so.

The true ignorance here isn't the words they seek to change in this classic novel, but our need as a society to forget our darkest days and bleakest hours, to forget our history and deny our differences ~ to pretend that everything has always been hearts and roses.... We cannot go forward as a nation until we acknowledge where we've been.

It's ridiculous. I'm against any form of censorship, unless it's DIRECTLY inciting violence.

This is a new generation of life, so I'd like to honorably say that we [Or a handful] of people are different than those times.

I'd also like to point out that if I was a father I wouldn't want my son or daughter to be exposed to corruption. Even if it is inevitable, I'd like to know that I would be a responsible Dad to not allow my kids to read it.

However, if I were to read it to them then I would censor the words with something more appropriate. I honestly don't really care about the lawsuit that happened, as it doesn't affect me.

But if I ever have kids of my own one day, then I'll take the Paragon choice instead of using that language in front of my children.

Sheltering your kids from the real world only hinders them. If you can't take responsibility as a parent and teach them about the world (be it about sex, manners, "bad" words, ect..), someone/something else will. I respect the right of parents to keep the book away from their kids, but I honestly think it's more of a renegade choice.

The U. S. Constitution directly incites violence. I'm sorry I cannot find the direct quote, but essentially Jefferson states that any government not run by the people should be destroyed. Not fixed, mind you. Destroyed. People need to take more responsibility for themselves.
