Hey guys and girls, just thought I would let you know there is group out to fight for gamer's rights: ECA:

The Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA) is the new non-profit
membership organization that we recently launched which represents gamers in
much the same way that the ESA does publishers, or the IGDA does developers.

"Today, more than ever before, gamers need to stand together to defend against political activity that is threatening the creation and publishing of video games. On behalf of the gaming community, the ECA lobbies legislators directly as well as launching grassroots digital initiatives to preserve our rights as gamers."

looks like a good thing to me. seriously, for properly educated and morally taught kids, violent games do not induce violent behavior. oops, sorry, was off on my own rant there :) thanks for posting it up

Rant all you want, I agree with ya.

Glad to see videogames are begining to become more mainstream, and therefore more accepted in the eyes of politicians and the unknowing public.

Ummm, This is a lobbying group and although I feel the injustice of the scapegoating of gamers, I am still weary of joining a lobbying group after studying politics for 3 years.

Lobby groups and PACs are an important way for us to make a difference, as they unify our voice to go in and battle laws and politicians. Without someone organizing and putting our efforts together, our voice would just get lost amidst all the other issues. Sure, it cost $20 a year to be a part of it, but every organization needs funding to make a difference. How else do you think they would get funding for the paper to send letters, staff to get petitions signed, people to organize the whole thing. I am a member, as I believe it is my duty to try to aid gamers everywhere. Organizations like this, or any others like the IGDA & ESA, all help get people involved in serving their communities from more then just a consumer standpoint :)

After studying politics, you of all people should then be aware of the impact lobby groups can have...and not shy away from them if they support something you are passionate about. I once went door-to-door for an entire summer lobbing for Unversial Healthcare and getting donations for the PAC I worked for. Did we ever get it? Nope, but I felt good that I at least tried to help with something I believe in! :p

Could this be a first step towards those players unions that would be so beneficial to the pros? I could see a lot of good come out of this type of thing, hopefully it works out.

Player's unions would be a HUGE benefit - I have run into so many "poser" gamers that claim to be part of a clan [when they are not] or take a high profile gamertag [like FATAL1TY] and try to make it their own.

I will def be joining. It never hurts to have another voice out there for us.

The power of lobby groups is well documented. Lobbyists control alot of what gets passed through and have worked hard to push their agendas. This is a great idea and I will be joining in order to make the gaming world a better place all!!

so uh, I got the email snake sent out for Twin about being able to sign up for free (well, 1 penny) however when I did... it looks like they charged me anyways for 19.99... that happen to anyone else?

normally i wouldn't really care, but I did it from my card on my secondary account, not my main one, so it only had 10 bucks in it to begin with.. so now I have a 35 dollar over draft charge :(
