I was just reading up about him (had an interest in him since "V for Vendetta" (awesome movie)). Pretty interesting (and gruesome  ).

I know in the UK there's a holiday by the name of Guy Fawkes day on the 5th of November.

I was wondering how do you celebrate Guy Fawkes day?

Guy Fawkes day aka 'Bonfire Night'
As it is actually more of a night thing, there are fireworks of course!
And toffee and jacket potatoes.... mmm and toffee apples....
Can't wait! :)

There is a rhyme too:

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.

It is traditional to have a huge bonfire and to burn a 'guy' on it.... don't panic not a person, just a scarecrow type representation of poor old 'guy fawkes'...

It doesn't happen so much these days but there used to be a tradition to collect money to help make the 'guy' to burn... "penny for the guy"

I would say that you should light a lot of fireworks, or something along those lines. The day is in celebration of The Gunpowder Plot which was meant to blow up the English Parliment, so I say fireworks are appropriate.

Guy Fawkes was almost successful in his plot. It is claimed he already had enough gunpowder packed in the houses of parliament to blow it but for good measure he went out to buy some more and the person he bought it from was the one to turn him in.

Like cinabar says its about fireworks displays and bonfires. Usually I'll get together with friends on the night, sit on the beach and watch the fireworks out in the bay getting drunk. Any excuse for a party :p

Actually no. It was one of his accomplices that warned the Catholics that the place was going to blow up, and the person he warned notified the athorities. They searched the cellars and found the gunpowder.

At least that's the sorry according to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes

I find the manor of his execution pretty disturbing. It's all detailed in the above link.

The full version of that nursery rhyme as stated by cinabar has stated is

Remember, remember, the 5th of November
Gunpowder Treason and plot ;
I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'Twas his intent.
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below.
Poor old England to overthrow.
By God's providence he was catch'd,
With a dark lantern and burning match
Holloa boys, Holloa boys, let the bells ring
Holloa boys, Holloa boys, God save the King!
Hip hip Hoorah !
Hip hip Hoorah !
A penny loaf to feed ol'Pope,
A farthing cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down,
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar,'
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head,
Then we'll say: ol'Pope is dead.

its in old english so pardon the wording on it. but yeah that is kind of disturbing how he was going to be killed but as it said he cheated death and snapped his neck by jumping from the gallows. ah well that seems like a cool day to celebrate i'll have to call my english granddad in cali and wish him a happy guy fawkes day haha.

No Lego can't say I've gone to Whitley Bay for the fireworks before. Would you recommend it? I only used the word bay decriptively, I meant Shields. I live a couple minutes walk from beach so its convienient for me to go there, but it depends on whats going on and who I'm with. I know that you can get ice cream and hot dogs etc on Sandhaven/Littlehaven beaches during the day...not sure about fireworks night though. Are you going to eat ice cream Lego? Its a bit icey out there lately.
