The 360 title that everyone is waiting for, and concidering that the game isn't that far away now, I thought I'd make a thread dedicated to this game.
Oh, and take a look at this 12-minute in-game video (http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_3260_en.html), it looks as sweet as cotton candy, but in a good way. Unlike cotton candy, this game won't make you vomit.

Oh, and you bet your sweet behind that I will be grabbing the collectors edition ;)

This trailer is absolutely breathtaking, the sheer size of the Locust creature at the end is incredible. The music is a somewhat odd choice, but it does a good job illustrating the situation that Marcus is in.

I'm so stoked for this game, it looks mint. That trailer is awesome too, really shows off the new Unreal 3 Engine. I think the song goes with the trailer, it's talking about a mad world and I guess you could say the sadness of what's happening on the planet.

Concidering the hopeless situation that Marcus finds himself in, I think the music is a good fit, though I actually did think that the music was added by a fan.

And it looks to me that the Resistance: Fall of Man (http://www.tothegame.com/sshotfeat.asp?screen=8197&pic=3) creatures are smaller, and less beefy than the Locust horde in Gears of War.

well it depends one what kind of game you want.

they are both graphically appealing...

but, would you rather have a shooter where it's "tactical" (and i use that term lightly), it's all about getting the power weapon ("BOOMSHOT! BOOMSHOT!"), where you can get an instant kill ("Chainsaw his ***!"), do a stupid animation that really is completely pointless ("Oh yeah, imma curb stomp this mother!"), OR a tactical real time shooter, which is FPS (for me i get more into the game), which has extremely cool commands for your group to pull off, is extremely strategic, and has perfect weapon balance.

no but seriously, get both, in a way, geow will be as fun as halo2, which lasted quite awhile, (i give geow 2 weeks) but the first live game i had was r6:3, so i have always loved the r6 series.

As this tree of console controllers (http://www.axess.com/twilight/console/) might show, a bit of copying will help things move forward, and this is a win-win for consumers.
Take Saints Row for instance, even though it's close to being a blueprint of Grand Theft Auto (atleast at a glance), it's still a great game.

However, most of the regular Locust creatures aren't wearing a helmet.
Could you show me to a video of some of the bigger Restistance: FOM creatures? I haven't found any yet, I've just seen one were they are going against a rather large creature near a pedestal in a city, but it's not as big as the GoW creatures (Yes, I actually want to see it, I don't really doubt your word).

It's quite amazing that they managed to pull this graphics off in multiplayer, and still maintain a smooth feel and framerate. I hate that I'll see every single American on my friends list playing this game over a week before I can get my hands on it. Yarr!

Depends if your store is getting it on the 7th since Gears doesn't have a street date, only a select few stores will be getting it then. I'm looking towards the 9th (all games that release on a Tuesday seem to come out on the following Thursday for us up here that is).

I'm quite excited for it and will be picking it up tomorrow. The game looks amazing and I'm unsure how anyone could call it a rehash in any way. The use of cover mixed with fast paced action, co-op multiplayer along with deathmatch, original IP and cinematic 3rd person camera placement makes this a one of a kind experience. Sure its an action shooter, but never before has an action shooter been implemented in this same way with the same level of polish.

I've got high expectations as does most everyone else, and from friends in NYC who have had HANDS ON EXPEREINCE it will live up to that hope.

How long its shelf life lasts is another debate for another thread and is completely irrelevant to its quality or appeal. With the growth of the industry games are seeing shorter shelf life due to fast product releases and the increasing speed of technical progress both in presentation and implementation. To say a game with a short shelf life is of crappy quality is a pretty asinine assumption considering the choice, diversity and size of the gaming industry today.

Plus Gears is also a strategic action/shooter/horror (and then some), so there's no way it can be compared to Halo 2. Now a Killzone and Halo comparison can defininitely be made; but that's for another time.

Interesting feedback. I play games like Ghost Recon, where the game style pace is slower and more realistic. It's more about shot accuracy and skill than it is power-weapon-based.

What I'm thinking is that this game will be a hit. It seems the power-weapon-based games are a huge hit (like Halo) with the gamer community. Ghost Recon is good, but games like that aren't as popular.

true, MLG has changed a lot, but that issue of power weapon is still there, it's smaller, but it's still there. i just hope games don't turn into a power weapon type game.

I just bought it at Game Stop...and reserve the Legend thing for Halo 3 (stupid thing cost me $25 to reserve and I wanted that for a few movies...o'well). I wont get the game until tomorrow. it will look the same. The Xbox 360 can push the Ut3 engine to its full capacity and still have room to breath, so no matter the harware power of the ps3, it wont be able to make it look any better, since its already at max on the 360.

Kinda like saying a game with its settings at full max-on running at 80FPS on a pc will look better on another pc with a better video card and cpu... wont make a difference.

But regardless, although cliffyB said gears of war is not a 360 exclusive title, and its already been annoucned that MS does not own the intellectual property, (unlike most games they publish for third party studios and therefore Epic can publish the game though other publishers to any system they want), it has NOT been announced anywhere that it will be published for the ps3. On top of that, a senior person at Epic made the slip in an interview that the PS3's hardware quite likely couldnt handle gears anyways.

It's still supposed to look amazing in standard definition too. I would still get an HDTV whenever you are able to though. I have seen some of the games in both standard and hi-def, and while most still look good, some are a lot better in high-def.

I finally have the game. Not the collector's edition as I had planned to get, but the game is what counts. I must play shortly. I hope to get some online play in tonight.

I must say, I was really psyched about this game and it has met and beaten all of my expectations.

It really conveys a feeling of bleak desperation while playing the campaign mode. You almost feel depressed due to the imagery (colors, scenery, character additudes), sound and situation yet the action is so fast paced, frantic and non-stop that you cant really settle down to let it sink in. You ahve to keep acting and it presses you onward.

This game is unlike a lot of other games recently released in a war type setting which over glorify war and add humor to make it more "enjoyable". I love this game so far. I havnt checked out co-op yet, but I hope to see how that works tonight. So far I've heard great things about it.

The multi-player is AWESOME! I'm hoping they add more modes through a patch or downloadable content. I'd gladly pay for it. What they have now is good but it certainly feels limited. They have enough maps, but some variation in ROE would make playing it for hours much more refreshing.

The graphics are amazing. When starting out in multiplayer and making a rush to deploy my jaw drops every time. The draw distance is phenominal, the shader effects are mouth watering.. I cant get over it.. I'm constantly impressed.. all this with no noticable lag.

This game has raised the bar. Anyone who is considering purchasing this game, I higly recommend you do so. I can see myself running through single player in co-op multiple times on different difficulties and as long as they add more modes to multi-player it will be around for a while.

The only thing I notice that is distinctly lacking is clan support. A bunch of my freinds are already thinking of picking this game up compeditively but the software support for such is horribly lacking.

My favorite moments so far were when me and a teammate both stomped the same person together, and later on one of my teammates shot a rocket from across the level and hit someone right in the face. The person he killed was shooting at us both for quite a while, and then all of a sudden I see the rocket fly by and kill him. It was more of a funny thing than anything because he was doing all of that shooting and my teammate kills him with one shot. I was glad I was right next to my teammate to witness that.

I could understand why some people may not like the multiplayer. If you really prefer the run and gun style, then you may not like it. It is nothing like Halo, which for me is actually a breath of fresh air because I played Halo 2 so much for a year straight.

ok, here's my criticism/review.

Single player: very good, the story is decent, and not bad at all. i beat it on hardcore, currently playing insane, the end boss, in my opinion was insanely hard, and me and 3 friends spent 3 hours trading off to beat it, a little overboard. but still pretty good. the "gigantic" monster in the trailer was a huge disappointment. it was probably 30-40 ft tall and extremely easy to beat, in fact the hardest part about that boss was the wretches that attack you. the damn thing doesn't even move. i haven't gotten to try the co-op, but in due time i shall. the enemy AI is pretty good, sometimes they know when you are sniping, and don't stop, other times they hide for awhile, however, friendly AI sucks, ESPECIALLY dom, he pissed me off so many times while playing, basically he watches you fight and does nothing. in fact i just used him as bait in the final boss.

Multiplayer: utter crap. so far, the main way i get killed is by someone hiding behind a wall, and while i walk past they chainsaw me, yeah, real fun :)
however the weapons are very balanced, one boomshot, 2 shots, usually 2 snipers, but bolt action so you can't fire away like h2. the bow, which is very fun to kill someone with, but never boomshot and bow, it's one or the other.


Complaints: me and my friends have is the animations are terrible. when you curb stomp someone, you actually curb stomp the middle of their body, and then the head explodes. also, the chainsaw animation shouldn't be the same for every situation, when you chain saw a wretch, the animation should be different since they are smaller. also when someone is crouching, you hold B and the person actually stands up as part of the animation, utter crap. as well as when someone is bleeding out, you chainsaw them and they stand up and get chainsawed. IMO those could have been a lot better. and had a lot more variety.

and the rag doll affects blow hardcore. i watched someone get curbstomped, and their lower body was stuck in the ground while they twitched uncontrollably. and when you kill something, you can walk to their body and push it like it's a pillow, that IMO is not something that should be happening.

the graphics are pretty good, not "OMG i just crapped my pants!" good, but pretty good. i really love the environment's, but the character model's, just suck, did anyone see "the Train's" arms? they were at least twice the size of his head, very dumb, and pointless.

the scores it got it doesn't really deserve, i give it a 8.9. it really isn't a 9.6 game in any means. graphics best 360's gonna get, soundtrack pretty good, gameplay (singleplayer) very good, gameplay (multiplayer) meh, not really that good at all.

I for see GoW going the way of UC2. Graphics are good, single player is pretty fluid but short. Some of the Locust glitched out and some sequences took forever (mob stuck behind a wall at the end of Act 1, Bezerker getting stuck in a doorway). The AI was pretty bad too. After unloading half a clip in a locust he would jump a wall and run right at me, or things like that.

There's also other nit picks but those are just personal things that annoyed me.

All in all it's a solid title. Needed a little more story/plot line but definitly a fun shooter.

Amen, especially when they're on your team.

I'm a little disappointed with the multi-player set up, especially since that's what people are gonna gravitate towards after they beat campaign and get all the achievements on that end.

It could be vastly improved if:
a) A whole group could join ranked - it's quite the task trying to win with 3 total strangers who might not even know weapon spawns let alone strategy.
b) It let people join which ever team - I want to be on my buddy's team, yet it automatically throws me on the opposite. Usually I just hide in the middle until some stranger joins.
c) There was a choice of map in the pregame lobby - everything is chosen way before the lobby is even created.
d) Basic choices were available in pregame lobby - the game needs a pregame lobby like halo 2 where options can be changed for the game by the host. It's kind of ridiculous how a totally new room has to be made for certain options.

I agree. That is the only real major bug I've noticed in the game so far, but it's an important one. It's hard to get revived sometimes if you can't tell your teammates where you are if none are right around. Creating a new room solves the problem, but shouldn't have to be done.

I noticed two other bugs as i was playing last night. I joined a game with no weapon in hand, touching the dpad made it appear. When I grabbed snipe, and zoomed, I saw the grenade launching blue grid.

I forgot about those two, except the latter happened to me for the assault rifle instead of sniper. I threw my grenades and it went back to normal, but still rather annoying. This weekend was the first time I had either happen to me. There shouldn't be bugs in games of course, but it seems like almost every game has some bugs in it nowadays. Still loving GoW even with the bugs and other issues though.

Well, I offically am staying away from Ranked games from now on... I found an interesting article (http://www.gamerandy.com/archives/2006/11/gears_of_war_av.shtml) posted by gamerandy that talked about some of the things that kept happening to me while playing some multiplayer games (especially the "point farming", which could be the new standbying). I really hope that Epic figures out a way to prevent this (although I have no clue how they'll do it) because I really like this game.

It's still just so silly that a minority of gamers cannot just be outright banned from the service for cheating (I suggest a ban not of IPs but credit accounts like they started doing). I guess money > customer satisfaction, cause lets be honest the gamers that cheat aren't that large in number but DO leave an impact on so many players.

Well, for those who cheat, the best we can do currently is to leave negative feedback. I know it doesn't seem like much, but if everyone actually utilises the system maybe it'll start to work.

Outside of that, the game is SO much fun. I haven't run into any of the problems that people have mentioned on here, despite the fact that I typically do quick matches. The one thing I've noticed is that people don't seem to like it much when they get grenade tagged, but hey - that's just part of the game. ;-)

You can report them if they breach the Xbox Live Code of Conduct. Each complaint is looked at individually. Only report if they have breached the Code of Conduct, if you don't like playing with them leave them negative feedback (Not a preferred player [the sad face]).

I haven't noticed any cheating yet but I haven't played too many ranked matches, I've played a ton with my friends though. I just wish you could go into ranked with your friends, bringing along three other buddies would be awesome.

I would probably give the game an 8.9 with bugs and a slightly lacking story and all. I know as far as the story, that they wanted to keep it open for the next one. But I would have liked to learn a little more about Fenix and Dom, and the Locusts. The main thing driving me nuts, is having to start a room because you can't hear a teammate. Another thing I hate is getting chainsawed when you pretty much effectively shot a person(which show stop the saw rotation) and ran away, but the animation continues with you getting chainsawed and dying anyway. I like being able to tag someone with a grenade from a far distance, but lol, I believe that's a balance issue that needs fixing as well.

Oh, and getting stuck in walls is pretty annoying too.

Overall, the game is still addicting and fun as hell.

when he clicked continue game? yeah, it does that, you can continue from where you left off on any difficulty you want. i like that feature a lot.

the only thing i wish about this game is that it was harder (yes, i am on insane, and no, it is not hard, [except for the end boss which was nearly impossible by yourself on hardcore] and i play it alone, with the stupid *** dom AI, so annoying) the multiplayer was better, yeah, it can be fun but i want a game where instead of me saying can be, i can say it is always fun, which GeoW is not.

and the glitches are ridiculous, no 'next' gen game should have that many glitches, it just shouldn't.

I finished insane mode a few days ago with my bro (QuietApocalypse) and we didnt think that it was that hard at all. The last boss wasnt too bad after I figured out that you can basically run in circles around him without getting hit and destroy him w/ the torquebow and the longshot.

But then there is multiplayer, which I seem to really suck at. I havent won a match, let alone be on the wining team, of a single match yet.

I think im done with the story mode, and because i seem to suck so much at multi I really have no desire to go back and be killed within the first 10 seconds, and then have to wait for like 5 min for the round to end... At least the co-op was fun.

I really am feeling sorry for the people who run into bugs, I have yet to encounter any (not talking about multiplayer). And RAAM is super easy to kill, even on insane. Take a Torque bow and a shotgun, sit behind a block, get him stuck between the block and the round wall and shoot :D

I spent most of my weekend playing co-op in Gears of War (and playing some Tony Hawk's Project 8 inbetween) and this is pretty much one of the best gaming experiences I've had in years. I'm currently playing it again on Insane, and I'm having a blast - the game's design is simply amazing.

Gears of War actually managed to sell 360's to two of my friends this weekends, so it seems like the 360 have finally gotten it's "killer app". Got a phonecall on Saturday that went something like this: "Goddamn! All the games released for the PC these days are crap, how much do I have to pay for a 360 and Gears?" ;)

I've ran into bugs as well. One was a door got sealed before i had a chance to move forward, another was i keep getting stuck without anything around me, Marcus was on his own and i had no way of getting unstuck, apart from restarting the checkpoint.

When you deal with the exploding wrenches, it proves to be a very good time to learn your dive and roll technique. If you don't utilize this move, you won't make it through the train. Also, don't even attempt to aim with the reticle at them by holding the trigger. Just adjust and fire.

If you want to practice against these baddies, there's a section in the powerplant area where you can potentially fall through a wooden floor and battle a nonstop wave of exploding wrenches.

I've played the majority of the game on my own. Its frustrating at times, but it forces you to stop making mistakes and start playing safe. Especially on insane mode. You must rely more on your team fire, versus popping up and shooting them more than they shoot you.

Yeah, that wasn't fun....it took us almost half an hour to find the door!! Because we're rolling and turning so much, we got disoriented and pretty much ran in circles shooting anything that moved. Pretty much wasted all our ammo....not fun at all...

But the water effect outside the plant was pretty kick ***...we found ourselves just watching the interaction between water and character...amazing job...

They don't have clan support in the game (which is common thing missing in 360 games), but you can still run a clan on your own even without the in-game support (like the girls running their GoW division).

I want to get into a clan. But I've only played a few times on multiplayer.

I know H2O was supposed to have a division for GoW, but it still hasn't gotten off the ground yet. Maybe you and I should try to push them to get it going? :)

Ah so you want a female spartan? Well they had one in DOA4 but to be honest they couldn't give you a female spartan because HALO is based on the books as well on the HALO universe and the story evolves around Spartan 117 who is a male.

I'm new here, but I just wanted to say what a savior I think GOW is for the 360. I was totally up in the air when deciding on the "next gen console". But GOW swayed me towards the 360.....and I'm really happy with my decision! Great game, great console. I love hooking my ipod up to the 360, the wireless support, xbox live, the media downloads....I think it truly is an under appreciated system. For the price / features / and games catalogue I think the 360 is the best bang for your buck, period. I have had the 360 since the 17th and I'm already becoming a "360 fan....girl". I'm now considering buying Halo 2 just to get ready for Halo 3. And beyond the console purchase I have easily dropped another $150-200 on games/controllers/xbox live. I think this holiday season will be huge for the 360.....and GOW is the main reason for this.

uhh i own this game... and it's good i have over 700 gamer score in it.. i found the campaign fun and easy to pick up the online achievments are the toughest to get and the game is all 3rd person... i would suggest you stop to take a look at the environment once in a while and notice small details... regaurding the resistance fall of man comments the games graphics look like something i would have rented before zelda OoC came out straight garbage quality... thats what i have to say about the game send me a fr at acirema i play a lot but don't tend to use my mic its garbage... so look for me, pls i'm not looking for spam on my post thanks

What can be said about Gears which hasn't already been said, single player a little on the short side, possibly one of the worst ever endings for a video game... I could go on forever.

Multiplayer, I love it, I can't get enough of it and when i'm not playing with my so-called clan members who know nothing about teamwork then I'm pretty damn good at it too.
The game is a milestone title of what the 360 is capable of, just goes to show that the 360's graphical power has hardly been touched so far.

I play Live alot so if anyone fancies playing anytime send me a FR. GT: Strite.

Love this game, have only had it for about a week or so, so I've only just begun the 3rd Act. (Not one I can play in front of the little one........I imagine that a locust being smeared by a chainsaw bayonet is not the greatest image for her to see).

I've played co-op with a friend, but have yet to play in multiplayer. Sadly, don't know too many ppl who game! (Which I guess is why I am here :) )

Wondering if anyone might be interested in helping me out one day, let me sink my teeth into the mutliplayer aspect of this game.

Just played GOW for the first time..of course..I decided to play online first instead of the campaign ....Got my butt kicked by PMS MARY JANE! ahhhhh ANYWAY awesome game...will get better....everyone should play GOW
