So I've picked up MW2 and I've started playing it some, but I find that more often than not I'm running about not knowing what I'm doing or what's going on, and while I can kill stuff, once I kill a guy, I'm not sure what to do after that. So if anyone would like to give me a few pointers so I can run about in less of a confused haze it would be much appreciated. Toss me a PM if you are interested!

one word, RADAR, that mini-map on the top left is like a motion sensor! every time someone shoots without a silencer they will appear as a red dot (or if UAV scan is on). In CoD because it is such a twitchy reaction low hp shooter, knowing where your enemy is is basically gonna guarantee you the kill. I actually look at that thing like 80% of the time and only look on screen for CQC and aiming.

Yeah I managed to get that far, but I'm just wondering what sort of things I should do, or routes I should take so I don't get caught unawares by Alfred B Snipesyouinthebackfromawindow30feetofftheground. Now I know this is all completely situational and map dependent but yeah, that's one of the things that burns me every time I play.

Usually when you kill someone in TDM They respawn closer then one would like.. so expect them to hunt you down and seek revenge. If you do kill someone try turning round and heading the other way (depending on map) the amount of times they have spawned behind me :o

Take your time and move slowley sometimes, players run round like crazed nutters and you can pick up some easy kills.

Also! I almost forgot to mention, to all those who are looking at my GC and don't see COD and are wondering why I'd want someone to teach me if there is no evidence of me playing on my main, the answer may be found on my secondary account that I do use to play MW2.

We could have some games of MW2 :)

I'm not amazing or anything but I guess practice is really the main lesson. After all you took me through the ODST campaign when I was totally lost! lol.

One of the things to remember is to always check behind i.e. don't be running around like a headless chicken stop every now and then check all routes to where u r and get your bearings make sure u know what you are doing and where u r going and make sure u LISTEN!
I'm not very good but if you want someone to game with feel free to sent a fr :)

Hey Gotham, I just recently wrote up a guide for my lovelies in the PMS MW2 360 division! I hope this helps!

Vulcan’s Guide to Call of Duty!

Classes and Perks

1. Choose your weapons carefully! If you’re good at running and gunning, then something quick like a UMP or any kind of Sub Machine Gun should be good. Think about the weight of the gun and how much it will hold you down if you’re running around. Also, use something you’re absolutely comfortable with. If you don’t normally use an Assault Rifle, then try something else!

2. Know how you’re gun works and how much ammo it can hold. I’m a Semi-Automatic kinda gal, so the M16 or any 3-Round Burst weapons are my favorite. If you’re not into the Semi’s, you can try doing a 3-round burst with any gun and see how you like it! It will save you ammo and force you to become more accurate, especially if you don’t use Scavanger Pro!
3. Secondary weapons can either kill you or save you! I *ALWAYS* use a weapon that can save my booty, whether my opponent is close to me or far away. For example, I usually carry the PP2000 (Machine Pistol), since its useful with both long and short range, but again, use whatever you’re comfortable with!

4. Perks! No matter what gun I’m using, I ALWAYS have these 3 perks on ALL of my guns:
a. Scavanger Pro
b. Stopping Power Pro
c. Ninja Pro
The only time I will ever switch these is up in Hardcore modes, so then I have these perks:
a. Bling (Whatever weapon attachment with a silencer)
b. Cold- Blooded
c. Ninja Pro

Keep in mind that if you DON’T have Ninja Pro but other people on your team do, then you’re pretty much voiding that for them! Especially when people on the other team have specialty headsets like TB’s or Trittons. If they hear you running, chances are, you’re near your team mates as well, which gives them more kills and a chance to see your setup.

Lastly, keep your gun CENTERED in the middle of you TV screen. This will help your accuracy, quick aim, and even hip fire. I noticed a lot of people have the tendency to point their guns downward, which is time wasted when you need to aim quickly and fire off a few rounds.

5. Killstreaks: For ranking up purposes, I usually just throw on whatever, just to get it out of the way and to be able to get more XP, but when it comes to getting to the higher levels, I usually always have my setup as either 7-11-25 or 9-11-25. These can depend on the map. If you’re on Skidrow, a Chopper Gunner or an AC130 aren’t that much help unless you have them spawn trapped outside near A flag, but I find myself usually going with the Chopper Gunner. It’s super fast and seems to last longer. I’ll use and AC130 setup for open maps like Afghan or Wasteland, where they only have a limited area to find cover in and chances are, they won’t be spawning in the caves. To be concise, a Chopper Gunner is my BFF. I like being able to move quickly, fast, and just hold down the trigger. The AC130 isn’t bad, don’t get me wrong, I just don’t like pushing a lot of buttons toggling between this and that when I’m trying to get my Nuke.

6. Deathstreaks: Unless you’re ranking up, I’m not a fan of these. They are helpful when you least expect it, but I don’t really care what I have them setup for as I never try to purposely rank those up.

7. Game play:
Here are a few things to keep in mind when playing in general, regardless of what game type.

a. Stay AWAY from your teammates. If you have good communication, you won’t need to be next to them or heck, even be able to see them. If you’re on a small team, you should know where each other is, so if one of you dies, your comrades can be aware.
b. Pi your corners! Yes, Pi. When coming upon a corner of a building, vehicle, object, whatever it may be, pan yourself out around it. Don’t cut corners. If you notice below, the arrow on the bottom right shows what it looks like when you cut corners. The arrows on the left of the box show how you can ‘Pi’ the corners by taking a few steps further out from your objective. If an enemy is sitting around a corner, you could get hit by a claymore, get knifed, or end up having the small ‘holy crap I ran into someone head-on’ skirmishes. (Check the attachment to view the diagram!)
c. Take the long way home! When you’re in a SnD, Domination, or heck, like this whole guide says, ANY game type, take the longest route to get to your location! It works, I promise! Especially if you’re playing with randoms, they all usually tend to crowd certain ‘hot spots’ on the maps that are familiar with everyone. It takes one person on your team to sneak around and get behind enemy lines to snag a few kills and maybe even swap spawn. By doing so, you also allow a little breathing room to let your teammates follow your path and join you on the other side.

8. KNOW THE MAPS! Ladies, in this section of our forums, we have OVERHEAD layouts of these maps, so learn them! Also, go in a private lobby alone or with some friends and take a friendly stroll around the maps. See what buildings are called, how many floors they have, what it looks like when someone is laying down on the second floor of this building or crouching behind that truck. The more you memorize, the better off you’ll be! And of course, LEARN the callouts! I know it can be hard to memorize them and none the less, call them out during the heat of battle, but at least be familiar enough to say something descriptive enough about where you’re located or where you saw an enemy at. For small teams, try using NO communication during game play. Test each other’s skill out and learn their routes, you’ll be surprised how much better you play when you’re not all talking at once. ESPECIALLY if you’re using TB’s or any surround sound headsets.

9. Keep moving! Just because you got 4 kills in a row sitting behind a white truck doesn’t mean you’ll survive there for long! Use the sniper mentality when you play: Get a kill, MOVE. And when I say move, I don’t mean move all the way across the map, just move to the left a bit, or lie down, or move further back. Like you, enemies will look for objects to pin you to. If they know you killed them while standing behind the hood of the white truck, they’re going to look there again, instead of laying down near the bed of the truck the next time you kill them. ASSUME THE ENEMY KNOWS WHERE YOU ARE EVERYTIME.

10. Learn spawn points! The entire game is based off diagonal spawn points. Think about it. When you spawn on Afghan, you’ll get tubed from the Pipeline or trench into A flag spawn area. 9 times out of 10, they’re spawning diagonally to your left (or right, depending on which side YOU spawn on). Keep that in mind when you get hit with prefire, like on Highrise.
i. SPAWN TRAP! It is possible on EVERY game type except Headquarters. To spawn trap on Domination, Hold down 2….*2* Flags. You don’t need 3 to win the game and by crossing enemy lines, you’re messing up the spawns. For any other game mode, keep a horizontal flank with your team. Chances are, the enemy is going to run towards you over and over again, so by holding your line, you’ll control their spawn. When holding down your line, keep it to the middle of the map. The more you keep pushing, they more chances you have of spawning the enemy behind you. Think of it like the Revolutionary War, where everyone is lined up. You can also use the same line-flank diagonally in any direction to push and control spawn points.
ii. Headquarters: Whenever we’ve capped a point, I like to get the heck away from it and find a vantage point that’s enough for me throw a few frags, stuns, or flashes, and can also give me a few chances to take some shots. FMJ + Stopping Power can be your friend on HQ! KEEP MOVING AROUND THE HQ! Sitting in one spot will make you an easy target! Also, if you happen to get caught in an enemy spawn, I like to let them kill me…it will automatically place me closer, if not ON the next HQ location.

what works well for some people, wont necessarily work for others. You're probably going to be best off by just using your own style. for a new player you're going to have to figure out what that means on your own. Adopting another person's style may work well, it may not. But regardless of that, it wont be as fun, because its not yours.

all i will disclose is stay away from Marathon perk. you run too much and you will get killed. every other CoD game didnt have unlimited running so to depend on that here will just mess you up.

Stay on the outside of the map. This will help you navigate around the map without being shot in the back. Running into the middle is just a bad idea. And like others have said, keep moving. Kill a few people in 1 spot and then get the heck out of there. Chances are, whoever you killed will come back for payback.

Oh wow, this is a lot of stuff to read, and thank you everyone who has posted so far, taking the time to give me tips and tricks of the trade. Hopefully I'll get to play with all of you at least once so you can stomp me into the ground when I make a silly mistake. Like earlier today some kid got really testy with me when I mistook him for an enemy as he was hiding around a corner and there was a little red dot on the radar which was near him. After shooting at me he announced angrily "I'm on your team Jackass!" to which I responded "I'm new to the game jerk, and it's not like I killed you so calm down."

And for anyone wanting to play, just toss my GT Insatiable Sulk a FR and we will run some games, and hopefully I wont get run over too badly.

Here are a couple of tips that I've given my newbie buddies.

1. Cover: After killing an enemy and reloading your weapon, try and reload behind cover. A wall, a box, a car (provided it's already been blown up.) This is will keep you from getting shot in the face in the middle of reloading, which is terribly frustrating. If there's no cover around you, drop to your belly and reload. This gives you a slight edge. Enemies will run to your area because they heard your gun, but since you're prone, they won't see you. Then you pop up and go, "SURPRISE! Bang, bang, bang."

2. Spectate: When you get killed, watch the killcams. Don't just skip it and go straight into death. We know you want to get kills, but your team isn't going to like it if you die a billion times, so learn from your mistakes. If you were killed by some dude in a corner camping, try to not go back. Seasoned campers will always kill newbies. If you were killed by a non-camper, watch what they're doing. How did they spot you? What sort of class/weapon did they have?

3. Experiment: Go into a private match (with a friend or by yourself) and try out all the different guns and equipment. See which one's you like best. If you're with a friend, play target practice. If you're by yourself, just run around and try to get to know the map. Look for areas that you would try and defend or hold, and then figure out how you would get an enemy out of there. You can even just kill yourself over and over and see where you spawn so that you learn the spawn points.

Regardless, though, practice makes perfect, so you'll have to actually get out there and play. Don't get frustrated, though. There are plenty of newbies like yourself out there. We were all there once. Just have fun with it. I would suggest trying to play with friends as often as possible, though. Not only will they help you win, therefore gaining you more XP and unlocking more weapons, but you'll learn different tactics. In my opinion, there aren't a lot of random strangers on CoD who talk strategy, or even have a mic.
