Okay folks, so I was debating on whether or not to order a Kindle. I've been using Amazon Kindle software on my laptop and my blackberry for awhile now, and wanting to purchase one.
Well, I'm so glad I waited!! It's now in graphite color, a little smaller, AND has Free 3g + built in Wifi!!!!
I did it! Ordered it this morning as a pre-order for the August 27th launch!!! I'm super stoked and can't wait!!

I would buy one if textbooks were cheaper on it than hard copies but, alas, they're priced about the same. :( I don't read enough books outside of school to buy e-reader.
I like the graphite color of that one though. Enjoy! :)

Should I spend $50 more to get one with 3G, or just go with the cheaper one with just Wi-Fi?

I contemplated that too, and went for the one WITH the 3g and Wifi combined. The previous kindles all had free 3g, the wifi is new, so I like the idea of the combination ~ just in case I'm out of range for wifi and have the need (want) to download something.
I have the capability of converting pdf's to kindle format on my pc, so I can get free books too (haha) that I shouldn't... so I don't know how much of a difference it will make, but I considering it was only $50 more, I went for it.
@ Righty, yeah, that would make a huge difference. It's such a shame that textbooks cost such unnecessary prices. My art history book was $250 and that was 10 years ago.. I can only imagine.
@ Zombie, I definitely would recommend this for you, too. We buy books, we hoard books, and they are such a pain to lug around (though I do LOVE books). This is going to make it so convenient -- it houses 3500 books!!

I got a Kindle part way through this last year and I absolutely love it. I do wish I would have known there was a graphite colored one coming out, but it works pretty much the same so I don't mind too much. Definitely worth the money.

@ Goose, aren't you excited?? I know I am!!

My kindle came in today!!
Mine is arriving today as well!! That's awesome!! I'm sad though, because I basically have to work for 13 hours today, and I'll be busy as all get out... knowing that my poor kindle will be sitting here waiting for me! OH the torture :)
The case for it is coming via USPS, whereas the package is coming UPS.... so hopefully it wont take too much longer to get here!

Aww! Congratz! My cousin LOVES her Kindle. I was suppose to get one but I decided to get the iPad instead since it has the Kindle App.

I'm not sure what Kindle is... but I suspect it's some sort of e-book program???
The e-book programs do seem convenient, but I can't let go of the feel and smell of reading a physical book, holding it in my hands.

yes, a Kindle is by Amazon, and it's an e-reader. It's not backlit, like the nook or ipad, so it's easy on the eyes and looks like actual pages (which is nice, because my eyes get strained from looking at a backlit screen, i.e. computer monitors).
I just recently took the majority of my books to half-price books and turned them in. It was a very hard experiance, as I love my books, but am happy that now I can share them with others who will hopefully love them as much as I did.
I love reading on the Kindle, it's much lighter than a book, and easier to hold, so it works well for me. Not to mention there are so many classics available for free online that it's nice to get free e-books too!

I got my Kindle earlier this year and love it. I won't be giving up the traditional book though. For some authors I want their hardback copies. Graphic novels, art books and books for my job I also need to have in their regular book form. For travel purposes the Kindle is perfect.

I had wanted the kindle and was given the Barnes and Noble Nook, for mothers day last year. Which is better doesn't make a difference, its the digital book, any digital book. I love it, i read all of the time, books cost less and you don't have to store them or find someone to pawn them off on. The feature on my that i like the most is the ability to lend a book to someone else for 14 days. My mom and my sister both have one too. So we share books, its awesome. Oh yeah, what ever you do make sure you get the 3g. wireless anywhere!!!

I did, and I got the wi-fi one too. So it has both, which is nice, because my home internet is faster than AT&T's 3g around here (although their 3g isn't bad in this area, just not as fast as it could be).

I didn't know that. Nice! And if anybody cares about star wars books...
According to StarWars.com:
"all the entire library of Star Wars fiction titles under the Del Rey and Bantam Spectra imprints will be available in eBook format as of June 28, 2011. Over one hundred backlist titles will be converted into digital editions, along with any future Star Wars novels presently in production. These titles will join the thirty Del Rey Star Wars novels currently available as eBooks".
So this officially happened a little under a week ago. :)

I'm just wondering what the battery life is like on a Kindle? >.>;; I was thinking of getting one before taking a trip to Australia 3 months ago, it would've saved a lot of space in my suitcase!

Mine lasts about 10 days to a week or so, depending on how much I read and if I accidentally leave the wireless on (Wireless on uses more battery). I carry it around in my purse, I love having so many options at my fingertips!
