FYI to all... more at xbox.com (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/2006/1012-downtime.htm).
Downtime for Xbox.com and Xbox Live
We've got some scheduled maintenance coming up and want to let everyone know that both the Xbox LiveŽ service and Xbox.com will be offline and unavailable starting at midnight Pacific Time on Tuesday October 17, 2006 for up to 24 hours.

I assume we'll be getting some new features to Xbox.com? (An image gallery where you can upload pictures taken with the Vision camera, perhaps?)
There isn't really a lot that can be done without a dashboard upgrade to the 360, unless you'll be tweaking the matchmaking and such?
And the "What to do while Xbox Live is down"-section was pretty awesome, for more trivia regarding October the 17th, see Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_17 ;)

Oh wow! I am so close to that played 100 days in row thing ( your xbox can blog). I think that I will be at about day 96 or 97 on the 17th. Well I guess I will have to play just after mid-night my time to make sure I don't miss a day.

I play after midnight a lot and it still counts it for the previous day, not the next one. Maybe if you logged off and back on again, it may work.

Thanks for the info, if this is indeed the fall update, i'm kinda bouncing in between classes an HW here, but do you have a list offhand of the major changes? (a link works too)

Does anyone find that their friends list goes a bit strange after updates? People coming up with 0 points and silver accounts etc?
I still can't sign in yet, i'm sure they'll have stuff back to normal in not too long though, give it some time still, I think it said it might not be done until this afternoon (if i remember correctly)-

I came home for a bit after lunch and I signed in fine but when I tried to get on a little bit ago it wouldn't let me sign in...I'm not sure if it's just my connection or what... :(

OK good its not just me lol. It's obviously them.
It appears to be back down again for everyone, I'm sure they're working their hardest to get xbl back up and running for everyone, I'm guessing since we haven't gotten the food list they're even busier than last time :p

yea mine still isn't working either it has the option of signing in but when i click it it says invaild page...but i am sure they will get it up soon...i hope...:)

well as far as i can tell new icons, renewal service online(that was prolly there before), something called microsoft points, and thats all i could get before my internet kicked me off.

I'm having a bit of a hard time seeing why we had to wait about 50 hours for the "new" and "improved" Xbox.com, when there are hardly anything new to it.
Been browsing a bit through the site, but I can't find any major news, E - could you give us the list of what's been added?

The website still doesn't work for me, at least not the page I set as my homepage.
There doesn't seem to be any changes to the dashboard either, at least not the things rumoured earlier on.

Gives a pretty good insight in what went on behind the scenes, and should give people a better understanding of why the service was down longer than expected.
The podcast also got a nice interview with CliffyB and a Q&A panel with some other guys from Epic at X06 Canada.
Kudos to Major Nelson and E for taking the time to explain everything.
