I would really avoid using the official client, as that one's bloatware. I'd suggest Trillian (http://www.trillian.cc/downloads/), which supports AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger.

Yeah, but I think she only wants AIM....why waste space downloading a program with 5 clients when your only gonna use 1?

if by any chance anyone here uses a Mac, the program "Adium" also supports different IMing programs such as AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and Jabber. (just incase)
