Today is the Great North Run, a 12 mile half-marathon for pro athletes and people fundraising running for various causes. It starts in Newcastle on the Tyne Bridge and finishes in my hometown of South Shields. Its been on BBC1 all day so far.
All the roads are blocked and closed near my house so I'm not being able to go anywhere. This is probably the only thing that happens in Shields and it is weird to watch the TV and see my house and the surrounding area.

Haha! Nah I play football 3 times a week thats enough for me.
Here is yet another shining example of how the media portray the negative side of things...local news calls the event a 'tragedy' because 1 man died while participating in the Great North Run. Last year 3 people died due to exhaustion and dehydration, it unfortunately happens if they haven't prepared themselves well beforehand. Aren't we forgetting the 20,000+ people who didn't die and in fact completed the race, enjoyed themselves and raised money?
As much as the media and society tells us to keep fit, stay healthy and look a certain way they fail to acknowledge that even the healthiest of people are at risk. Anyone remember Jim Fix (tofu eating jogger)? Also 2 footballers have had heart attacks on the pitch during a game, 1 of which I actually saw. Marc Vivien Foe (Cameroon International) and just 2 weeks ago a player from Falkirk. These guys trained almost every day, stuck to a strict diet and were healthier than anyone you might know. Don't believe everything on TV.
