Hell I feel worse for the teams going there, the place is pretty crazy... I mean, in my eyes its pretty insecure to host such an event there. Just a while back Adebayor's bus was shot (http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1188542_emmanuel_adebayor_escapes_gun_attack_on_to go_team_bus) at in Togo, killing two players and injuring others, and there's averagly 50 murders a day in South Africa alone, just doesn't seem like smart move to me. :mvshock:

My favourite time of every 4 years is the Summer of the World Cup, I love it. Sun, Beers and Football!! Doesn't get better than that for me.

Yet again a situation where England are among the favourites and expectancy is high. I agree with most of you that England and USA should qualify from the group 1st and 2nd. I think England CAN win the whole thing but after our epic fail of not qualifying for the European Championships last time I still need some convincing.

You could see the game on bigscreens and little screens everywere you went.When they won Everyone stopped what they were doing and was cheering there were parades and flags and people running around screaming they won they won! Both teams failed at playing possession on most occasions, but England played better overall in my opinion. First half USA players had terrible first touches which led to turnovers fairly often. England's keeper forgot the number one rule of goal keeping - get your body behind the ball which allowed the USA goal. Howard on the other hand played an amazing game at the opposite end of the field.

England vs USA wasn't a great match (in terms of quality football) but it was sure as hell fun to watch at a bar celebrating a friend's 21st. Honestly I'm glad it ended in a tie - neither team deserved the win or the loss. I do hope that we play each other again....

As much as I want to agree, all athletes know that Referee's are a part of the game. You have to learn how to play through it, and essentially make them a non-factor. The USA shouldn't have been down 0-2 to begin with, and that's credited to Slovenia.

Tough loss, and I felt like it was a horrible call as well. But as an athlete you live with it and move onto the next one. Of course, as a FAN we like to take things out of proportion sometimes- especially when it's a team you favor on the losing end. But since I am an athlete, I try to take a realistic approach and carry those same principles as a fan.

Brazil - Cote d'Ivoire should be one of the most interesting matches of the first round, along with Brazil - Portugal. Brazil hasn't really impressed me though, actually they haven't for the last few tournaments. People always say it's 'Samba' but for the last few cups it wasn't all pretty, it was just successful and thats what its all about. I wouldn't complain :)

Netherlands are through to the next round so hurray! Not a great match yet again, but we're through and like I said, thats what counts.

Personally, I couldn't care less too, since we win. Besides, on the past World Cup we were promised "samba" and stuff (i.e. awesomely pretty football from all of those star players), and there you go, the '06 fiasco, thanks to apathetic players who seemed to have played that World Cup only for personal records' sake. Add to that the lack of focus on the pre-Cup (Weggis, anyone?), and we got a circus, but with over 180 million clowns :mvshakefist:

Rants aside, despite I'm a bit worried because of the defensive game that Sven-Goran typically offers (especially now that a draw would put pressure on us on the match against Portugal, while Côte got NK as their last match), that's definitely a very promising game! :mvagree:

Worse than a questionable goal, on which drugs the referee was? Absolutely stupid and nonsensical. He waits 'til 85 to give a measly yellow card, when we got a play that almost broke Elano's leg, and another one that almost sent Michel off too. Without mentioning other violent plays.

Then, that stupid red card just because Kaká accidentally hit the head on the opponent's head. If Stephane (the referee) couldn't sent off the man with the #9 shirt, then he should give a red card to himself for his stinky performance, one of the worst refereeing performances I've ever seen since I started watching World Cup matches at '98.

I might just second that. Everyone was pretty skeptical on Brazil since they don't have anybody like Ronaldino or Ronaldo, Carlos. But damn, they've still got Kaka, and now they've got that Maico guy? That dude is so sick! The Portugal game was good. It's going to be interesting if they have to face eachother again. Spain? I don't know. They were favorites but they haven't gotten their freekin' motors goin' jes yet! They need a fire lit under their "you know whats". Argentina? Meh! they've got the best player on the planet, and they do have other players. But I'm just not feelin' 'em. South Korea? I've always been a fan. I love their style in baseball and they're always real smart, real conservative playing soccer. I hope they advance this next game. Personally, I think Spain will beat Portugal. I still think that they are the favorites in this tournament. La Roja has great ball movement and control. You'll find that a lot of their games can be rather boring, because they'll pass back and forth to control the ball and the clock. They have an explosive attacking unit... I don't know, I'm also a biased fan so of course I think and want them to win lol.

So, I'm only watching the US... because I'm an American lol. But I don't really see Ghana as a hard opponent for the US so to be honest I'm not interested. But I'll watch simply to cheer on the Red White and Blue.

I'm a huge fan of the Spaniards. In part because I am Spaniard lol, but I've loved watching their ball control. I think they'll best Portugal. I think Chile can give Brazil a run for their money, they have a pretty decent team. But I still think Brazil proves why they're one of the Top teams coming into this tournament.

I personally think Mexico can pull off an Upset. They have been playing horrible for YEARS, they're bound to get farther in the tournament at some point... and they have a lot of young talent on the roster. I think they'll best Argentina.

While I have respect for our US Rivals, I still think Germany has the better team. They're playing pretty well, at least more consistent than England has been. I'm also German... so again biased haha. I'm fan, it's in my family roots- but I'll always root for Los Matadores.

So yea... we'll have to wait and see!

No referee of any quality would have allowed that much wasting of time and diving. Cards should have been given for theatrics. Instead, he gave out kicks to Ghana. Constantly having to reset the ball doesn't just waste time, it takes out momentum as well.

I'm not saying the US deserves to win - we didn't show up in first half and looked tired - but Ghana's acting is insulting to the team and the sport and the referee allowing it is unacceptable.

As for "that's how soccer is", I follow MLS and Euro league soccer and although stuff like this happens, it's never to this degree, intensity, or permitted like it was in this games. What's the point of playing extra time when Ghana just wastes half of it laying on the ground?

And as for stalling time, that's just a part of the game. You could essentially pass the ball back and forth and never attempt to go for the net. A lot of teams will do this; it eats away the clock, removes the other teams momentum, and allows you to set-up.

But the most common answer that you'll ever hear is- Don't Ever Put Yourself In That Position. The USA was losing, that's their own fault to start. Had they been winning, they wouldn't have cared how long it took for the Ghana player to stand up. In fact, they'd probably be happy with all the time he wasted.

Put yourself in a favorable position from the start of the game, and eliminate all chances of losing. If you don't- you can complain about every thing that didn't go your way... it won't change the outcome of the game.

David James should've had one ball that went in. It was a goal by Muller. I'm a goalkeeper myself and I think I would've saved that ball. He just went the complete wrong way. He did well the rest of the game though.

With this many blatant errors, I think FIFA's going to have a much harder time rationalizing not using some sort of goal line technology. Even it's a ref that stands behind the goal (like is being tried in some of the euro leagues), something needs to change.

Meh England's goal should have counted but I'd be lying if I said that I had never seen that exact scenario before a few times not count. At the professional level, I think that they need to have someone in the booth watching replays for questionable situations (Argentina's first goal). It would relieve a lot of pressure on the refs and would be more a lot more fair.

If you watch the replay, the sideline ref isn't even watching the line but the game.... Rookie refing mistake.
