Default CPL Changes Winter Event Dates
For the past week the CPL has been receiving complaints from registrants of the CPL 2006 Championship Finals that while attempting to make room reservations at the Hyatt Regency hotel, they are being told that the block has been sold out and they could not book additional rooms.

After meeting with the management of the Hyatt, the CPL became aware that the CPL block of rooms is in fact full, and that the entire hotel is also full because of a second large group the Hyatt booked during the CPL event.

Due to the overwhelming interest in the CPL Championship Finals and after discussions with its primary sponsors, the CPL has decided to move the dates of the event forward by a few days and block the rooms for the entire hotel.

Therefore, the CPL 2006 Championship Finals will now take place from Saturday, December 16 to Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Dallas.

Many potential attendees have also complained that the previous dates conflicted with their college finals. This change allows those gamers to attend the event after completing their final examinations.

Additionally, the Hyatt has agreed to reduce the hotel room rate from $89.00 per night to only $75.00 for single, double, triple, or quadruple occupancy. Saving our attendees $70 over an average five-night stay.
The CPL and the Hyatt are working with American Airlines, the official airline of the CPL, to ensure that players and attendees are not inconvenienced due to this change and can adjust their travel arrangements with as little trouble as possible.

For those that have already booked rooms at the Hyatt, the dates will be automatically adjusted and an agent from the Hyatt's reservation department will be contacting every person to confirm the date change.

For those that have not booked rooms at the Hyatt the CPL recommends to reserve rooms quickly.

Recommended arrival date: Friday, Dec 15, 2006

Recommended departure date: Thursday, Dec 21, 2006

For travel or lodging advice the CPL recommends to post questions in the "Travel & Venue Forum" at the following URL http://forums.thecpl.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=13

Because the new events dates now allow college students to attend the CPL winter event, AMD and ATI are offering an additional 500 free spectator passes at
http://www.thecpl.com/register/?page=freepass&eventid=21

The previous 1,000 passes were all taken in about three weeks. If you have already reserved a free pass you do not need to reapply as all event passes for all categories have now been updated to the new dates.

It's FINALLY announced. Been in the works for about 2 weeks... and some related snags almost kept me from coming to NYC for Digital Life, thankfully it all worked out. A small shameless plug for my company here :)

he Cyberathlete Amateur League (CAL) announced today that it has launched the registration of the Quake 3 online qualifier for the CPL 2006 Championship Finals. The online registration will remain open until Thursday, October 19, 2006.

To register for the qualifier, go to www.caleague.com/?page=register and create an account with CAL. If you already have a CAL account (or once you've created a CAL account), you must join the division by going now to www.caleague.com/?division=q3q

Players will then be randomly seeded and scheduled with the first matches beginning on October 22 and running through November 19, 2006. Players will compete in a double elimination format throughout the tournament. The top three finishers will receive confirmed competitor spots into the sold-out Quake 3 one-versus-one tournament at the CPL 2006 Championship Finals.

The following merchandise prizes will also be provided by CPL sponsors BenQ and Plantronics to the top three finalists.

1st place - one (1) FP222W LCD monitor from BenQ and one (1) GAMECOM™ PRO 1 from Plantronics.

2nd place - one (1) FP202W LCD monitor from BenQ and one (1) GAMECOM™ PRO 1 from Plantronics.

3rd place - one (1) FP93GX LCD monitor from BenQ and one (1) GAMECOM™ PRO 1 from Plantronics.

Note: To receive these prizes the winner must attend the CPL 2006 Championship Finals.

Matches will be played on the new CPLŽ PlayLinc client, a next-generation online game browsing and messaging platform that gives gamers more control over their multiplayer gaming experience. This customized client also features FREE hosted servers for Quake 3 and will be used for all tournament matches to launch the match servers. Qualifier participants must download the CPLŽ PlayLinc client from cpl.playlinc.com.
