imo the game is not suitable for competition on PC. (COD4 is better for PC) - lacking dedicated servers basically hampers a tournament horrifically in the PC world.

yes and no. The console community has long come to accept p2p matches with one player being host as somehow 'okay'. And lets face it, with a closed platform box solely running the games - and the joystick control scheme (as compared to mouse and keyboard), the host advantage is not quite as big of a deal. It still IS certainly an issue, moreso in some games then others, but console tournaments have come to live with that system.

Unfortunately, its much much bigger of an issue when it comes to PC. 25ms on LAN lag you can get away with on console, but its a problem for the ultra-competitive PC side of things. Likewise, online iwnet sits at about 200ms of lag resulting in a huge amount of lag correction calculations. Ever get shot while you thought you were behind a wall, only to see in the killcam the enemy appears to have the bead on you and fire while you're in the open? Lag correction, and its bad. I consider the lag online for MW2 on console "barely playable", moreso on the unplayable from a competitive perspective. For PC however, 200ms is totally unplayable for any vetrin PC gamer in the FPS world. (MMO / RTS is different). For the more hairline trigger games, you want pings under 50 really. Dedicated servers allow for that, but iwnet does not.

I wish consoles had them too, then most people would become accustom to the benefits that dedis provide, they would see hwo they can make the game better. Even if the matchmaking system ran otherwise identical to the current setup, if players connected to a dedicated server you'd see less connections issues and much better connectivity. Sadly it is rather expensive for a company to host a lot of dedis, especially on the scale that you'd need for MW2. :(
