I have to express my annoyance for this and i wanna see what you all think.

I was just reading up on some gaming news and discovered that God of War III will have a super awesome really expensive collectors edition that basically comes with a bunch of useless crap for like... oh probably 30 dollars more. MW2 is doing this and you get night vision goggles (probably 10 dollar ones from walmart that are not even close to what they really use in the military) and of course we have all seen the legendary edition of halo 3. these are just a few examples of these outrageous special editions... in games. I also see almost ever movie that comes out these days (i used to work at an entertainment store) has these 10 dollar more dvd special editions of the movie that have like.... oh.... 5 minutes of extra footage.

Now the games really annoy me because they are just used as extra bull crap to make more money (cash in products). To me i think the only games that should have these ultra special collectors editions are the games that have already been labeled cult classics or huge games that have already been extremely successful over the years, which they should then release the special collectors edition 5 years down the line for the fans and have it contain things that are actually... useful. Not only do i think they would make these more worth our money but they would probably do better in sales (if of course the game is considered a cult classic). For example if they re-released FF7 "collectors edition" for ps1 and had a bunch of extra crap in it for 50 bucks... that would sell like crazy. I do have to say i was very impressed with the blazblue special edition for the simple fact that i have yet to see a version that wasnt the special edition and the special edition blazblue cost 60 dollars... the same price as a normal game such as the cheapest halo 3 (when it came out).

Now with the movies, if you have 5 minutes of footage you couldn't put in the theatrical version (which i think most of them could they just didnt for the obvious reason that they could put them in a +10 dollar special dvd) just put the extended version out alone! Dont even bother putting out a theatrical version... it just confuses alot of people. OR put them on the same dvd like Die Hard 4 did.

ok i had to blow off some steam, i could keep going but i think ive said enough atm lol, your thoughts?

i disagree. i love some of the special edition games. i bought the legendary edition of halo3, i love my MC helmet. if i would have pre-ordered mw2 earlier i would have gotten the prestige edition of that too. its NOT a 10$ wal-mart brand night vision, its also not military, of course not, but it does see 50 ft in front of you in pitch darkness, to me thats impressive for 60$ plus a cool headstand for it and a bunch of other extra crap that neither of the other editions have.

i also have the fallout3 special edition, it was eh, not entirely worth it since i ended up not liking the game that much, but the lunch box is cool and the little pipboy bobble head. for most games. the arkham asyhlum special edition had a real metallic batterang, that's just badass, i wish i would have gotten that. IMO i think special editions are worth it if you are into the game.

i will agree that older games should come out with collectors edition versions, but if your a collector you already have all the action figures and wall scrolls and all that BS for it, so in the end what could they put in a special edition for a cult classic that a hardcore fan doesnt have already?

of course i am exaggerating on the goggles a little lol =P it happens when someone gets annoyed. of course this is just how "I" feel about it and there are no right or wrong feelings, just like you said, your into the collectors edition thing. But as for the classics getting re-released and you wonder what they could possibly put into it... trust me they would think of something or create something that hasnt already been created. Ive already mentioned before how much i praise mega man 9 but that to me is not just a new game... to me that was like a huge treat for the fans of the classics and i think that could be considered the same category is a re-release special (im sure you see what im getting at, i cant seem to word it any better lol). But as far as making new things or finding something awesome to put into a classic collectors re-release... i wouldnt put it passed them.

and i never said i buy the special editions even though i hate them, trust me i buy the cheapest one if its not something that im REALLY REALLY into, all im saying is... almost ever game has these and its insulting to know that these are no longer made for the fans but used as a cash in strat because the video game corporation has become greedy as hell.
