"Cheapen the Word"

Few phrases still carry their original meaning
"I love you" held the power to move mountains
"It'll be alright" was the best at healing,
but now everything feels as cheap as the thought behind it

Love, love, love
Makes the world go round
But to say so too soon is to rush
and to do it too late is to put your heart in the ground

Cheapen the Word,
like the illusion of gold where there is only steel
cheapens our minds, guilt is all we feel
guilt that our love is not unique, unfortunately

Cheapen the Word
I love you can be said over and over again
but actions speak louder than words
and loving can start becoming heartwarmingly common again

so please, don't say those words with a feigned attempt,
cause it's not the words that matter, it is that beautiful intent
that peace and love can live as a rose and a dove
and that every moment feels like happiness reigning above.

May I have permission to use this in a poetry analysis thing we are doing in my LA3 class? This poem is freakin awesome, and I think it would fit into our study well.

p.s. I will credit the author etc.
