Ok...so how do I get my girl into hardcore gaming? I've tried just about everything I could think of. She's a sucker for a good book so I thought I'd try a good story, it sort of worked. She played a basic fighter class in Neverwinter Nights up until her character reached lvl 10 and things became involved in regards to lvling up, feats, prestige classes, etc. I've tried guild wars, WoW, Knight Online, and other RPG's. She won't even go near a FPS or anything requiring quick action. So....any suggestions? I made the mistake of trying KOTOR...HA!

Is she into any of the 360 Arcade games like UNO? Or if you or a friend have the DS there are many great games with simple stories to play through with little or no combat involved such as Trace Memory or Brain Age(she can actually read lit passages in this one). She can probably try Brain Age at any game retailer like ToysRus, Best Buy, EB/Gamestop, so on.

I know the 360 Arcade games and DS have gotten many non gamers interested in playing other games.

I'm a huge book person too. So I know where she's coming from. But I usually use games to decompress. I like to balance between great stories that take me places and just pure fun with a gun. And not always a gun I really love games like Oblivion and KOTOR although as they progress they do get harder for a non-gamer.

She can also try joining some laid back gaming groups and finding a group of people to game with. Try Xbox Trixie's GamerChiX (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/personality/trixie/gamerchix/default.htm) It's a very laid back group she can just game and chat with the girls. Or we have a PMS Casual division where she can basically do the same thing with pretty much any PC online game like Yahoo Pool or the 360 Arcade games.

Basically, there's a whole bunch of possibilities. Games ARE art now. You just have to play most of the Zelda games to see how how much work is put into the soundtrack/ambient sounds/story/characters/environment. She may just need to find that one perfect game to catch her attention.

There are other genres besides FPS and RPG games. Those 2 genres are my personal favorites, but that isn't the case for everyone. If she wants a good laugh then maybe try some of the old Sierra and LucasArts adventure games like Space Quest or Monkey Island. Gypsyfly has a good idea with the DS. It was Mario and Zelda games that got me into video games in the first place.
