Sony Delays PS3 Until 2007 For PAL Countries (http://kotaku.com/gaming/top/sony-delays-ps3-until-2007-for-pal-countries-198717.php)
PS3s at Launch: North America, 400k. Japan, 100k. (http://kotaku.com/gaming/sony/ps3s-at-launch-north-america-400k-japan-100k-198718.php)
Sony Shelves PS3 Ad Campaign (http://kotaku.com/gaming/sony/sony-shelves-ps3-ad-campaign-198780.php)

It's so nice of Sony to give every single PAL country in the world the middle finger. Still, with only 500,000 console available world-wide at launch, I'm surprised that they didn't postpone the entire launch - we still remember how much tension the Xbox 360 launch created, and they had 1,5 million consoles available at launch - and they had a good and steady supply of new consoles coming after the launch (even though you didn't see them in the stores, they did ship out a lot of unfilled preorders). Sony will not only have to supply Japan and America, but they'll also have to stock up for the PAL launch.
Fun times ahead!

Oh well, I know where I'll be on the 17th of November - playing Gears of War with a huge f**king smile on my face. :p

^ Exactly and as such I remember Sony saying they will make it a worldwide launch and best launch ever.

So far its BS after BS after BS, especially all the quotes from Krazy Ken.

But I thought Sony said all the first consoles made WILL be PAL now I am confused.

Only 400,000 for USA and 100,000 for Japan oh dear I know for a fact Japan is gonna be very angry...

I dont know where to put this at cause I'm blocked in "News & Announcements, anyways: [QUOTE] TOKYO (Reuters) - Sony Corp. said on Wednesday it would delay the European launch of its PlayStation 3 (PS3) game machine to March from November due to inadequate supply of a key component, missing the critical Christmas shopping season.

This is the second time Sony, which competes with Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) and Nintendo Co. Ltd. in the nearly $30 billion video game market, has delayed the sale of its latest blockbuster PlayStation 3. http://finance.myway.com/ht/nw/bus/20060906/hlm_bus-tkv002659.html

I can't say I'm surprised we always seem to have release dates pushed back for whatever reason. I remember the stuggle to get a PS2 from the first batch to arrive in the UK. It's either "we're missing something" or "there just aren't enough consoles made to meet the demand". However a positive from this might be that should anything be wrong with the PS3 then there is time to fix it before release here.

This is huge news, absolutely huge. I feel very sorry for europe at this point, and hope that if you have a PS3 preorder, it was preordered really early, you're looking at maybe 20 a store if lucky.

Yes, this is a big, big deal. Sony is in bad shape regarding the PS3 launch, and they've been trying to hide it for a long time. Remember when they claimed a spring 2006 launch, and the way they held to that for so long? They had to have known all along there was no way to meet that date.

I have trouble believing their claims now are going to be met with the way things have been going. I'll be surprised if they do have 500k for launch and 2 million by year's end.

I'm also waiting to see what the state of their online service is - I have trouble believing that it's going to be as full-featured as they claim, and that it's going to be reliable. Of course, with so many fewer units out there, reliability may not be so much of a problem because they're not going to get that much of a load on their servers. :)

It's going to be a great holiday for the 360 and the Wii. The lower the PS3 shipments, the more that the others will sell. And if the Wii sells out, even more 360 sales, which makes me a happy camper. :)

Oh, and how about this:

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/sony/no-1080p-for-ps3-games-198852.php

No 1080p for PS3 games...

As it stands now, the only game that is running in 1080p, said Fargher, is Gran Turismo HD - a tech demo crafted by Polyphony to showcase what the system is capable of.

This years Christmas once again belongs to the Xbox 360, as well as the Nintendo Wii. I assume Microsoft will bombard Europe with some Xbox 360 bundles (included accessories, games, faceplates, etc), and the Wii will sell because it's so bloody awesome.

Another reason that this delay is a bad thing is the fact that March 2007 could be close to the release of a game from some developer called Bu... uhm, Bungie? Is that is? Yes. Bungie. Don't know if you've heard of this, but it's a anonymous title called Halo 3, due for release sometime in 2007, and will probably sell some 360s from what I've heard ;)

i dont care about europe, sorry. and i also don't care the the 360 now has potential to "win" the holiday season.

all i care about is that when i get my ps3, is to rub it in all the lemming's/fanboy's faces. and the "Wii60" "alliance" will be no more.

i'll be perfectly happy with my ps3, wii, and 360 during the christmas, or early 07 year.

There's a lot of speculation whether it is worth launching with only a half mill on the market, on one hand it dramatically cuts the amount they'll be loosing from production with scarsity, at least initially until they can work out production kinks and lower costs, but on the other hand it also puts a lot of ill will in the mind of the consumers, and developers. Remember the launch titles now have a lot less houses to get to than they though they'd get, so they probably aren't too happy either. The bean counters probably figure they can't afford to miss the season, and in a lot of ways they're right - they need to get out to market, and can't afford to slip the launch back. If gears of war turns out to be a killer game they need a few good looking titles to keep interest in the PS3 market, even if there aren't too many hardware units out there. It feels like damage control a bit at this point, but I think its entirely necessary.
Remember its the long term we're looking at here.

I am hearing from the Herald Tribune the write is stating that there are going to be shortages due to the components of blu-ray. According to him Mr. Kutaragi also made it clear that Sony will not make its initial 4 million units by the end of 2006 target. istead, he commented, the number of units shipped in 2006 is likely to fall to 2 million. He also claims that US will see 400,000 Units and Japan will only see 100,000 units On thier November Launches.

Not sure if anyone read this or not but you probably did..

Launch date delayed in Europe & other countries

According to GameSpot:

Sony announced that the PS3 console launch is pushed back to March 2007 in Europe; blue laser diode issues cited for delay as confusion surrounds US and Japan launch.

Also, Only 100,000 PS3s will be in Japanese stores when the platform goes on sale there on November 11. North America will only get 400,000 units for its PS3 launch on November 17. The combined figure of 500,000 is one quarter of the 2 million units Sony predicted would be available at launch worldwide.

Sony said alot of things. They even claimed the PS3 would be a PC killer. Any company that makes outlandish claims that its system will replace the device that is used to make the games is rediculous. They are just trying to make thier fanatic fanbase go crazy for a system that although has eye candy brings nothing new to the table, with the exception of alot of questions that need to be answered.

I'm going to definitely get a PS3 as I've been a big Playstation fan since the original one in 1995 (wow, it's been that long!?), but I'm not going to get it on launch day as much as I want to. I did the same for the 360 (picked it up in June of '06 instead of at launch). At least around the summertime games slow down to a trickle so it makes it a lot easier to play "catch-up" and to be able to beat all the other crap that I have, lol.
