View Full Version : Update 9-25! New Vbulletin Version & New Style!
Vbulletin 3.6 has been released, and the upgrade to the new version is now complete. Thank you all for your patience. It also seemed like a good time to introduce a solution to one of the most common complaints about the forums, the style!
A return to the dark style was most favored among members, so thats where we ran. Vinx and I have created this custom style just for the PMS forums. Its a fluid width, that means it'll stretch to fill the width of your screen instead of being constrained to a small strip in the middle. If there are any blaring errors (images with white instead of transparent backgrounds) please let me know so we can get them fixed. You all may want to change your sigs in the event they have trouble as well. The header will change depending on what subforum you are in, if its a H2O subforum it will be a H2O header, a PMS subforum, a PMS header (look at the recruitment sections to see what I mean). General / combined forums feature, you guessed it!

I was bummed this morning when I couldn't log in, but it was worth the wait. I loved the old forums dark green style, but I suppose I could get used to purple. Btw, the site banner is awesome. :)

Meh. I liked the old white one better. Not to mention my awesome signature looks better there.
I'll just use it and see my sig in all it's true glory.
Unfortunately the banner style has to be set (if different) to every single individual forum, in other words its going to take a good bit of time before the correct banner is put in place everywhere :-/ Don't know why it won't just inherit it for the child forums, but apparently it doesn't.

Back in black. I like it. The quick reply window is a little hard to read with the blue buttons to change it to bold, italics, underline, etc, but other than that I love it! It also takes a little bit longer to load things, but I guess that's the sacrifice. :p
It has to cache all the images again on your local machine, the view speed should increase for your, its pretty much at the same speed for me now.

Also, I like how you included the Chinese character for "water" in the banner. (It's pronounced "mi-zu" in Japanese - I'm not sure about Chinese though, since there are like 9 or more different variations of the Chinese language.) If you wanted to, you could put the Chinese character for "woman" (pronounced "oon-na" in Japanese) as well instead of the Greek/Roman symbol, but that's not as easily recognized since most people don't know what the Chinese symbol for "woman" means or even looks like. (I'm sure most people don't know what the Chinese symbol is for "water" either). Another option could be to have both Greek/Roman symbols instead of one and not the other.
I would type the symbols here, but I don't think this forum supports them as text unless it's made as an image.

Well being the stickler for light background I'm using the old one, I just use external CSS to change the gradients XD
At anyrate great work on the layout, looks great. Here is a note though: On the old layout for the "Tech Talk" section and the ones like it, excluding the general section, where it displays all the 'forums' within the section it takes on the new layout.
Which is really disconcerting for me as I'm making half of it use the gradients meant for the old one ^_^
Just thought I would let you know. I'll take a screen shot if you want.
EDIT: I'll send this in a PM aswell.
Yea I think I know what you mean, certain forums we had defined a certain style and previously had been overriding the user's choice for those sections. I thought I switched them all back to allow the user's choice to rule, however its possible I missed some. Can you just PM me a list of the ones you're noticing are bieng forced to the new style?

I got the profiles to work, but you have to right click and have them open in a new tab/window. Otherwise you click on them and nothing happens.

Its an incredibly light pink, looks white to me (mostly cause of my LCD), putting it at pure white is a little too bright in contrast. I will look into the search issue dex, I'm not sure why its doing that actually, it seems to work sporadically here ( and works on my test board perfectly fine).

yeah it was working last night after I posted about it, but it's gone back to not working again.

Ok ladies, your section should have the correct header now for all the forums / subforums. I cannot verify them as it won't let me view them (The forum settings and styles can be changed from the back end, but when it comes to the forums themselves, i haven't got a clue how many 'wow Rip smells funny' threads you all made ;) Although after this post I'm suspecting a few will pop up somewhere :-| Anyway, since I can't make sure the settings are correct, if you can just check to make sure your sections have the proper header that'd be great. Give me a yell if any are missed. Thanks.
Guys from what I can see our section also is set up properly, if i missed anything there as well give me a yell. I did mention the H2O sections will be a bit deeper in the future so i'm just talking about what is up now, not late (when i'll have to assign the styles manually again )

However it has to be the size it is up there, which makes the left info bar have to expand a bit larger to the right to accomodate it, which, well.. didn't look so great, It didn't look so bad either, but I can see where it might be a problem, and I'm just the code monkey that made the mod, how the site looks or changes in look is soooooooo not my call :)
Instead I am playing with some XML scripting and seeing if I cant just make a custom one for us all to use up there instead that matches the theme perfecetly.. but that will take time.

Hehe, um if you list two gamertags the image screws up, which most of you probably already know.
However, I added a section to your profile for "Additional Gamertags" right under "Xbox Live Gamertags", so you should be able to put any second gamertag you want there and put the main one in the Xbox Live Gamertag field so it'll show. So people will see that second tag when they click to look at your profile. That's all I can think of right now to fix that little problem, until we can maybe add another section under "Posts" or the Gamercard for "Additional Blogs"
I'll go through the members list and try to fix anyone with a messed up card.

well more gamercard blocks can be addded to match those extra fields youve added, since if the field is left empty on people like me, with one tag, it simply wont show more, just like people with no gamer tag. Those that have two or more, will just get extra cards under their first one.

whenever the site runs through their updates it should automatically update yours r33, unfortunately that is something based on their capabilities and sadly not ours.
Update: For those of you who are decidedly against the gamercards, fear not. I have put up a style that is just like before we added the gamercards, just go into your user CP and under user options change the style (very bottom) to Precise Imbroglio 2. Sadly it will not switch banners when you go into an H2O or PMS section,

UPDATE:
new update now, check out your profiles everyone :) Not only will your gamercard show up there, but they ALL will.
Since Gypsyfly added 2 more gamercard tag field, which ever one is listed first, aka your 'primary' one, will show up under your avatar on forum threads. Then in your profile, ALL 3 will show up there in a row, or 2, or 1.. however many you have.
Also in your profile now is an Xfire block as well, if you go define an xfire tag in your profile settings. This one, in the intersest of a clutter free enviroment, will be left displaying ONLY in your profile.
I know, my profile looks sexy now, you don't have to tell me :p
And thank sargonas again for being the code monkey so I didn't have to figure much of anything out to get it implemented (other than the ID fields).

Are the additiional GT's gonna be shown at the side of a persons post or are they only gonna be visible by going to someones profile? (Im guessing not because it will just look messy or whatnot) But if so lemme know.

Also peoples, if you do not have an xfire and whatnot, please make sure to leave the fields blank, if they are blank they will not display anything, if you put something in then they'll display an error image. Thanks.

A bug has been discovered in vBulletin 3.6.1 that may cause data loss when the automatic thread redirect deletion system is used.
If you use this system, you should immediately download and install the patch that is now available from vBulletin.com to prevent any data loss.
vBulletin 3.6.2 will be released in the coming days and will contain a fix for this issue and a number of other bugs found in 3.6.1.
Update: October 4th 2006 vBulletin 3.6.2 has now been released and contains the fix for this issue and several others.
