first thing you need to do when you get it back is to check to see if its still backwards compatible.. when i had my first one sent it in still was backwards. had to send second one in now mine isnt backwards compatible :(

also, it wasn't so much my ps3 overheating cause of its internal heat. Remember.
I have a PS3, PS2, Computer, Two Monitors, Lamp, and Central Heating all going at the same time, it a room that's roughly 9ft x 12ft.. that's a lot of heat generated in a little room. i don't think it being horizontal would have made a significant difference.

ahh, horizontal ftw. And I thought that PS3 was a 160GB, not a 120GB. Doesn't matter, though, since you can get a pretty nice sized HD without breaking your bank wide open.

So far, my PS3 has lasted longer than two of my old 360's, six months! Only once did I have problems, and my friend introduced me to the PS3's recovery system :D

I haven't had any problems with my PS3 that involved mailing in the console - but when my Xbox 360 fizzes out (which it has about 5 times since having my PS3... giving my PS3 a leg up with a 0:5 ratio of requiring mechanical service since PS3's release), it costs me $0 to ship my Xbox 360 to Microsoft.

I guess it's because the extended 3 year warranty for the RRoD....?

my ps3's warranty expired in December 2008.
and it actually cost me $190.97..

Well, they give you a free one year warranty, provided that you KEEP YOUR RECEIPT!!! :p Once that's over, though, you gotta cough up the money. And let's not forget that the 3 year warranty (at least, this is what customer service told me) is only for RRoD. Once that original year is gone, then you're SOL unless you wanna pay them to fix it. So if it fails due to anything else (like my third one failed cuz of a broken disc tray), that 3 year warranty won't mean a damn thing. Luckily for me, though, when my warranty did expire, it was only a few days before it failed :p so I still sent it in free :D

Ahh I see, so it does have to do with warranty deadlines! Hehe.

My PS3 is way past its deadline already that I don't even know when it passed... I just know I didn't get any extended warranty or the additional warranty from Best Buy after I stood in line and bought one of the first releases of it. I just wanted to play!! LOL.

I don't even know where my receipt is... I gotta start filing those damn things just in case!

omg.. lol I'm not saying it's going to happen the first time. But eventually it will fail. No PS3 is YLOD-Proof, just like no Xbox is RROD-Proof. Leaving your consoles on 12+ Hours can damage the hardware which can later result in Hardware failure. I used to leave my PS3 on 24/7 pretty much, and remember greep, I had my PS3 for over a year till it finally died. If you keep leaving it on the way you do it'll eventually have negative effects on the hardware.

And no, I didn't really lose anything too valuable.. I few game saves, a couple photos. All my DLC I can re-download, and all my Game Data I'll have to DL again, it's going to be time-consuming.. Day 1 of my ps3's return is going to be Downloading all my lost DLC and Game Data
