View Full Version : HALO: Combat Evolved - Evolved the Xbox?

Personally imo I have to say not only is HALO 1 the BEST FPS I have ever played its probably the only game that has brought out the biggest excitement from nearly all Xbox gamers.

Halo 2 well was very poor in a lot of people's eyes for single player especially in mine but with Halo 3 being the last in the trilogy its still bringing that excitement out bigger than ANY other game.

So can we say that Halo: Combat Evolved actually Evolved the Xbox? Yes it did, Halo 1 is still played today and the future of now the Xbox in general has been fixed more firmly with the Halo franchise.

Many might agree that HALO 1 has laid the foundation for Microsoft in the Xboxs' future, the future of gaming.

Yes, as far as FPSes go it is definitely a pioneer and up there on the best of all time lists. Note I say pioneer because it started the method of looking and aiming with the two thumbsticks, something not done until it came out.

Halo did rule, but unfortunatly it was the only game I really enjoyed on the Xbox. That said, it did prove that consoles can play FPS's just as well as PC's, OK theirs no mods, but cheating has to be harder too(online anyway).

The twin thumbstick was a taste sensation, almost like playing with a keyboard and mouse!

Well you did have mods via action replay as there are for Halo 2 anyways.

Cheating online for Halo 2 has been a big problem but its not that bad lately.

But Halo 1 is still the best for me of all time.

well. halo changed fps gaming as we know it. for one, halo was the only game ever, that made me buy a system, just for that game. no other game has done that for me.

halo is for sure one of the best games every. no joke either.

No doubt about it. Halo and Halo 2 made the Xbox a success. Without Halo, the Xbox brand wouldn't be where it is at today. Like Skywalker, there has only been one game that has ever made me buy a system. For me it was Halo 2.

Funnily enough, I never owned Halo 1. I bought the Xbox a year after it came out and no one I knew had heard of Halo until some kid at school was talking about Warthog jumping, and I'm "WTF is that?" So I see it at Blockbuster and it's been history since.

Halo was the reason I bought an Xbox.

Halo 2 was the reason I bought Xbox Live.

Wonder what Halo 3 is going to make me buy? ;)

Man I just played Halo with a buddy today, and that **** is unreal! I haven't had so much fun, or that much excitement in Halo 2 ever. It's so much more intense because you run faster, it's a lot faster paced and just amazing.


There's a difference between an evolution and a revolution, Halo was a revolution and Halo 2 was just an evolution of everything else.

Halo made me buy an Xbox

Halo 2 not only made me buy XBL, but also a DSL internet connection

Halo 3, which isn't even out yet kinda made me buy my 360 :p

I still can't get into any other game like I've gotten into Halo, no matter how hard I try.

Same here as for many, halo 1 was the game that got me into gaming. I played combat evolved on pc, and i would never have bought a xbox, if it had not been for the h2 release.

Soo..halo 1 was my big entrance to the world of gaming..ahh how sweet was it not when we camped in the bases on CTF Ice Fields. The fuel rods on blood gulch, the magnums on derelict, and the none existance of verbal harrassment. We all focused so hard on the game, we WERE the game. Ahh be still my beating heart..

Cant wait for h3 though.

Imo Halo 1 is best played on the Xbox/Xbox 360 not PC, infact a lot of PC gamers hated HALO 1 on the PC.

And alot of us loved it on PC, we were a whole large european community, some of i still chat with to this day. You cant argue with that. I was in one of the largest european PC halo 1 clans at the time and we had clan matches daily:)
I still play h1 on my xbox, and itīs still fun, although i miss the maps that never was made for the console.
